  1. depends on the model, some have 2 batteries, some have a square battery and the older ones have a round battery. change mine myself, got original batteries from the UK, opened the unit, change takes about 10min if you have no clus what you ae doing. recalebrate and away you go. DIY cost R120.00 AW cost +-R1500.00 depends on whether they send just your SRM back or a whole lot as the courier costs will differ. I have changed both head unit and crank batteries. My units are all the older SRM V wired units.
  2. Sounds like your levels are not set properly... 1 hour at threshold = 100 tss points 30min = 50 points giving you 40 points from your warm up an cool down all in a hour and a bit...... So your FTP may be 300w but you have it set at 280w, then you actually ride at 300w for the 3x10min intervals, thus accumulating way more points than you actually are earning... 900 to 950 per week is a lot, how many hours riding is that?
  3. Its not about the bike.....
  4. It show the power of the mind, bigger legs = faster cycling
  5. SV, the more people in the gym getting bigger legs, the less we have to worry about out on the road....
  6. SV as you well know when looking for the best advise "thehub" is the place to go to...
  7. Unless you have a serious strength issue, doinbg squats will do very very little for your cycling. All you get is bigger muscles = more weight to carry up the hills and maybe you will look good on the beach. If you are a track sprinter or 500m 1000m timetrial rider, then doing leg work helps, for road riding you will get better results by cycling an extra 30 min per day. If you can squat down till your knees are at 90 deg, then you have enough strenght to cycle. Its not the leg strength that is holding you back, its fitness and adaptation.
  8. Well I'm sick and tired - does that count???
  9. Thats our church, got married there and my son was christened there too!! Swissvan and Mrs SV were in our rent a crowd !!!

  11. Wits University med school. Once you know what it is what are you going to do with the info?? There are many thresholds, and you can do a simple test yourself and find a threshold.
  12. Cos track cycling is just soooooo much better!!!!!!
  13. The garments that fit "you" are the best to go for. I have tried, LineBreak, Skins, 2XU and a few others. for me Skins fit the best. as in all cycling things what works for one does not necessarily work you you. try them all on and buy the ones that fit. As in all cycling purchases we are very happy to buy wheels for R20k, shoes for R3k but not compression pants for R1k..., its all about the visibility, your friends can see the R20k wheels and it impresses them, but not your compression pants....they just look wierd...
  14. A virus gives you the flu, not cold weather. Poor Eskimos woulkd constantly be sick....
  15. for IM my recommendation is always do what ever will preserve the legs for the run.....
  16. SV what type of question is " is shorter better" obviously longer is always better... Having said that I have changed from 200mm on my road bike to 180mm. no difference in power output at all. seems like these days shorter is the new trend, read on british TT forums, lots of guys going for 160mm cranks, for exactly the reason you quote, better hip to torso angle and you can get lower. dont know if an IM athlete wants to ride radically low for 180km....
  17. youtube foam rollers and see them in action, easier than me explaining.

  22. http://www.bikebiz.com/news/read/paul-lew-gives-masterclass-in-carbon-wheel-dynamics/016163 http://road.cc/content/news/114442-paul-lew-talks-wheel-dynamics read these articles re: flex, stiffness, compliance of wheels. The bigger you are the more spokes you should have, the added weight and aero drag of extra spokes is so small you will never know, but the added stiffness will be very aparent. These low spoke counts are a marketing effort to sell wheels.
  23. there are many areas where energy has been used for one purpose then discarded. For instance at the Pizza shop there is a fire to cook the Pizza and a whole lot of heat is going up the chimeny. if you install a copper pipe coil inside the chimeny = free heat for the geyser. Big manufacturing companies that have smoke stacks can be used to drive a wind type turbine to generate power The basic idea is to use the electricty for its main purpose, ie warming water, but then to use the excess heat or water for something else. Boil the potatoes then use that hot water in the dishwasher to do the initial rinse.
  24. There is a load cell measuring the pressure / tension in the chain. Definetly Not 2 powermeters in the crank... something similar to Polars WIND power thingie....hence the software showing pedal stroke analysis very similar to polar.
  25. 1.95m tall on a size 58cm .......try something bigger I am 1.91 on a size 60cm with 180mm cranks
