…and if you have decent bib shorts that are tight over the shoulders, you can insert a piece of fabric say 8cm long into the left strap and right strap, since the shorts-part will likely still fit you - I did this withFOURpairs of bibs, cost me R50 per pair at local seamstress = bargain.

    awesome idea thanks!

Just rock a quick drying type t-shirt from Mr Price or the like if you are on a MTB ... recon the roadies may frown on this if you are on a roadie bike, but #%^#$ them if they do.

I carry most of my spares in my back pocket but maybe (seeing that it will be a while before I can ride long enough to use 2 bottles) I should go that route and get a tool bottle for the spares.

  3. I stopped cycling give or take 2/3years ago and since then I have put on quite a lot of weight. I was a big guy even when I was cycling fit. Did w2w weighing just shy of 130kg. I want to get back into the swing of things, watching the epic just awakens something in loins.

Where can I find cycling clothes for the bigger guy with the afrikaner boep, until its under control again?

  4. Mine does the same, its my seatpost, if i take it out and clean then its fine for a couple of rides untill dust gets in there as well.

I went through a whole exercise where i replaced all pivot bearings and even got a very expensive bottom bracket with o-rings to eliminate noise and in the end it was my seatpost.

  5. I don't know the store or the owners, but as a general rule this attitude sucks.

Why would you not FIRST take it up with the manager?

Maybe there was an issue with the staff that the manager/owner was not aware of. You could be the one that saves the shop and other customers from a similar experience.

What if the manager/owner is not on social media?

    Why first flame?

Is this the new way of doing things? Lets not try and fix the problem just rather burn the house down. Fear of confrontation? If everyone is civil and you have a reasoned discussion with the manager/owner where will the be a possibility of a confrontation?

I feel people these days fear confrontation because of this keyboard warrior mentality and the fact that it is so easy to get agro behind a keyboard that they think it is the same face to face. Damn in most cases a business owner/manager is only too happy get get feedback, especially face to face.

But maybe I am just oldschool.

You have to change as the world around you change...ask blockbuster or any mr video shop owner.

  6. I know everyone is hardegat and "I have a right to be there" but this is why i dont use a tar road unless there is a massive yellow lane. I love my life and family too much and dont want to put them through a public trial of an idiot that thought he was far enough away from me.

  7. I also discovered how easy it actually is to open a locked fiberglass canopy. I attached hooks to the bottom of my bakkie bed and now even when the canopy is locked i still hook a chain to my bike when it is in the back of the bakkie.

It does help that my bike is black and my canopy windows tinted...

  8. I've been a total of 2 times in that shop and i can say from all the shops i've been to in the helderbger/stlb area i did not feel at home. I walked in with some friends, im build more like a prop than a cyclist and my friends were assisted and i weren't even asked if i needed anything.

As for the person coming on social media to complain, instead of asking for the manager, as suggested earlier. Some people don't like face to face confrontation. We are living in an era of online social platforms. Why go and complain to manager who might laugh it off with his buddies in the shop instead of going online and complain.

First off you will hurt the brand way more if "10million" people saw it online instead of just bringing it to the manager's attention. If i saw bad rep for stlb spez i would rather drive 20kms further and go to the helderberg store, same product and a better chance of getting better service. Secondly the chances of something actually being done is way greater because now they are in the public's spotlight. Thirdly the "manager" in a store is a lot of the times a glorified baby sitter. (dont know if this is the case here) When you complain on social media it would, as apparently it is in this case, be brought to the owners attention because some one is going to see the post and call them up and say buddy your rep is in jeopardy. This also gives the store an opportunity to come up with an excuse saying, my staff was sick, half is at the w2w or what ever the reason was for the bad service and rectify and make that customer happy. Free publicity...

Yes nobody likes keyboard warriors but would you rather not know that there is a problem in your store then not?

  9. Anybody else feels the preparation is just not going this year? Just cant seem to get the engine properly started. Done some Core/Strength work and a few really hard 60odd kilos rides. Thats it.

    Mentally just not there

    Going to be a suffersfest.

Yeah me too, weight is not where it supposed to be and since may i have not a 50+ km ride...i am seriously contemplating not pitching up anymore.

  10. To important matters: when/how does the bike raffle happen??? I’m probably so slow it happens the day before I get in

I've only made it once, but i was just in time to see them call the winner

  11. No K2C thread is complete without this little rant...

    However

    1 jeeptrack.

    3000 cyclists

Physics 101 tells us no one other than the first few riders are riding up there without being blocked.

It's got nothing to do with skills or fitness - just simple physics

Exactly this. And what sours my moer is some D**S coming from behind shouting at us fat folk or a poor child confused with the 3000 cyclist. I've seen it every year that i have done this event. Going on 5/6 this year where these idiots coming from behind shouting about making way between 200 cyclists walking ruining someones day by causing them to fall.

If you want to race get a seeding and start in A. If you are not in A expect to walk and as one of the previous posts, make the best of it and enjoy it.
