  1. 'cos the complainants got their bikes back and reporting this to the police and hoping it ever got to court (and then successfully prosecuted) was going to be a massive amount of trouble for **** all chance of success...
  2. If you want a cheap shipping agent, the I presume your bike is cheap(ish)? In that case, leave your bike at home. It can cost a couple of grand to ship out, then ship back. I had the same problem moving to the UK, so I put my bikes in the container and ordered a fixie here for a couple of grand. Much cheaper and a lot less hassle.
  3. So what? How many cyclists have you seen wearing TdF clothing?
  4. Ooops! Good on you for having done so...
  5. No need to be a tjop. If you want to moan about cc go to the official cc griping thread. If you want to provide some useful information on a race that is held for a good cause, then do so here...
  6. A good race. It's flat, so expect it to be fast. The hard bit is keeping with the bunch at the two climbs: one just before the turnaround and the other at the turnaround point. So kill yourself to stay in there. The long drags back are ok, but gutter winds can make it difficult. And don't get hung up on the cc thing. They just do entries and timing. The charity is a good cause.
  7. Geez. I thought it was a heart wrenching story about how some previously advantaged individual overcame adversity...
  8. +1 that.
  9. Not important. Bikes are so light now the pros have to weight them to meet UCI regulations. So they have a lot of leeway there.
  10. Just been reading through this thread (BAIE vertraag). The clips referred to are the old cages. In the good old days they were called toe-clips. We no longer have these with cleats - those funny connect-y things under your shoes. So the new pedals ARE clipless.
  11. Sorry - forgot to add: The reason they changed their name was because they were a "franchisee" for WT - a Dutch company, I think. They then went independent and had to change their name. Gave them more freedom to source their technology and systems elsewhere. So nothing sinister there. Move along now, nothing to see...
  12. That's because they heard the criticism and sorted themselves out. They now provide a fantastic service, while CC has gone down the drain. Oh - wait! They were already down the drain. The only reason they looked good was because WT was even worse at that stage!
  13. +1 that when I have needed them. The guys in the service department are excellent.
  14. I use my Edge 800 ;-) I bought an iPod running pouch (the type that you see runners with strapped to their upper arms) and slip it into that when I run. Works perfectly. The only thing it can't do is count the number of paces I take (I don't know what the technical term is - the runners' equivalent of cadence).
  15. And tandems! Try stopping one of those ****ers with two big men going downhill in the rain. Tandems have been using disk brakes for years, but the mainstream acceptance in singles will mean more options and better road-specific technology. Can't wait.
  16. Let's hope the NPA doesn't stuff this up like all the other cases they have been recently...
  17. Nope it's a (different) liquid or else a really nasty solid chemical. Not the same stuff.
  18. I suppose you can also eschew clipless pedals for platform, gears for single speed, freewheel hubs for fixed, disc brakes for cantilever... How far can this "I don't want to be in the in crowd" mania go?
  19. I find baggies uncomfortable. Lycra all the way!
  20. We have a guy riding with one of these. Nice unit, visible and rechargeable. The laser lines are a gimmick. They are thin (not like the photos) and on a lightly lit road surface only visible from a couple of meters, mainly because of the angle they are viewed from. Note that in the photo they are viewed from higher up than as a driver would see them. I'm also not a photographer, but it looks like the picture is overexposed to make the lights look brighter?
  21. Depends what for. I have two. One for my bicycles and one for my motor vehicles. The two torque ranges do no overlap in the usable ranges or each. Bike torques are much lighter (4-12Nm typically). Cars start at around 20Nm... Sorry: forgot to say my bicycle one is BBB.
  22. I was taught by Ali Mclean how to put it on. She told me "Andrew does it like this!" with all the effects! Geez, I laughed!
  23. I have also found the brand is quite important. I have used Assos and FIT - Assos is frikkin' expensive, but much better. It seems to have more anti-bacterial/disinfectant properties than FIT.
  24. Ha! This happened to me at the Telkom some years back! The comments were brilliant!
  25. I don't use it every morning, but for long weekend rides and races it's a must. I always use it one stage races and can say it (literally) saved my butt on the Epic...
