  1. Bad luck Cervelo but well done for even getting to the start. I know it takes a lot of dedication.
  2. Yup will be there, I have been training in the gym on the stationery bikes so I haven't lost much fitness. In fact I think in a way the gym is better, a controlled environment and you ride at a more constant effort so it actually works quite well, and of course it's safer. Just damm boring, try doing 2 hours on a bike in the gym and at 4-5am there is not even any talent to check out Jason has already been issuing challenges via p.m. IanJ2007-03-30 00:52:18
  3. You always ride haaaaaaaaard! Bit too soon for me, back on the bike tomorrow for the first time since my op. Can't wait, just one more sleep.
  4. I agree with Sias, I think the figure is about 60% carbs for a sportsman. I find that what works best for weight loss is to eat the carbs in the morning and lunchtime and mainly salads and some lean protein at night.
  5. Michelle don't listen to them !!! We need some non Cannondale allies in TCS.
  6. I can't come still only to ride a stationary bike for a few weeks. Will you save some breakfast for a few weeks time?
  7. I agree, and the whole purpose of having a live news feed is that you provide live news. Not news that is 3-4 days old. How hard can it be to put up the results on a daily basis.
  8. Cruxie Tell the TCS boys to keep it up, we are with them all the way. See you at the weekend.
  9. Cyclelab have done 2-3 wheels for me and I have been very happy with them.
  10. steynja I love telling the story of my third 94.7 race (the first one on a road bike instead of the old MTB). Not knowing much about bikes I went along to Cash Crusaders and bought an old Avalanche with down tube shifters etc for the huge amount of R695.00. I have a good friend whose business partner had lots of money and wasn't afraid to spend it on bikes. That year he had spent over R100k on new bikes and upgrading components etc. Needless to say I wipped his Ass by more than 15 minutes on my R695 Avalanche and never let him forget it. It's not about the bike, you can have the best bike in the world but if you don't train it is useless. So good luck for the Argus, I will be out there supporting you guys at the side of the road.

    Idea

I think you need to cater for lots of spectators, plenty Vaalies will have arrived by Friday so we will be out in force to support our teams .
  12. Hi BigBen The most likely cause is a stretched chain which you can only check with a measuring tool or measuring a certain number of links (can't remember the formula right now). If the chain is stretched it could well have caused the cluster to wear so you would probably need to replace both.

    Idea

Was thinking of that, can someone maybe post a map of how to find it for us Northerners and some tips on where to get the best view etc.
  14. Dirt Rider, our thoughts are with you and your family. If there is anything we can do please let us know. Ian
  15. Too butch to be a real Roadie .
  16. And that you are a closet Roadie .
  17. wolverine you might be able to find someone who needs one of your bikes through your local bike shop. Last year Cyclelab club donated toys to a centre in magaliesburg. There was an 18 year old guy there who really wanted to start cycling but didn't have a bike. I donated a bike, shoes and a helmet to him (reminds me I must follow up and see how he is doing).
  18. Windbreaker That is the plan but i think we first need to define all the role players and then establish who can do what. For instance we have potential sponsors such as Pick and Pay and then companies like Axiz who already have a campaign running where they swap bikes for trees in the rural areas (to me this is a brilliant concept). Then we have organisations like the Guild of Motoring Journalists and Think Bike who want to look at joint education campaigns etc. wolverine the problem with random donations of bikes is that is does not create much coverage, what is needed is a concerted effort by all involved to supply bicycles to the kids, train a bike mechanic for the area (job creation) and for government to create a safe environment for the kids to use the bicycles. The Bicycle Enpowerment Network (BEN) is doing this but I think mostly in the Cape. The most important thing is that for whatever reason some positive moves are being made.
  19. There is alot happening behind the scenes and in Government, unfortunately I was unable to attend the conference due to work pressure but Gordon from the Safe Passing Campaign is exhibiting there. There is a ride at 11am today in which several ministers are supposed to be taking part. After the Argus I want to start putting together a formal campaign to bring all the role players together, I built up lots of contacts when we did the protest ride so now we need to coordinate things. I think the biggest push will come from the needs of the commuting cyclist and we will need to get involved in these campaigns even though their needs are slightly different to ours (as sporting cyclists).

    Assault!

Think Bike were the one's that marshalled our protest ride and supported us so well !!! They were very keen on looking at joint safety projects with us, who knows where that will go now.
  21. Hey Wheelbarrow Don't worry about BigH, he moans about everything. Actually I think he is just jealous because he will be stuck in Lagos and won't be able to take part in the Best Race in the Country. Don't worry the rest of us will be there.
  22. I think there is some kind of investigation still under way, I know he is still suspended as we had to deal with an acting chief to organise the protest ride.
  23. Really glad Barend is ok, as others have said, bikes can be replaced, lives cannot. Anyone know what happened, what kind of road was it and was he just hit straight from behind? Cruxie, please tell Barend if he wants to take it to the press I now have a very good and sympathetic reporter at Beeld.
