  1. Good job mate!
  2. Like many others I used an old road bike on my indoor for those times I needed it, COVID, injury recovery etc. Had a mate that really needed a bike and so I let it go Decided to build a 'minimalist' dedicated Indoor Trainer Bike (ja ja because I can 😜 ) .... So what's really needed, no brakes, 1* so only a right shifter and rear derailleur, a back wheel that works, a front wheel that just holds the bike up ... Any old frame Got hold of a KHS alu Flite 700 ca 2006 I guess, no hanger, got the closest possible from my trusty mate @GrahamW (jeez the knowledge and bits that oke has ðŸ˜Ū ) and then on his recommendation 'grinded' away at it till it sort of fitted Gears - 1*8 53*11-32 ... 9sp DA derailleur, did have to do the 'B screw backwards' hack though Wheels Rear - damaged on the brake surface, not safe on road but on a brakeless indoor bike 👍 Front - 24 hole tubby rim to 32 hole funky anodised hub, had a tubby tyre hanging about ... Quick build just good enough to hold the front up! It's up and running no issues .... The chain stays on the front sans FD or guide so that's a bonus Dumb trainer, MyWhoosh free 😎 Anybody else use something dedicated on trainer that could not be ridden outside at all or at least not safely?
  3. I send you a message bru 👍
  4. Yip, that's exactly what I did 👍
  5. No idea why you wheel builder chaps say it takes time and concentration to build a wheel 😜 - I mean I slapped together a wheel in under half an hour this morning 😎 OK now that you have stopped laughing, as some of you know I'm well aware of the intricacies of wheel building and that a typical wheel build for me is at least a day or 2 ... and that's an easy one 😕 However I'm busy putting together an absolute minimalist indoor trainer bike, as always looked around my garage to see what I got. Idea is no brakes, 1x ... certainly won't be able to do outside duty Back wheel I have a damaged deep section, brake surface has been repaired but not safe ... that'll do Front ..... ha! I have a tubby deep section rim (24 hole) and one of those, what was cool at the time, purple anodised hub (32 hole) and an assortment of spokes and nipples Since it only has to hold the bike (and my body) up I didn't have to fuss to much with how well it was built, is it true, is it round etc. P.S I can post pics of the IDT bike if anyone is interested 😎
  6. Looking for just a tapered steerer tube out of a fork .... Needs to be about 180mm or longer if possible So that no good scored stantion fork upper you have lying around .... Yes that would be perfect! I have an idea but I need that part to try something out, I do know someone who can press it out for me 😎
  7. I'm enjoying the 'new' transcribe voice notes feature on Whatsapp
  8. Cabin fever getting the better of me today 😏 - enough rain already OK so I didn't feel any difference with the round ring versus the Rotor one I had on but it was really short. Wasn't able to try a shorter crank, (wrong/different) BCD - will certainly still do my best to have a go though
  9. I go through the same but add ... 3. Stripping bikes and having them painted despite there being nothing wrong with the current design or aesthetics
  10. Skud maar net my kop ... I knocked this together out of some pallet wood I had lying around during the 'scamdemic' I have since varnished it and it's been used here and there when I've been 'injured'
  11. Weather is pretty inclement on the Highveld.... My Dad's mate Andre would have said "skud jou kop bietjie lyk my hy raas!" Not cold so that helps 😎 and no I didn't go out in the rain ðŸĪŠ
  12. At the time the deal 'went down' it was all good .... pretty sure I did give a review (good off course). Not sure if you can/could change the review after 2 weeks though As you say reviews and if you're really a stickler then the 'Rouxtjie rule' at the very least! #IYKYK
  13. I had the experience some years ago where I sold a damn decent bike to someone that 'wanted it for his wife' but they were on a tight budget .... Would be a great upgrade for her etc. Thinking I was doing something good I let it go for substantially less, only for it to pop up for sale about 2 weeks later for more than I was asking for it. No changes whatsoever! Anyway I've long gone made peace with it .... However I certainly would not do it again! Mostly just sell amongst mates and acquaintances now
  14. Just checking with the original owner about the name and how it came about, will revert
  15. I do understand that there are some bike shops that really are not let's just say up to a 'normal standard' of service, no question about that. In fact some way worse than others! As long as we understand that, at least to my personal experience, we are often ourselves not above reproach .... those that feel they are, I am impressed!
  16. I often wonder how we expect perfection from the cycling shops, how many of us can say that in our own industry/job that we make absolutely no mistakes/slip ups of any kind? Must be cool to be that good at what you do! #timerramblings
  17. 'You're not made of sugar' as the Dutch would say 😜
  18. A well known cycle store in the main street of Alberton since like forever .... in fact when I started in '89 they were the go to store in our 'hood Until last year they still provided many riders with spares and occasional service .... Amina the owner was a goldmine of info and a damn super person as well As per the website it was sold though and the store closed down by the new owners after only a few months, a real pity to us 'timers
  19. When you've got nowhere left to turn, turn on the gas!
  20. Of all the many many events I've done over the years this is the one I'm really sorry I only did twice (90/91 3:33/3:34) .... Both times memorable weekends away, first time on my own by car and the second in a Microbus with family Initially because from 91 decided to focus on another discipline for an eventual green number (no not Comrades ðŸĪŠ) and later simply from a cost point of view Anyway just the ramblings of a 'timer as our neighbours sons like to refer to me as
  21. Daniyal Matthews should be very proud not only of being the SA champ but of having outsmarted and outridden those who should have known better! Well done
  22. Thank you! I'll certainly take note of that
  23. Now you have me thinking ðŸĪ” As I'm making changes to my TT bike anyway albeit from oval to round but I could also go to shorter cranks Man I love tinkering with bikes ðŸĪŠ
  24. That has also been my experience .... Since I don't do those kind of climbs anymore though ... I feel no difference either way for my 'normal' riding Have ridden oval 'rotor' 2* on my TT bike for many years, interesting I'll see if there's a difference I guess as I'm busy fitting a 1* round ring at the moment
