  1. Excellent, looking forward to the pics!
  2. Just do it mate, a gravel bike deserves drops!
  3. Real fixie riders don't need brakes ðŸĪŠ I tried it for a short while but flippin heck I certainly was not brave enough .... Then also realised a fixie with a brake was doff hence the Trek with a freewheel and brakes now 😎
  4. I still ride SS road quite often, the Bianchi/Ducati is no longer SS but I now ride this Trek SS
  5. Jy sal miskien moet prentjies teken
  6. If BigH was still here he would have given an unequivocal response .... Those were the days
  7. Steely Dan out and about with Gale for company ... 'steel is real' but certainly not magical, at least not like the hipsters would have you believe! Having said that still a lekker ride that has a unique feeling 😎
  8. When I look at that bike, for those that have been around bicycles a long time, perhaps John Tomac really was ahead of the game? I ride every opportunity I get .... You never never know what might happen tomorrow
  9. Uh oh ðŸ˜Ū so at least by their definition a gravelbike should have drop bars ... I agree with that but there are some 'ubbers that don't as I recall ðŸĪ”
  10. A bit heavier than my regular gravel grinder but a lot kinder on the body on bad corrugations .... age is not an excuse for me 😜
  11. Some hectic rides here on the Highveld this week .... Ja ja I know us retirees can ride in the middle of the day, ek se maar net ðŸĪŠ
  12. So today a guy asked me "what is the most important thing you've learnt over all these many years of riding bikes" Not sure what he expected but seemed surprised when I said "I'm a happier person when I ride"
  13. "It's not about the bike" Alrighty then .... Enjoying the riding in anticipation of my older boet coming from the land of the long white cloud in November Doing cycle challenge, him myself and my son ... He might not have another opportunity to come so have to make the most of it
  14. I've done it a few times myself and it does work but in my experience ... Make sure you are careful where you start, do not get distracted and ever lose where you are on the rim at any time ... I speak from experience Also because you are meticulous about the half a turn at each spoke doesn't mean the wheel will be 100% true after ... I have had that a wheel was very slightly out after the exercise, not sure if it has something to do with the tension or something. That was the exception for me though Hope that helps
  15. Sometimes a bike is just a bike but today was not one of those times 😁😎
  16. It would appear, if DSTV can be trusted with what they say, they will be broadcasting live this weekend ... 😎
  17. A ride of 'two halves' .... neither pretty but got the job done!
  18. I watch quite a bit of the womens racing and it's probably just my opinion but the way Demi Vollering has been treated by the Dutch team and SD "don't" Worx this season I don't blame her in the least!
  19. I watched religiously until last year .... This year I think I've watched one, after the fact and that's about it. Just check the results now I don't jump through hoops to watch .....
  20. Only saw this, hope it helps
  21. Besides all the background noise and 'ego tripping' I have to agree on the hanger extender. I have tried many different options over a few years with one of those and I can maybe recall one time it worked 'ok' ... Yes it will clear the big gear on the cassette but as you say at a cost of shifting performance. For me it's normally a last resort and then I just accept the crappy gear selection for what it is.
  22. @Robbie Stewart @ChrisF @Dusty Alrighty then, in the bin! Fitted a set of Maxxis Ravagers...a more gravel bike tyre so let's see how that goes 😎
  23. Have been told that before, right here on this thread in fact but I gave it a chance
  24. Some days you are just the statue, lekker day out on the Highveld though Just having enough tread doesn't necessarily make a tyre good .... When it's old and tired it's time to let them go, today's the day! 3 porridge wheels in one short ride can test an oke's sense of humour
