  1. You can never be too light or to wealthy - Oh no sorry a different discussion with my wife last night ...........
  2. Popeye must you remind me of the cost of those Crossmark LUST's
  3. http://www.mtbbritain.co.uk/tubeless_tyres.html Some easy reading regarding going tubeless .......
  4. Legend, I had no problems with 'normal' tyres other than the sidewalls 'seemed' to be more susceptible to sidewall cuts. Since my weight problems are not the bike or it's components I decided to go with the heavier tubeless versions and reduce the sidewall risk! My laaitie reckons those Specialized captain controls are the dogs whatsisnames, they are 2Bliss and not as expensive as some of the other UST/LUST/BUST tyres. I haven't tried them so can't comment though.
  5. We running 3 bikes with Joe's and 2 spare sets of wheels. Have used anything from non-tubeless Larsen TT's, Crossmark's and also LUST Crossmark's, Kenda Karma's, Bee-stings and 2Bliss Captains. Do all our own conversions in the last 2 years after our LBS did the first 2 sets and no issues. Had a few small issues right at the beginning but I would not go back to tubes ........... sidewall cuts can be a swine!
  6. For what it's worth:- 1) Joe's a bit cheaper than Stan's but I (IMHO!!!!) find the Joe's strips a bit 'lighter' in the pants than the Stan's ones. Having said that I still use the Joe's strips ...... 2) Joe's/Stan's 'latex' stuff pretty much the same in my experience but again the Joe's a bit cheaper. 3) I prefer using UST tyres cause the sidewalls are stronger but then again it means they are heavier Also a good idea to take along one of these new fangled snot rag tubeless repair kits although it has been proven here on the HUB that the nearest elastic band goodie from a ladies poney tail will do just as good a job! I think the thin material covered ones would work best Disclaimer - This is my personal opinion and not that of my employer, LBS, family or friends and they should in no way be held liable (nor me of course!) for any failure/DNF/walk home that this advise may cause.
  7. Oh OK BG, I've heard they can remove chain protectors there as well .........
  8. From 100mm to 80mm will surely change the geometry, as to how much you'll feel it will depend on how good/feely a rider you are and what kind of riding you do I guess. The steerer tube length is extremely important if buying second hand. Make sure it will fit your bikes frame !!!!! Many have made the mistake of buying forks with too short steerers and ended up with an expensive doorstop .. My son and boet both ride with Rebas in their various forms and are very happy, which one just depends on your budget. Buy the best you can .....
  9. Zas - what is wrong with you bud !!!!! I'm trying to get some work done and you go around posting bike porn That bike of yours is really looking spectacular, not sure LittleBen will still be able to ride in your company next time you ride in the same event with his lesser 'weapon'!
  10. - agree with you there gangsta, good value for money forks and they don't give trouble (OK in my experience before some smart alec comes up with a hundred examples of said failures etc.!). LittleBen has ben riding one for over a year and he is pretty hard on forks (blew a FOX terralogic in PMB early last year, granted there was more to it than just his aggressive riding!).
  11. I won't say a word ......... my lips are sealed!
  12. Are these 'adults' we are talking about who should know better? If so they know the risks and are obviously prepared to take them ....... I hope for their sakes their luck holds out (and mine!) and as IanJ says I also take a chance here or there but if something happened (and it was my fault) I would have to live with it!
  13. Hey IanJ - Etwerp would never waste a pie like that, the wrapper perhaps but not the pie !!!!!!!
  14. Easy now gangsta we get the picture
  15. I'm not going to be able to sleep for weeks after that statement! Specially the 'waste' down part, uuugggghhhhh!
  16. Spidey - is that a likeness of ewep 'thin'?
  17. I remember for some of the drifter races we attended you could collect your number either at FPC in PTA on the Tue/Wed or at FPC JHB Thu/Fri or something like that. That could work no?

  19. mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm As to the extent of the shaving, I believe that we're now approaching what could be referred to as a target-rich environment for "TMI" or too much information. It suffices to say, those places where: a) road rash would be a factor or, b) where post-ride-related muscle massage is administered are good. That pretty much negates the need to drag the razor into the nether regions. Having said that it may of course have nothing to do with cycling .........
  20. - they're OK I heard so long as you only ride them in the dark ..... when no one will see you!
