  1. Anybody got some advice for helping with numbness in the hands? After about an hours ride, my hands are numb to the extend that I struggle to shift.

    - Gloves too small.

    - Hard grips (think ESI extra chunky or Wolftooth Fat Paw).

    - Bike setup/fit (heavy upper body, too much weight on hands, saddle too far forwards, stem too low, etc)

  2. I don’t think it’s your rim width - no matter how hip wider rims are nowadays.

Ikons have less grip than Racing Ralphs, so I would stick to the current config.

Maybe watch some youtube videos on cornering - it’s something I still need to work on quite a bit but have come to realize the value thereof. Tire grip will unfortunately only help us as far as it can.

  3. Is this the fastest way to get to Momentum Multiply’s Platinum status (650 points)? So it takes around 90 days.

    50 - Having cover

    60 - Complete all 3 questionnaires

    40 - Safety score result

100 - Health assessment (Dischem or Clicks)

40 - Safety check (Tiger Wheel and Tyre - R99)

    80 - Fitness assessment (R420) https://www.multiply.co.za/engaged/health-professionals

    100 - Financial adviser review (R?)

    = 470 points (180 points outstanding)

    (90 days to platinum)

    90 Safe days

    90 Active days

  4. Discovered the best value for money Coffee Roasters..

    https://gegrond.co.za/

They have a special running until end of March 2021 - 10% off if you use Coupon Code: Carb10

Medium roast Speciality coffee - I especially like the Natural Nicaragua Marsellesa (I prefer natural over washed though).

I mean you just can't beat this quality at R240-R300/Kg

  5. ML worth noting that the SA Medical Council put LOTS of rules in place ....

One of these means that each and every medical aid premium already includes your broker fee ...

No need to suffer through a call centre !

Have a sit down with your broker .... a good broker starts by asking a range of questions, aimed at determining your familie requirements, from chronic to hospital to specialists etc etc ....

This is the only way to determine which package provides best bang for your buck.

Didn't know - thank you for this!

  6. Been with Discovery for almost 20 years. The odd issue, but ovetall good experience.

Know different families that moved from Fedhealth to Discovery. Minor differences, and different reasons, but in each case the Discovery package was just that bit better.

The way the packages are structured it is VERY difficult to do a direct comparison ....

At one stage Fedhealth covered certain blood tests from the "risk portion", not the savings ... for a select group of clients that was a decider. Discovery has excellent extended chronic benefits , which may sway certain clients ...

    I cant comment on Momentum.

Ultimately only a good broker can analyse YOUR needs and guide you to the correct package for you ...

Maybe rather ask for references for good medical aid brokers in your area

    Thanks for the feedback.

Have talked to Fedhealth and Momentum and their call centres aren’t very well informed about the options they offer - even less so for the reward programme, so maybe a good broker would be more useful.

I decided to do the work and go through each of the options I’m interested on my own - as in read the entire brochure to understand extactly what you’re getting for your money.

I would imagine that between the big providers there wouldn’t be too many issues - they’re all reputable.

  7. For your use case there's no reason to spend above and beyond Shimano Deore (best value for money brakeset IMO).

Rather spend the leftover funds on other upgrades.

I haven't read or done scientific tests but I highly doubt there is more braking power between Shimano brakesets, if you keep the number of pistons the same. There's a difference in look, feel and weight (different materials used), but the braking power difference would probably be placebo, or negligible at best.

  8. Hi all,

So after spending a month in CT and doing some trails I decided the one thing, or the first thing I want to upgrade on my bike is the brakes.

    I currently have a Titan Cypher 120.

The reason for the upgrade is currently I am on the heavy side so decent brakes makes sense.

Any suggestion as to a decent brake upgrade that I can and should look at?

  9. I am riding with them, and have introduced them to 2 mates, both of who really, really like them.

They naturally have their limitations for off-road riding, but for commuting, and long/flat sections of good dirt, I reckon they are the best item I've bought since...clipless pedals - they simply work very well!

they take up next to nearly no room, weigh 62-odd grams, and as far as them being 'fugly', who gives a toss, they are functional!

I had actual alu bar ends placed towards the center of my h/bars for the 2006 & 2007 Epics, where, with big gravel pulls, they worked well, remembered how I roa with them, spoke to Olympic, who showed me these, and they are way better, since I can brake and change gear with them...

    Nice - thanks.

Ordered them on Saturday. Will be a great deal at R720 if they work as well as I think they will. Grips and saddles I want to get right - the rest of the components I can deal with but if those 2 things cause pain then MTB'ing isn't as fun.

  10. BTC has tripled in value since this comment

    selll sell sell

I also own some. Great rand hedge and insurance against global currency debasements, massive money printing, overinflated sovereign debt levels, etc.

But creating some fringe alt coin is very easy to do. Cryptocurrency scams are rife nowadays - so please don't trust the links to exchanges or random crypto coins people post here.

    - If you currently want to buy Bitcoin in SA, you can either buy Michael Jordaan's EC10 ETF (available from the website or Easy Equities) or you can buy actual Bitcoin from an exchange (Luno is the most established local exchange).

  11.

I would like to say that the stock market is not very interesting for earning nowadays. Crypto is much more profitable. I have traded on the stock market, and I want to tell you from my experience that the result is very disappointing to me. It's either JSEcoin . JSEcoin is a customer-oriented web platform built on top of a browser blocker. Their goal is to create an energy efficient cryptographic currency, extracted by web masters, which will be accepted worldwide by major users. I have several crypto wallets, but I mainly invest in bitcoin, naturally I keep my money in a secure wallet https://bitcoinofficial.org/ . In the long term, bitcoin is much more profitable as a percentage. Well, I do not believe in the stock market. The choice is left to everyone !

You sound a lot like the regular snake-oil-salesmen I have the pleasure of meeting every now and again.

  12. How dumb can you be? Morne, you knew how the Whatsapp read and you wanted to make it sound like Robert was in the wrong with your 1st and 2nd post..

Robert, hat's off to you for handling this so professionally - I would have lost my shat long ago.

Morne - From reading that Whatsapp conversation I'm genuinely surprised that you have some people standing up for you. Get your act together.

Guys and gals (If there's any here) - Mornè has sent me the proof of payment and he has also requested that I post the full conversation from our dealings on WhatsApp here on this thread.

Just to be clear, I've not sent anything to anyone else about Mornè, I re-listed the fork in the hope of selling it on. So here's the full conversation. I have removed the banking details for both parties envolved

  13. Signage warning that you keep Snakes on the property... Or just keep actual snakes.

Word spreads insanely fast and you won't have many people walking past your property anymore, nevermind setting foot on it.

It does create an interesting issue when you need some manual labour to do work on the property and no-one wants to set foot there...

    hahaha, seriously?

  14. Hi everyone. I thought we could make an informative thread about how to secure your home.

Things in the Western Cape are escalating and quickly catching up to the crime levels of Gauteng. This has raised concerns over how to secure your home and premises.

So. Let's create a poll for what you prefer to use and what you have found to work and those things that don't work. I think most people have the basic in-door alarm system with burglar bars of some sort and maybe a few security gates to covers doors or passages. What I think most people are more interested in is how to secure your home and premises above and beyond the basics.

Please message any items/tech I have forgotten to add.

Then in the comments section it would be nice if you guys/girls could mention some specific products/dealers/websites that you recommend. To keep this more clear, please add a Location if necessary.

Let's try and keep spam to a minimum? I think a lot of people are looking for advice, dealerships and expected cost of installation so let's try and help people with something informative. Lekker lekker.
