  3. there are some roads you just don't ride on (not even drive on) and Potsdam is one of them. you can thank your lucky stars you came out on the right side of a bad situation.

    Now I Am UPSET!

were you on your bike or in your car.
  5. Report it to Helen Zille's tweet (or whatever you call that type of media). my daughter reported some ass tailgating here in the suburb where we live and the local 'traffic police'paid a visit to his parents and issued him with a warning.
  6. i've been riding Contermanskloof since 1994, we use to stop at the top and look at the gravel and say 'no, not on a road bike'. i still wonder why the gravel was tarred & who convinced who to tar the road and why only till just past the dairy. contermans was also popular for couples to meet out of the public eye.i can distinctly remember 3 different couples that would meet on certain days of the week half way up the climb to chat.
  7. just a word of warning - as you enter stellenbosch, riding past Kyamandi is a hot spot for bike muggings.
  8. when you descend polka towards Kuils River turn right at the last traffic lights before the blackheath / kuils river intersection, follow the road to the circle then right into annandale rd, keep straight till you get to bottelray much safer and you miss all the robots.
  9. Bellville CC - based at the Velodrome - i'm not sure if they are active over weekends in the way of organised training rides. City CC - www.citycyclingclub.org, we ride every weekend & public holiday. we have just finished having our club champs (Edgemead) New Balance - they have various disciplines including cycling - i'm not sure if they have training rides - pm me , i can get their contact details. Paarl CC - contact Hein Kroff at Kroff Cycles in Paarl Track Cycling SA CC - based in Kuils River (i think) Tygerberg CC (don't get confused with the MTB club), not sure if they still active. Kinetic CC - mainly Kraaifontein/Blackheath
  10. i would go for the cannondale (i've had 3 so i know the make, i haven't heard of Ghost Eps). make sure that the bike is the right size. they come in small , medium & large nowadays. are the bikes from a reputable dealer?
  11. is there prize money at stake or just bragging rights for the winners?
  12. City Cycling Club leave from Edgemead Sports Fields at 7.00am sharp every Saturday morning for a lekker ride. this Saturday 26th we will be riding to Llandudno and back, the distance is ± 80 k's. Sunday , we depart from the Letchworth Drive, Edgemead BP Service Station , also at 7.00am to Stellenbosch & back (±80 k's). This coming Saturday is the DC so a lot of riders will be out in S'dam. City CC ride regardless, we will only miss a weekend if Xmas is taking place.
  13. if it's your time to go , go you will. whether you are facing or riding with the flow of traffic
  14. try the Berg River
  15. how much was it to enter the TOSA 2011?
  16. this is the team time trial , where the object is to ride fast - the above promotes riding as fast as the slowest rider. promoting mediocrity.
  17. cycling safety - i'm a bit confused about this. do you want the csa to address your safety when you train or do want them to ensure the safety of cyclists when they race? the tosa was stopped on stage 2 by csa because the traffic authorities could not control the traffic. csa officials made the call to scrap some events in the SA road champs because traffic officials could not control traffic. traffic officials do not have a zero tolerance towards motorists who endanger all road users, how do you expect the csa to enforce road regulations when they have no jurisdiction over them. i have raced in the WP and on a number of occasions our races have been called off because cyclists raced in an unsafe manner.
  18. so whats the difference between a 26'er and a 29'er other than the obvious.
  19. the CSA is an administrative function only, with fully paid admin staff. all the various disciplines (road , track) have directors. wrt road / track champs , the csa will ask a province to tender/apply to host the event. whoever gets to host the champs must ensure that the event runs smoothly. at last year's champs in PE its seems as if CSA (road director) let things slide until it was too late to rectify.
  20. H K G f K . i'm surprised that a letter that i have had sight of hasn't been published yet.
  21. H K G f K
  22. would it be asking too much of the ex road director to actually list the bad decisions made by management (of which he was part) and the amount of money each of these decisions cost?
  23. City Cycling Club are riding to top of Suikerbossie on Saturday morning (7am) and we will be doing a 100 k ride on Sunday also starting at 7am. we expect the roads to be very quiet. can't wait.
  24. Have fun. don't worry about the result. my son and i started at 40 km rides with my cycling club on a saturday, we progressed to longer 50-60km rides and rode 1 80km ride before Argus. we rode our 1st argus 4 yrs ago (good weather) and i made sure that we soft pedalled the flat sections, free wheeled the downhills and we did a 4.19. we had 2 yrs of S easter where our time went backwards but not our finishing position. last year we rode a 3.40 with ease. at 15yrs old he now wants to ride on his own. he should ride a 3.10 easily.
  25. Zac , you'r young , you must learn how to suffer in cycling. buy the lightweight/fancy stuff when you've left the junior ranks. who knows you might get them from your team sponsor if you progress to be a pro.
