If you've lost it none of the above tips will help. If you've still got it check the contact surfaces of the stem. If it's an old stem they may be worn and you may need to lose it.

I agree the shop should have stipulated postage would be extra. However, if it was me and as long as they charged me what they were charged for postage, I'd have no problem with that. We're all different I suppose.

The shop stated they would have to get the part for you, that means it's not in stock which implies postage will be incurred. To not be willing to pay postage is being petty IMHO.
