  1. Check it. A few months ago I removed the top of my plaasbakkie engine. I had it skimmed and pressure checked. I Checked the torque specs. 88nm. After torquing it, I filled the engine with oil and water. And started the engine. Only to find that the new Payen gasket was leaking from everywhere. So I phoned the guy who did the skimming and k@kked him out for his poor skimming job. I took the top back. Only for him to show me the top WAS flat So it had to be a defective gasket... I bought a new gasket and assembled the whole thing again. And torqued it to 88nm. Correct sequence, new bolts and all. And filled it with water and oil again. I stared it up again. Water coming from the sides of the engine. Spluttering. I then got another torque wrench. Needless to say, the bolts moved another 180 deg. And the problem was solved...
  2. Few things: As stated by Droo: The shop MUST at least phone you for an ok before carrying out specific repairs. Unless you told them to fix it 100%, no matter what it costs... You are going to get bills for repairs on cars, bikes, paint jobs etc UNTIL you learn to DIY. People who are prepared to 'dirty' their hands pay less. I have seen friends carting off their bikes to the bike shop for a simple derailleur/shifter adjustment. I offered to help for free. Their answer? The would rather have a 'professional' do the job. My thoughts? Cough up. And don't cry. I have seen a lot of rants and raves about cycle shops. One thing that leaves a smile is that 2 okes will RANT and 3 okes will come with a RAVE for the same bike/shop/race/tire/component/medical aid/insert your own rant.
  3. You should start these type of posts with: "Is it OK if etc etc etc" (insert sarcastic emoticon)
  4. Maybe and maybe not. Maybe the OP was unaware of the 1 gazillion posts on the 29er and 26er debates.
  5. You forgot the flame guard... Or something like this:
  6. What would you say is the fat percentage on that tire?
  7. Anybody in RSA that sells these? I believe the Superstar Superlegerra and Halo SupaDrive is the same thing. Both are rebranded Chosen hubs.
  8. Loctite? Are you sure?
  9. Google aluminium nipples and ENVE wheels and see what nipple corrosion really is. http://forums.mtbr.com/wheels-tires/enve-wheel-nipple-corrosion-835853-7.html
  10. Ja maar jy sien ek het engels amper in standird 4 gedop.
  11. Another interesting first post. Sooooo: By having a so called high end bike makes you a A group rider.... To compliment the post of "eddy" Wanneer jy 'n Afrikaanse antwoord gee op 'n oorwegende Engelse forum, sou mens verwag dat die skrywer redelik ernstig oor sy taal voel. My een dogter is in graad 6. Ek skaam my oe uit my kop uit as sy sulke swak sinsbou tentoon sou stel. Sies man.
  12. I really cannot tell the difference between these and R400 chains. Plated, so they rust less than do similarly priced Shimano offerings. I have not had a failure with these. Their quick link included. (But I don't use USN stuff, so am not really strong ) How long do they last? You ride them in the mud for 500km's and they are toast. (Aka 2012 Cape pioneer trek) My partner had a XT chain. He also discarded his after the race. Poegaai. Epic 2013: wore out 1 chain. But my partner also had to dump his chain (XT) after the race. Training mostly on road(mixed tar and unsurfaced) typically gives 4000-5000km's Note that I have a very low tolerance for dumping used chains. I usually get 6 chain's life from a cassette) I have also used them with 9 speed cassettes and 9 speed (Shimano, Truvativ and Blackspire) chainrings. Are they good? Good enough.
  13. These http://www.rapide.co.za/pYBN%20S10CR%2010%20SPEED%20CHAIN/YBN-S10CR-10-Speed-Chain.aspx#.UvvCbGKSwao
  14. I am looking for a carbon fibre repair kit (locally). I can import, but would like to try locally first. Like this:
  15. I don't have Chris Kings, but I have been riding DT Swiss 240s for 9 years (standard J bend spokes). I have not had a single problem so far. Johan Bornman disliked them. Called them 'swiss cheese' Others seem to like them http://www.mtbr.com/cat/tires-and-wheels/hub/dt-swiss/240s-disc-rear-hub/prd_364635_127crx.aspx That said the Chris Kings have more colours. And I think a higher bling value. Also consider Hope hubs. Far cheaper than the two mentioned products.
  16. Nothing says: "I am an underendowed man (euphemistic)" like flickering blue lights.
  17. Classic is in Feb Experience in December
  18. Diff oil The reason why everybody swears by his lube is that oil is just that. Oil. Unless you have a 29er specific saddle, a 650B specific stem and 26er specific pedals...
  19. https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/117620-best-chain-lube-for-mtb/page__hl__chain%20lube Do a search
  20. Maybe take it down to the engineering shop and ask them to turn an aluminium tube that would fit tightly into the steerer tube on a lathe? Couldn't be that difficult.
  21. Now this is an engine
