  2. That may be so, but I stay IN NELSPRUIT and the entry fee of R720 leaves a less than desirable taste in my mouth. In 2012 we each received a Bestmed sweater as well as a t shirt. This year we received only a shirt. I spoke to 2 of my mates that also did the Jock in 2013. Both frowned upon receiving the R720-news. The economy does have an effect on what races people do.
  3. I did it about 4 years ago. The race was ok-ish. Route markings were less than adequate and we got lost. The scenery was SPECTACULAR though. Beautiful. But the collateral damage was extreme. We paid THROUGH OUR EARS for accommodation. R1200/night for a dirty one bedroom "self catering" flat (meaning that it had a kettle, 4 mugs and less cutlery) with a leaky roof, a geyser that did not work. Neither did the light in the bathroom. We could not get hold of the agent that was supposed to be responsible for the hirings. The paint pealed off the walls. Sies. The Fast foods from the corner cafe gave my kids gippo guts the night before the race. Book early if you want proper accommodation.
  4. Ja really funny this hazbeens stuff. Is Nico Pfitzenmaier not a vet?
  5. Thanks. BAD Assault with the intention of doing grievous bodily harm?
  6. What is 'switching'? (Sorry, I ride a MTB)
  7. Make that six Hulle kan gaan k_k in die mielies.
  8. Blooming hell! The last sets I got from CRC for around R200/set. (OK, that was a year or so ago before Zuma 'fixed' the Randela)
  9. How many kilometres/months did the original wheels last? I can't really say mine (original) has a short lifespan. They last more than a year. I have not tried 'generic' jockey wheels. I see on the little wheels that a top and a bottom jockey wheel is indicated. I have even used them the 'wrong' way around and I can't really say I noticed a difference.
  10. I had to order silver spokes from CRC the last time. It's all part of the BSE(black spoke empowerment), a sub division of BEE.
  11. A nice bombastic post. Ease off on the testosterone and coffee. It is not Friday yet. Please add substance to your post and TELL us how many km's YOU got on tar with Ardents?
  12. Good for you.
  13. Horses for courses. I have a 29" hardtail with 'only' 100mm of travel. I have no use for a Bronson 2.3" or a Minion. I think 90% of mtb's in RSA are sold with hardpack tires. (That is if you 'see' a bike with less than 150mm as a mtb...)
  14. This thing about MTB tires not lasting on tar? Hearsay. Urban legend. I have had the following tires as a back tire in the last few years: Kenda Smallblock 8, Conti Race King and my all time favourite, the Crossmark. Not one of these tires lasted less than 3000km. MOSTLY tar. After the Barberton MTB race in January, I installed Crossmark UST as a rear tire an an Ikon front. Did Feb and March TAR ROAD training for Epic. Then I did the Epic on the same tires. After that I did more km's on tar. Then I did the Jock road race in July on the same tires, trained and did the 3 Towers on the same tires. The Ikon is close to new condition, but the rear may be close to the end of its lifespan. Go figure...
  15. Isn't the derrailleur a short cage? Don't you need a longer caged jockey?
  16. Apples and pears? Business is business. The big drug companies are not in it because the are 'Mother Theresa'. They are in it for the money. Not for humanitarian reasons. If they cannot make money selling drugs, they will put their money somewhere else.
  17. How many $$$ went into the motorcar business since Carl Benz built the first car? And still we buy them. The motor car business will still be making trillions of $$$ before the oil reserves run out. That is how big business works.
  18. I see that you say you come from a different angle than V12man. Yours a layman and him as a medical professional(as far as I can gather). There will always be professors world wide questioning others(the article you quoted) That is what professors do. Unfortunately conspiracy theorists (media) very often 'misquote' knowledgeable people. Sells more newspapers. I would think very carefully before I just stopped 'my' statin (I am one of the fortunate ones with low cholesterol, so I am not on pills) Studies have shown a dramatic incidence in cardiovascular events in the peri-operative period if a statin is stopped abruptly (pre operatively). This study was not performed or sponsored by a drug company. It was a retrospective study. Another effect of Statins is that it stabilize plaques that are already formed in the arteries. It is not just a cholesterol lowering drug. (Plaque rupture causes a sudden heart attack in a seemingly healthy person. Even a small 20-25% lesion can rupture and start the cascade that completely clots up your coronary artery.) BUT you are right in one way. Drug companies make BILLIONS of $$$ by selling medicines. And where money comes into play, there will always be some form of dishonesty.
  19. Sorry Very little people can help you to bleed your Elixers You need Higher help.
  20. NO BARBERTON???????!!!!! Now this is bad news
  21. The first WTB frequency Team rims (i19 and i23) were made of 7000 series alloy. After about 18 months these rims started to crack around the nipple holes.. WTB claimed that the wheel builders were using too much tension. (As far as I remember the max tension spec was 130kgf. High indeed, but those were the specs given by WTB) I see the last batch I got was manufactured of an 'all new' 69 series aluminium. (Stans (ZTR) also use 6000 alloy for their rims. The 7000 alloys are more expensive, but claimed to be stronger for the same weight than the 6000 alloys. Some say that a good 7000 alloy with T7 heat treatment is as tough as Fe...
  22. The weight of a bike. We all 'would like' our bike to be as light as possible. But the fact is that we 'have' a mtb that weighs 9.964kg(as per website). Then we add bar ends, a bike computer, tape a tube to the seat post, add 2 bottle cages and 120ml of Stans/wheel. And do not forget the pedals. And what about a multitool and a handfull of bombs? How often have I finished a race with a water bottle that had more than 500ml in? Countless. We very often end up chasing our own tails. Like Christie said: Manufacturers also weigh the XXS bikes...
