    are you on something Tim? most electronics on a car is rated weapons grade, meaning it can handle the extreme cold, heat and massive vibration. no way that any margin on a bike is held to a higher standard than in the auto industry, you have a controlled explosions going on under the hood, a bike remains a bike a couple of grams shaven isn't master engineering, the 10000 plus parts in you car have thousands of hours worth of engineering behind them.

    if you dont have a smile on your face while doing it, its not worth it. its not enough for me that is a challenge, if you want that try the Durban dash, hasn't been done on a MTB route yet.

    yip, tried to quit on Thursday before the race and again at water point 2 and 3, kept going to water point 4 at 185km, at that point one of my team mates told me he couldnt peddle another stroke so we packed it up. if you want a challenge this race is for you, if you want to immerse userslf in an experience do the trans, hands down a better in every category. yes the views are probably awesome but u cant see them, food was average, vibe err hard to tell i had a hangover come from a wedding in the bush and had spent 3 days there. take your lynskey and go do the trans you wont regret it Nerd.

    As long as the race is oversubscribed the organizer will dictate terms, once all the CEO and bankers get tired of riding with has-been you may get a say. When the average MTB doesn't have to sell a kidney, lucky we have 2, but I think that day is long way away.

    the 10k weekend that never was, its the right decision to call it off yesterday but it maybe time to consider a backup Day and a second route where road closure may not be a problem.
