  1. Ride with 2 gents on AC WL and have UST Maxxis Ikons on, with no issues.... Just do it!
  2. Good on PYGA. I voted Yeti, as I felt they were trying new things, as opposed to keeping to tried & tested.... Looks like I'll have to make peace with the Sworks....
  3. Is it worthwhile flipping the front ring after a few 100 / 1000kms, to get a longer lifespan, or will it be necessary to change the chain as well?
  4. Now there's a curve ball.... What would you say are Pros & Cons on either frame? When you have a minute...
  5. Very Cool. Where did you get the bottle cage? Tired of Poly letting me down....
  6. Did a loop on Saturday as fast as my "athletic" body would allow; that runs next to a river, that has ups, downs and lots of loose sand in the corners, on my Epic; running Spez Fasttrak front & Spez Renegade on the rear. They both broke loose on 2 corners, and there was definite drifting going on, but I could feel it coming, so there was time to adjust and catch it before the wipe out hit. I felt like Rossi... This morning, did the same loop on the Cotic; running Maxxis Ardent front & Ardent Race rear... Non event. Very boring in fact. (in fairness, it rained last night, so terrain/conditions weren't the same) Nice combo, just worried about delaminating. Sidewalls appear to be solid. And they are cheaper than the Schwalbe RR I used to run on all bikes, front & rear. (Which were great all rounders IMO)
  7. Had a look at them at the Cycle Faire. Very well put together. Even the inside of the rim was drool worthy. Pity one has to lay rim tape over the spoke holes...
  8. If he is a Large, a have a Cotic Simple looking for a home. Frame is in good condition. Sick green.
  9. I promise I didn't get that memo... Haven't been able to find cool baggies in a while... What's up with that?
  10. Wheel done to the Saffers! Wishing you great success in this venture. See you at the fair tomorrow.
  11. Frame looks intact.... did he taco a wheel? I like the Pyga/s. Just don't know about the seat post angle... The gap between the wheel and the seat post also looks rather large.
  12. In Gauteng: go 32 up front & 11/36 on the back. In KZN: go 30 up front & 11/36 on the back. In WC: go 30 up front & 11/36 on the back. If that's too tough on the legs, take a break, re-assess; & trap daai fiets! I would go 1x10 on a second bike, and leave the 2x10 for stage races, where the race profiles always have some kickers....
  13. You should have told him to partake in Sex & Travel simultaneously, and to get Land Rover when he is a little more grown up... A few months back, our night riding team of 3, came up to a 4 way stop. We did a track stand (circa 21:30pm), shone our anti-aircraft lights in all 3 directions, only to have a prize MF from a security company ignore the Stop, and cut us off. The oke's entire lineage was insulted on the fly. He then decided to stop further down the road, and confront 3 pissed off cyclist, on his lonesome (don't think a rusty Norinco counts...). It took him a couple nanoseconds to realize getting back in his car was the best option, before we reached him... Damn motorists!
  14. Can't be.... Unless the car is stolen, and it came with a full tank. If you get a month's pass for Gautrain, it will probably work out as the same as your monthly car insurance premium alone. You also have to factor all the daily running costs, the cost of ownership, maintenance, etolls, on a car, and then public transport is really cheap. And you get to read or post on the hub; versus chewing on your steering wheel. Sadly, I live out in the sticks, so getting to the nearest station or getting to work, is much of a muchness. Looking at installing a shower at work. Reckon I can cycle into Sandton in the same amount of time it takes me to drive. Pity about the bike in a bag thing, for Gautrain... A stripped down carriage, would be a Win!
  15. Sorry to hear dirt-rider. Cycling mates have a special place, as we go through the highs and lows together; and both are equally memorable. RIP and strength to his loved ones.
  16. Great to hear, and it was great seeing you take on this task for cyclists in your area. Thank you. N
  17. Good Job RR! How is the Fort these days? Have the incidents subsided?
  18. RIP Fellow Cyclist. Sad to see how quickly a cyclists life is taken... Sadly, Jakie's outlook appears to be the norm on SA roads. That's why my road bike gets ridden for about 200km's a year. Argus & 94.7. Re truck drivers. Our standards are way too low, when it comes to driving a vehicle, especially when you consider its easier to pass a Code 14 Truck license to a regular Code 10 Light Motor Vehicle. I have both. I have personal experience of being in an truck, doing potential interviews, for a driving position at work. On 2 separate occasions that day, the GPS said "Turn Left" and both candidates DID! I should mention that they both did this, going through a RED Robot!!! When asked why, they said the GPS said so... Scouts honour! When I got back to the office, I told my business partner he could do the next interviews, as I wasn't being paid enough.... Scary what's happening out there. Be safe & very very aware. Strength to his loved ones.
  19. That looks like a Camber.... Sorry to hear.
  20. On my last trip to Namibia, I just took the chains off, and packed a small bucket, car shampoo & a sponge. Quickest if you plan on driving every third day. I did have a conveyor belt on a frame, hanging off the towbar, to keep stones and dust from flying around. It was heavy. Made one for a mate, and he took his off halfway through the trip; because he couldn't see the benefit.... When he got back, his Explorer caravan looked like it had taken a direct hit, in Syria. The bikes were always good to go! (We did take our 26r's & left the 29r's at home, as it was our first attempt... )
  21. Don't let it bug you too much.... As I say to my kids: the best thing in life is to have Choices. The guys that are going to drop R16k - R40k on a set of wheels, have either saved long and hard; or didn't, yet believe or hope it will improve their riding. I too was sceptical of the benefits. 2 months ago replaced Mavic Slr's with Carbon Rovals, and if nothing else, the steering precision is immediately noticeable, followed with the lateral stiffness of the wheel. It feels like you are carving corners as opposed to going round them. Over time, its small improvements in your ride or kit, that improve the ride, in leaps & bounds.
  22. Think the original post was re service. If the seller was unaware of the crack, OP did him a favour. Re pricing, that's for the 2 of them to decide. I don't think a new frame is the same as a new bike, but from my understanding of the situation, buyer isn't keen at all on the white frame; but is interested in buying a S works frame set of his choosing, where the retailer could be making a grand or 2, as opposed to just swooping out a frame. Always try and sell up... It's how it's being handled that is at issue here.
  23. Graham should be doing it (willingly and gladly) on behalf of the current owner. I agree that the OP is being difficult re colour, but I'll be the first to admit I would hate to ride a bike in the wrong colour. I also don't like this "out" that warranties only apply to the original owner. Why? Was the original buyer vetted, and based on that, granted permission to purchase the bike? Graham signed up for this. Time to deliver.
  24. Also don't understand why you are dealing with 2 stores... Great bikes, great brand, not so great representative. Leave Graham to sink his store, seems he is quite competent, and well on his way...
