  1. Wow, and the anabided ignorance and illogical hatred of all cyclists that is ensuing on facebook is out of hand. People are painting with very broad strokes here.. just shows you what a few assholes can do for everyone in the community.
  2. Yeah, this was originally posted by a colleague of a friend of mine on Facebook, so I just dumped the link here.
  3. "Earlier yesterday morning I was driving on Beach Road towards Cape Town, just past the Pavilion. There are two lanes and I was in the right hand lane. I found myself approaching a bunch of about twenty cyclists, probably practicing for the Argus Cycle Tour. They were in the left lane, but many were riding abreast so some were even encroaching into the right hand lane, past the center line. Aware of the new 1.5 meter rule, I slowed to give them space and was unwilling to overtake. Further ahead was a stationary vehicle that was double parked but it went unnoticed by the leader of the group who was looking back and communicating to the rest of the team. The group were moving swiftly and only at the last second when the leader again faced forwards, did he see the vehicle…. Just in the nick of time. He had to swerve to avoid the vehicle and this obviously upset him. He stopped his bicycle abruptly and flew into a violent rage. The entire peleton pulled up in support and some followed his lead. I fumbled with my phone for valuable seconds and eventually got the camera going, and filmed the violence unfolding before me. You can clearly see how they battered the vehicle, bent the windscreen wipers, pepper sprayed the driver, tried to steal his keys, assaulted him with a bicycle wheel and punched him and the passenger in the face repeatedly. There was a lot more going down than what you can see in the video. I drove away as the vehicles further behind me grew impatient but a few hundred meters further I decided to do the right thing and return to assist the driver and his passenger. By the time I got there, the cyclists had left (I passed them) and the Van was nowhere to be seen. I stopped at my friend Dave D’Aguiar, and shared the video. Dave was equally disturbed by the video and took it to Sea Point Police Station himself about two hours later. He inquired at the charge office if anyone had laid a charge against cyclists for road rage and, as coincidence would have it, the victims were themselves in the police station doing exactly that! As it turns out, they were volunteer workers cleaning up the hydration bags and other litter after the finish of the 10KM Sunshine D, Nelson Mandela Commemorative Walk. If you would like to be instrumental in bringing these hooligans to justice then please SHARE this post now. Like minded citizens may recognize some of the perpetrators and the clubs they ride for. If you recognize any of the cyclists in the video then either ‘name and shame’ or call the investigating officer directly, Warrant Officer Olivier on 021 430 3700."
  4. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=10202991800372949 These cyclists are clearly out of line, cant see what started it but definitely taken way to far by these pieces of trash. Would love to know the club involved, cant seem to see it in the video.
  5. Yeah, and assume its going to be windy. That way you are either on the money or pleasantly surprised.
  6. Yeah, ive got a good feels that the wind will be up next sunday. We had it easy last year, dont think we will get lucky again.

  10. Hey guys, Me and 2 mates are coming up to PMB in March. My current accomodation just told me it wont work and I need to find somewhere else. Has anybody got any advice on good options? Cost effective options? Worth camping or backpacking?
  11. The hardest most complicated decision one could make these days im afraid, is choosing a worthy bike. One thing I must say is that if you think you have budgeted enough, budget some more. You should look at getting a bike for not less than 6.5k, but I would push that up and get a hardtail 29r with semi decent components. Around R8-9k. This will save you down the line when you realise you need a stronger bike, one that wont need to be serviced after every ride. I spent 4k on my first bike, 8 months later, I forked out 20k. Guess its a learning curve you need to go through yourself. Cycling gear, bike wracks, extra gadgets for the bike are expenses that never really cease. So my advice, if you want to save some money in the long run, rather than spend more now and save later. As mentioned above, once the bug bites, you will regret buying an absolute entry level, unless you are prepared to try sell and upgrade in a few months.
  12. Thanks, will do!
  13. Sorry guys, Grinch messaged me like 2 minutes after i put this thread up, he got the ticket.
  14. hey guys wife wont be riding this year so I have one free ticket available to give out. Not looking for any remuneration so first come first serve. Think there is still a day or two to sub? let me know
  15. Hi Nigel How will the construction affect the routes? Me and two mates have been planning a riding holiday next month, 13-17th In Maritzburg and namely Cascades. We are all XC'ers though, no DH'ers. Can we still have buckloads of fun? Regards
  16. I wouldnt want my horse being hit by an errant cyclist that is for sure. Makes sense to rather move out the way.
  17. think you hit the nail on the head with one word... Consideration. Something which is slowly being phased out of existence, everywhere.
  18. my wife was very unfit, took about 4 hours, otherwise its not a hard ride at all, I dont think. Intermediate definitely.
  19. Pretty evident the cyclists were absolute idiots. Pretty evident that anybody defending them needs to get their heads checked. That said, respect is mutual and earned. Cyclists need to firstly earn the respect of the drivers, and NOT the other way around. Next time, they will just get killed because of a lack of initiative to look out from under their noses.
  20. Think im going there this weekend!

    cape argus mtb

only doing this because of the new route etc but seriously concerned about bottlenecks and single tracking waiting times.
  24. Trans-sport can get your bike down to the Argus for cheaper.
  25. I think its in their ruleset that one cannot ask more than what they paid for it. Ask for the difference in sub price and ticket price, more chance of somebody taking that offer than paying you out in full for the ticket. That said, all they would need is your ID number and details to put the substitution through.
