  1. Yeah, if you can find a second hand 29r go with that. Then its the gear, shoes, bibs, tops, camelbacks, helmets, repair kits, Gu's and protein bars, new components, new tyres once a year. Cycling is more expensive than golf now days I reckon.. its a huge money suck but way more rewarding than doing anything else.
  2. Clothing is ridiculously expensive to import. Tax can go up to about 70% in some instances. Declare that the parcel is a gift to a family member and tax should be waived as far as I know.
  3. I went from 26HT to 29FS and dont regret it at all. As a heavy rider, FS is a must I reckon and I watch a buddy of mine ride his 29HT and moan over all the corrugations and bumps etc. I dont think I could ever go back to a HT, and with remote lockout, it climbs pretty well and can push decently on the straights. Bit heavier though.
  4. The guy selling his ticket could ask something for it, but since it goes to charity, all is not lost I would ask for maybe the difference in ticket price and sub fee if anything. That said, you still need to pay a substitution fee.. last year I paid 150 bucks as the subby fee for the ticket I took off somebody else. That person had also paid to sponsor another rider so I am not sure if that counted in my favour or not when subbing.
  5. Yeah not convinced by these. You cant really have a design like that which flex's much otherwise itll end up rolling over itself all the time. So they made it super hard. Cant imagine the ride being anywhere close to comfy.. check how easy he was taking it over the rough stuff. Full on rigid tyre pretty much, may as well be riding a hardtail.
  6. Im sure there is a relation between Brad and Rory, same school and surname. Regardless... I voted good luck to him.
  7. Is that Rory's brother? Im an ex bosch boy
  8. You know many capeys are pretty ignorant when it comes to which trails are illegal, that and most probably arent marked clearly enough. I wouldnt throw around accusations that they are doing it purposefully ruining it for everyone, maybe a few but definitely not the majority.
  9. I noticed that with the Kenda Slant six, especially after putting in new sealant. Issue was that you actually need to clean out the inside lip of any old sealant, preventing a clean fit. Racing Ralphs have no issue.
  10. Love my ZTR Arch EX. Never had to straighten them in over a year and Im about 109kg. Previous rims were like tin in comparison. Syncros.
  11. Buy a kindle, say goodbye to paperbacks and save a fortune on tons of reading material.
  12. Yeah, and the first line with "white with splashes of red..." thought it was going to be an emo thread.
  13. just search cajees on this forum and you will know not to use them.

  15. Mark from Crown found me a new temp replacement while mine gets warranteed. Only lost a weekend, but thanks to his efforts Ill atleast be riding over xmas period!!
  16. thanks for that tip. Going to be paying quite a bit of attention to the pivots in future.
  17. yeah that looks like the spot.
  18. I think I jinxed myself commented in this thread as I now have a cracked chainstay.. right before silly season. Heres to hoping my LBS can find me a temp replacement until the warranty gets honoured. depressing stuff...
  19. Ok my bad, only going on what somebody once said to me. Havent used them before.
  20. couple of clear winners in the southern suburbs it seems: Crown Cycles (My Favourite) Freewheel Cycology (2nd Fav) Trail and Tar Epic Cycles Bridge Cycles
  21. Completely, various steps need to have been taken before highlighting the issue, at least giving the shop a chance. I think there is also the topic of defamation and/or slander? One needs to be careful
  22. All these horror stories from bike shops leads me to think that we need some sort of Hello Peter for the cycling community. There are too many "LBS's" around that seem to take advantage of customers, that and the poor skilled mechanics screwing everything up. Ive had my fair share of dodgy experiences and now deal with different shops for different things. One shop for goods, one shop for specialised work, and one shop for general services. Seems to work well. But having a site where bike shops can register and comment against threads started by unhappy customers, will do wonders to save face and actually build better relationships. We all know things go wrong, but its all about how those issues get handled etc. If Bike shops were made aware that the community is now using a central system to notify others of bad experiences, they will jump at the opportunity to defend themselves.. I hope. If not, they will lose customers.
  23. Ill check out IRide... thanks Edit: I see they offer a Basic Service Course which is exactly what im looking for. Costs around R300. Going to book myself in for the next one. http://irideafrica.com/clinics/mechanics-workshop/
