  1. Cyclists with headphones piss me off... runners as well.
  2. Get the fitment people to set the seatpost at the height the new seatpost would give. This wont be for a prolonged period so wont cause any issues with the frame, but you will definitely be able to tell if the height is sufficient. Either way the Tompson Elite seatposts are awesome, I would get the 410mm regardless if you need a longer post, not really any other option anyway, you need a longer post. The setback is only needed if the frame is quite long enough.
  3. Dude, same issue as I had - im also 1.98m What sorted it out for me was one of these: http://bikethomson.c...ck_elite_69.jpg Its about 410mm instead of 400mm and has ovalled walls for extra strength. I ride a 21.5inch bike and should ideally be riding a 23" bike. This seatpost helps with that, although im slightly off angle on the handle bars as a result, but nothing major. Developed such an issue with PFPS from having an incorrect setup, that moving to this new seatpost, has solved it completely. I see the Giant X 1 XL is about 22" so the setback could work, but you could possible just get away with the 410mm straight seatpost. Last think you want to do is oval your frame, pretty much trash material after that.
  4. So the only link between this guy and cycling is the yellow sticker on the back? Are we playing taffic cops now as well? If no cyclist was involved directly, no point in making a thread about, especially around bad drivers.. the forum will fall over from to many threads.
  5. AKA, MTB Tyres, with knobs on them for grip, unlike roadie slicks etc.
  6. Cycling on the M5 is illegal anyway, hes lucky he didnt get stopped, let alone make it out alive. That road in the morning is painful I watched a young roadie up in Sandton do the exact same thing behind a truck, going down past the Ferrari factory. Rounded a corner and the truck hit a nice big puddle... needless to say this completely soaked the cyclist and he had to pull over to wipe his face and outfit. I had such a good laugh.. made my week.
  7. This is very seldom the case. I think before and after big events, they are quite busy naturally but any other time its usually a next day thing.
  8. Olympic are great for accessories and components, but they seriously suffer in the service department. Way to busy, with way to few skilled mechanics. I dont even think the staff get their bikes serviced there Learnt my lesson, I just shop for parts there and other little things, bibs/shirts etc Crown usually does all my servicing, and Freewheel for any very specific stuff.
  9. Moral of the story, dont take your bike to Olympic for services, always had issues, tisk tisk Warren_G On the up side, the exact same issue happened to the exact same brake lever on my bike (we have the exact same models, Scott 950). A quick visit to Crown cycles and Mark refitted it without cost, if anybody else needs a decent LBS in the southern suburbs then Crown are the right guys.
  10. Just booked myself, my wife, and a buddy in for the night race and the 36km route day after... cannot wait. First timers..
  11. Lol - I purely said that in response to this "So with all the crap we get from the coastal dwellers, I found this impressive!" I read that as, Coastal Dwellers arent as helpful as Joburgers, but I see now it could also be interpretted as JNB's having bad rep for not being helpfull, which i can believe I guess, hence the need for this topic. If the latter applies, my apologies for drawing the comparison. I guess its important to show other Joburgers that being helpful is actually part of being human.
  12. This happens in Cape Town (Coastal Dwellers) so frequently that we dont find the need to post about it everytime. The fact that you felt the need to let others know you got some help, means it probably doesnt happen very often.. up north..
  13. My goal is to ride this next year.. need to get to work now on the training...
  14. Quite easy to adjust your disk brakes to get rid of the scraping.. and who the hell charges for disk brakes alignment? Is that normal? Never been charged for that ever... Sounds like you need to go get a bike fit done.. knee on handlebar doesnt sound very good, but you may not be clipped in?
  15. LOL - video is classic!!! love it!
  16. Thanks, will use this.. never even concidered it before. Coming into Summer there will be many an evening ride and if the Guards knock off early, it will be easy pickings for any criminal elements. Traps need to be set...
  17. How many bike shops out there have the ability to read datadots? That said, im sure more than 90% of all stolen bikes are probably pawned off privately and not to a reputable organisation or shop, making datadots a bit redundant? I had the same concerns about the datadots in my my previous VW which was stolen in March. not a single damn thing came from them, and the cops have yet to even sniff out my car, let alone dismantled pieces. IMO... Datadots dont help and is just another cost to incur with the thought of possibly getting it back after theft, maybe 5% possible.
  18. Not down here in the Western Cape.. we get up early to make the start times without having to break a few laws to do so.
  19. I know this wont help your issue, but the Thule shop in Claremont is brilliant. Okes there go out of the way to make sure you get the right rack and that it gets fitted correctly.
  20. India.. why am I not surprised.
  21. I run the Onza canis in front and the RR at the back, really nice combo.. Might put the IBEX XC on as the rear tyre when the RR nobblies start peeling off.. which is soon I think.
  22. E-commerce systems should not be put in place without at least some sort of automated stock control/WMS system which can communicate with the OMS to update stock counts, on dispatch and on return. Its a typical south african way of doing things, set it up, then try make it work with the other systems. I doubt CWC have got a integrated OMS and WMS to manage their stock, hence is being human driven and prone to problems.
  23. I love my Racing Ralphs, however being a heavy rider, the compound is quite soft and when I hit the tar, the tread wears quite badly. Hitting tar is unavoidable when making my way to the mountain trails, before somebody says something clever like 'Why are you even riding on tar with a MTB'... Good tyres though... ONZA are also pretty decent..
  24. Wow - ok so I went for a proper fit yesterday with Freewheel Cycology. After about an hour session, my saddle needed to be moved backwards, I need to buy a new longer thicker seat post because of my height which has been ordered from the US apparently. My fork neck is too short, thus requiring a riser stem which is all wrong apparently, and bottom line.. my bike is actually a size too small. I need a 23inch and my scott is only a 21.5inch (the biggest size they make).. so this makes me very sad. But getting the fit done has highlighted some areas that will cause my PFPS issues, so definitely worth while! Helped convince the wife that I need an upgrade as well, yes please!
  25. Guys, ive got a physio session planned for this afternoon and a bike fit right afterwards. I never tried to self diagnose myself, but what I will also try and do is find a condition which relates to my issue which can help a professional diagnose the issue. Ive done this my whole life, and everything I get into is first researched online. However I will never try and rehab myself without first seeking professional help, thats just plain silly. But im sure you are all agree, when hit with a funny issue.. sitting and waiting for a doctors prognosis is painful at best. I try enlighten myself first to uncloud the stress in my head which tells me an operation might be looming in the near future. All the reading I have done has helped to calm my nerves, point me in the right direction as to where the issue might be, and I think I may have even found it. The physio and bike fit will confirm my suspicions Im sure. But thanks for all the advise never the less, maybe this thread will help somebody else with a similar issue.
