  1. one Saturday I walked in Spez Helderberg and the staff was superb, know their stuff and I'm just glad I didn't have the old credit card cos I would have been lekker in skuld. Ive walked into others and just got know service. Insurance paid out on my stolen bike so soon I will be spending. A LBS (won't mention their name cos I didnt take it up with them) , i visited 3 times and on all 3 occassions I manage to walk the floor without anyone coming to me, and they were not busy. I drive to CWC, walk the floor all the sales dude busy (I'm a patient guy) and then the oldish guy with a big mouth walks up to me (later I learnt it was CW snr) and asked if I've been help yet. I said not yet, he shouts loud in the shop "die ou het baie geld op hom" , R 16k they richer and I had a cool bike. I was there for the taking the one LBS lost out and the other one won,
  2. My mtb got stolen so reported it to saps and they took a statement and on 3 occasions they spelt 'bicicle'. 98% of hubbers could out run a saps. The other 1% being couch hubbers and the remaining 1% are those starting / getting back into it.
  3. Im a social worker and 08 was a non negotiable cos if you do community work you need to be mobile. However, that rule has been relaxed because many job applicants just didn't have a licence and we needed to employ to get on with the job. The work then assisted these folks with their drivers licence. It so happens that these folks dont come from homes where there is a family car where u stick an L sign and have ur dad yell at you wholeday. Im sure many okes like me were starting cars, pulling it forwards and backwards, taking it down the rd etc way before we could see over the dashboard and our feet just about can depress the clutch. Getting the licence was a mere formality where we probably had some good years behind us, illegally as well (ja, im guilty of this). Many of these folks we hired also had no money for lessons prior to getting the job. Not surprisingly, many of the dents on the fleet cars was caused by them with a licence. I think the same scenario is with Saps, the difference is social workers never needed to chase and race the vehicle to respond to a case, scary stuff when we have a policeman in pursuit with 8 x 1hr lessons
  4. A guy working at the house doing light maintenance stole my bike during Jumuah prayers and is obviously no where to be seen. It is insured but my Garmin Edge 500 and 1200 Lumen light not. I was already at cash crusaders to alert them. We stay in Lansdowne and the oke stays in the Phillipi area. and the policeman were true to form, my dad sat 2 hours
  5. Great article, Im actually excited about giving this ago this weekend. I got shimano pads and brakes. Come to think of it, I didnt do any 'braking' in procedure when I first got the bike and I actually messed it up from the start. I was guilty of pressing the rear brakes lightly as well. This wasnt the case with the front brakes cos I slammed that harder from the start. Now why wasnt I told this from the start? Lol, you learn all the time Thanks, will update once I gave it a go
  6. Need advice. My rear brakes makes a horrible squeaking sound. Not the metal on metal sound. It also didnt brake well and you get this vibrating sensation when hitting it hard. I took it to the lbs cos I wanted it changed. The okes then took it out and said there are plenty of pad left but it was glazed. he removed it, sanded it a bit to remove the glaze and took brake cleaner and cleaned the disc, the problem seem to be solved, for awhile. I had to change the fronts and decided to put a new set of pads in the rear. I cleaned the disc as well. Took it for ride and just when I thought the problem was resolved, it haunts me again, albeit not so bad. Anyone had similar issues? Please let me know
  7. Well done Bobby and the trail building team. Heavy thread. Ok, if the Scott coffee shop is not contributing to the trails and okes feel they gaining unfair mileage then all TMM have to do is erect a sign on the first climb that reads: Please note that these trails are maintained by volunteers and the Scott coffee shop has no connection with these trails. End of story, then everyone knows who to acknowledge for their hardwork and contributions. surely this should be legal and if it is the truth.
  8. I used endomondo with my BB and must say it served me well 99% of the time. I bought a Garmin 500 and totally love it. I love the cadence meter and heart rate monitor. Im a stat man, I enjoy looking at my stats on endo, strava and garmin connect. All 3 programmes offer something special. Ive been pushing harder because I wanna stay long in zone 5, the data motivates me. Certain days I decide im keeping cadence above 110 rpm. So if you love all the data, go for edge 500 at a minimum. If not take the 200 or use a smartphone
  9. Tokai, if you there before 7am most times you can ride for free because the fees office and gate man did not take up station. I'm sure most people don't pay on their way down. I got an annual permit and was probably only asked once last year because all my riding is starting in the dark
  10. Bicycling Empowerement Network (BEN) ?
  11. So tell me, can Sauser train to get this sprinter's 'kick' or is this only a build/genetic thing?
  12. Agree, but if I read Sauser's time in the Argus he pretty looks like he was in the thick of things in the end, so I don't think that is an issue with him
  13. Come on Meezo, Strava is worth 10 points
  14. 4 weeks, R 2450 vs a reboot by Garmin very simple deduction, being a noob poster doesnt bother me provided it is fact, after 4 weeks, I will not smaak to engage them further
  15. I noticed up suikerbossie sauser has the second fastest time after Lill. I also saw in this year's Argus he finished with the winning group. If he gets a lead out, can he win the Argus? Just asking cos that oke is a machine at 37yrs
  16. Well said, so true, I remember my first bike a bmx and it beat the feeling of my first motorbike at 16 and car
  17. Respect! Great job Ever consider connecting with BEN? Im sure there is synergy
  18. Family = koeberg Unless all members of the family have 150mm of travel of course Depends on who is in the family. I for one love tokai ST and climbing up to the mast , however I enjoy koeberg just as much for a lekker relaxing cruise and even better if I get to see table mountain and ride amongst zebras.
  19. Sad, very sad Another cyclist knocked down RIP
  20. I will never take a newbie to Tokai. I actually think that Tokai is dangerous if you clueless and have no skills to start off with (many of us had BMX's and tried silly things and we actually have inherent skills). I see many newbies pushing their bikes up (not DH bikes,), out of breath. I saw many stopping on ST as well. Of course we want newbies, we want more to love the great outdoors. But my advice to Newbie's is go to Koeberg Nature Reserve first, then try Meerendal a couple of times and then do Tokai, Jonkers or what ever you want to. I know many of us Tokai was our first experience and we survived. I will never advise a newbie to go to Tokai first. Some are naturals, for the rest take it easy first
  21. I think im a weekend warrior and enjoy the ppa funrides, for that moment on the start line and crossing the finish line I think im in the tour de f. So ppa works for me
  22. Wayne, you the man, you never gave up! Family, friends all the strength through this difficult time.
