  1. Ride to Avianto on sat morning, do race, ride home..... hemorrhage, recover etc etc
  2. I am 204 and geometry is fine. You should be fine, although a long way from the ground.....
  3. I would tend to disagree with you there. I think there would be PLENTY of "used to be owned by me" bikes in tha ghetto maan. However you would need to have a lot of stolen bikes and ex owners with that trakr, all clustering together to be useful ...... i guess. Sorta like Dips said.
  4. I have a Polar and a Bryton GPS training device. I am wondering what other peoples experience is with the different types of training support software, not so much the devices themselves. I am fairly disappointed in the Bryton web based analysis tools. Editing of the training is pretty much non existent, the mobile device interface is frustrating and half the buttons/links do not work properly. Cant download my training via my Samsung at the moment due to software issues. I am informed that an updated web site is coming, but not sure when. Hopefully this will allow me to customise the elevation of the rides i do, as it is silly having a training ride on the Highveld with a base elevation set at sea level. I can not even see where the climbs are on my training ride. The Polar software is quite a bit more user friendly, as well as being based on my PC which is nice. Not all info recorded is available to trend either which can be frustrating. Garmin, no info yet. Feedback, abuse, support, etc etc welcome.
  5. If i ride on the Cradle MTB route next to the road, and then on the road the next week. Will Strava allow me to make a segment that picks up which one i rode?l.
  6. you forgot E TolMy cesspool rocks!

  9. Heeeey, grandpa hands. Musta got tender after a while......Ouch.
  10. Soft Tail = Awesome Slight Extra weight of soft tail = not so awesome. Extra large engine, finely tuned for MAC = awesome
  11. Now i know why i bought a 700C
  12. What about the poor ignored 27.5, middle child syndrome?
  13. Escapee being a goose again! You will never be a Mod with that attitude. Un-nominate
  14. Being a noob and all on this race, can someone please give some practical advice on how best to use the blikkies given to us. We do not have a support vehicle as lack of wives/friends, so our only support will be what we pack in these boxes. 1) Clothes : i cant take everything on my back and i understand it gets pretty damn cold there when the sun goes down ...... and you doing a 16 hour ride. 2) Food : I see they have had soup at the check points. I am pretty sure this will be sufficient as GU is probably NOT the way to go on this race 10 hours in. Not wanting to pack food in the blikkie and hope i get to the right blikkie at dinner time. 3) Spares : Will carry spares that are needed and maybe toss in a spare tube or two into the blikkies. I will not have spare rims or derailleurs etc Considering having a second battery for the light, but will prob put this in the last bin, but not sure how this will help when the sun goes down around checkpoint 5 ish...... 4) Ask for Deo and suntan lotion (for next morning if all goes bad?) can only be put in Bin for Pt 4. 5) Kinda nervous now even though i am sure i will be fine.
  15. Hmmmm, ja....About the support vehicle and driver. That plan kinda fell through. Option 2 = 3 x blikkies with clothes and spares + a School kid driving the car down to Jbay for us
  16. Standard frames from established brands stop around the XL size. Its what i got Next step was going to a custom frame, and that was too much effort for me, I am actually quite happy with my set up, not too stoopid looking..... and not crashed too many times. BUT : a 120 mm stem on a medium frame might not be the way to go. Edit frame size
  17. Bike cost is mostly proportional to the extent to which the bike will go faster, without killing you. The more you spend, the lighter it will be, less rolling resistance (or better grip/handling), etc etc. So from a purely engineering point, good enough is how much money you have, and how urgently you wanna beat piet pompies next to you. Sorta like Scotty said. IMHO R30 k will get you a fine hard tail. Do research here (or the two bike mags mentioned) and chose your own component and frame set, and build it up.
  18. So MTB goes Parkour? Do we have to do spinning aerial manoeuvers while keeping our posture and balance perfect as well? Just checked, i am safe. Doing the Shova that day. No need to steal golf balls from Parkview....
  19. Accommodation sorted in Vaalwater. Tx to Willomore tourism office. Very helpful. Now to try and explain to the JBay place that i do NOT know when i will get there, it WILL be after 5pm on Sat, and i will want to see a bed for a few hours on Sunday morning (i hope), it may be at 3 am when i get there. Deal with it. Now to get the pard to do some training
  20. 120 mm stems are the ****! Not everyone is 3' 8"
  21. Nah, cant be you. Too light on the top side and too heavy on the legs
  22. not sure what your expectations are on this. It would have been nice to have the level of water points you get in trailseekers, but guess sponsorships and smallish race numbers dont help either. Organisers have been chirped before on profiteering before, but not so sure this is the case here. But would need to check the books to know for sure........ I must say i am not sure the water would have lasted for all racers which would not be forgiven, but i finished before this would have happened. Otherwise nice race
  23. Do they have a real feel temperature for me doing 37 km/h average?
