SAS are awesomely slow at doing what they say they will do. There is a batching link on the SAS site for Participants, but i have only once found the batches on there..... and that was for The Berg and Bush...... If you can find your historic race data on the SAS site, you might be able to deduce your seeding start time. Phone them will possibly work, or go to a number collection venue today if you can is probably the best way to find out when you will start

If they did the same as last year, the 72 km guys do a loop around the graveyard before going down the spruit. After the 72 km batch started, the 50 km batches headed straight down the spruit. Therefore doing the 72 km will put you STRAIGHT into the soup of the slow spruit riders as soon as you clear the botanical gardens. The 72 km guys caught me (50 km option) going up the climb from the spruit to the Sandton Police station. Motorbike leading the 72 km leaders group informed us they were coming.
Long slow rides for training. The web site gives good pointers on this. A 5 hour MTB ride is do-able for most who are going to be entering this race. HOWEVER : If you do a 5 hour 40 km MTB half marathon, then yes you are in big poo. Take it easy try not to spend an hour in each check point and go for it. Hope my pard is a lot stronger than he was last time. 15 hours is a long time to spend cycling before you finish.
They had a company putting your device into a charging station, Got very congested and they were STUPIDLY slow and plugging devices in and unplugging and doing the whole here is your ticket for your device in Station XX. Long queues so drinking time was affected. But the station is very accessible and the guys did what they said they would do. Take your device charging cable, sometimes they did not have cables for non standard USB devices.
I got the PPA booster up to 2B from wherever i was "supposed to be". Did quite well finishing in top 75 of a group of 500 finishers. Not sure the PPA booster is a shambles as mentioned. Depends on the riders and the weather conditions i guess. Based on the overall finishing position, i could have started in 1J......... Would have bled through the eyeballs, but i could have. #justsaying
All the tandems we found the in 2B were well behaved and all went well. The odd concertina but everyone chirped to warn others. Guys chasing tandems downhill also behaved. All in all a good day. Sad to see guys on the side of the road and hear of the the cyclists down. Condolences to the family’s
