  1. I have been riding the spruit for years now, quite often alone. THe only incident I have ever had was when going up Republic, back towards Emmarentia I decided that the side walk was busy and went up on the road only to be knocked off my bike by a car. So yes I think your chances are much greater being hit by a car than being attacked. The only really dodgy place is the area behind the new Pick 'n Pay and you can cut that piece out by going down past Ital Tile
  2. Has the enties closed already? I went to their website now and tried to enter the race but it asked for your ID number and then nothing happens.
  3. The next thing we are going to start a thread that JB is bad for LBS's and the local economy by showing cyclists how to service their own bikes and not send them the the bikeshop for expensive repairs
  4. Like The Thug I have a Reba Team on my Scandal and a Carbon Rigid on the SS Scandal. I am very happy with the performance of the Reba Team. My next bike / dream bike will be the Carbon One One with a Carbon lefty fork
  5. Go to http://www.planet-x-bikes.co.za/category.aspx?categoryID=228 and get two of of these babies. I have them on me 29er with horizontal dropouts with QR wheels
  6. Do youself a favour and just go to the post office where the parcel is being sent to and check there international parcel book for your name. It happened twice to me that the tracking would say arrived in SA or clearing customs when the package was already waiting for me at the post office
  7. Firstly have a look at the ZTR Crest instead of the ZTR355. They are new in the Notubes range, they cost almost the same as the 355's but are disc specific and lighter. In my opnion I would go with shimano XTR hubs, they are light and well priced (compared to DT swiss and only R600 more than Hope2) for what you getting, and there are stock @CRC. If you want to save money consider the shimano SLX hubs (R600 for the pair) and they are lighter than the XT hubs. JB built me a 29er wheelset with SLX hubs and ZTR355 rims that weigh 1800g with which I am very happy. My next wheels will be 29er ZTR Crest with XTR hubs which will be stong and come in under 1600g SteveS2010-05-13 03:20:55
  8. Riding your MTB with 4 bar in your tyres, the only flying you will be doing is over the handlebars. When I strated Mtb'ing after being a roadie I too pumped my tyres 4 bar and could never understand why I fell so often.
  9. Front 1.9, rear 2.1 bar
  10. In Joburg there is only one place to go and that is Johan Bornman of Yellow Saddle
  11. Shamus Has some demo pink Eggbeaters SL pedals for R600
  12. I have Eggbeaters on my hardtail and Candys on my single speed. I must say I am leaning towards Candy's. Weight is not really an issue, there is only a few grams difference. My reasoning for getting the candys on the SS was for the amount of standing one does it would be better to have the platforms for extra weight distribution. I have not had my Candys long enough but the eggbeaters don't last long before you have to replace the bearings and bushes using the rebuild kit. Maybe it is because the Candys are the SC ones and my Eggbeaters are only C. I am most likely not going to rebuild the Eggbeaters again and will be replacing them with a new set of Candy SC.
  13. Old Timer Sorry for your loss. Your post has some valid points, but again people are blaming the cyclist in this instance for his own death. If you made some effort and read up on what exactly happend you will know that this cyclist did absolutely nothing wrong. See the quote below from the Beeld article: ?Ons voorlopige ondersoek wys ?n motor het die man van agter getref,? het Mokheseng ges?. ?Hy het helder en duidelik sigbare fietsryklere aangehad en het in die noodbaan gery toe hy getref is.? There are loads of other threads on the hub were you can go and slate some cyclists behaviour on the roads. This thread is not one of them.
  14. Do You guys pay per credit card at a supermarket? I think that is a credit card service charge. I now from experience if you pay more than R4000 by credit card they hit you with a fee.SteveS2010-03-20 10:43:38
  15. Do a site search using the forum only bar on the left, there are hundreds of threads about this topic, no need to start a new one.
  16. Eedubz. Yip. Just after you crossed over Barry Hertzog Ave riding North
  17. I went to Amrican Classic's website and it seems as though the wheels Kiwi has will be compaitble with either Quick release or 15mm through axle
  18. In your case it does not matter whether the wheels are centre lock or 6 bolt. If you buy new wheels all you should be worried about regarding the rotors is that the size of the rotors on the new wheels are the same as the size rotors on the old wheels. If you want to keep your existing rotors on your new wheels, you would have to have rims with Centre lock hubs on. If you are keen on American Classic wheels you would require new rotors. You issue is not the brakes / rotors but the axle and fork setup. It looks like form the techsheet that your bike is making use of 15mm through axles so you would need a front wheel that has a hub that is compatible with that format. I think I have heard that some forks can either run 15mm through axle or quick relaese but my knowledge of 15 and 20mm through axles are not good, maybe someone else can shed some light. 19. . That stretch is crazy. I must be honest we are skipping it on our rides. We saw a jogger see his ar@# there last week. Now that was funny.
  20. I Think in the Toyota Pruis manual they state that you are allowed to wear flip flops, so that they can blame you if the accelerator gets stuck
  21. Franky It is funny not a few hours ago somone also joined the hub and started the blame game on the cyclists attacking the poor victims (coinsidence?). Fortunately that that thread was taken of off by the mods. Please start your own thread if you want to slate a dead person for doing something wrong like riding a bicylce on a public road. I think your comments are insensitive and totally uncalled for. I think you should take a look at the photographs of the crime scene http://www.diehoorn.co.za/2010/03/08/swart-maandag-na-drie-fietsryers-sterf/#more-2175 and you tell me considering a cyclists right to ride 1.5m from the verge, where were these cyclists supposed to have gone when car served out from behind the truck. Whether they were riding single file or two abreast.
  22. I see Grant came 35th in the ultra marathon on a single speed 29er. That is awesome. Grant if you read this well done mate.
  23. I Love the seat. Is that a steel frame?
  24. Here it is in action
  25. Cat-i. Maybe list your bikes components in detail, and then the weight weenies can tell you where you can save and how much it would cost
