  1. Went on Saturday on my Single speed and did the complete route 3 including all the extra detours i.e.single tracks detours (black arrows without a numbers on them) and got 43kms in total. Lots of new single track. Spoke to one of the course builders who told me that they are working on a further 10k's with the plan that route 3 will end up being 55km with at least half of it being single track. This comes off my Iphone:
  2. If you are looking for a an xtra large then this is a killer deal: https://www.bikehub.co.za/classifieds/31284-scott-scale-expert-29er-frame-price-drop/ Otherweise check out the carbon frames @ www.rapide.co.za
  3. Westdene cycles are doing good deals on Scott bikes
  4. I will not put anything less than 2.2 on the front with a rigid fork. You need that extra volume (your body will thank you for it). Make sure its tubeless as well to enable a tyre pressure of 1.8. The weight is a non issue, you are already saving more than a kilogram going to a rigid fork.
  5. I have heard a rumour that the OEM tyres on new bikes are not of the same quality as retail tyres. Apperently a cost issues and for weight purposes. Whats the first thing everyone does when shopping for bikes - they weigh them. So the rumour is that the bike companies put thinner lighter tyres on to ensure the bike attaines its claimed weight.
  6. Bought loads of stuff from him. Never had problems. I have always collected the stuff though. Maybe shipping takes a bit longer because it has to packaged better.
  7. I'm confused, where does it say that the driver was using a cell phone and or the moterbikers were riding recklessly?
  8. Did not do it but Grant Usher and Nic White did day 8 of Joburg2c (which is same as Sani day 2) in 4:26 on their single speeds. But they are machines.
  9. Very nice. Enjoy
  10. Thanks Thug Do you still have your Scandal?
  11. Is it this one that weighs 12.6. Thats quite a chunk of weight. Imangine what the weight would have been with all the geared bits on it. I see you also have the LX crankset on. Mine must be more than 5 years old. Came off a Merida geared bike. It has not given me one seconds trouble
  12. Hi Hairy, yes its carbon. I wanted a Niner fork but suppliers stuffed up the order and after eight weeks of waiting I received a lovely but useless tapered fork. Got this one from Grant. I think it is just as nice as the Niner fork but it is cheaper. The bike is not as ligtht as you would think. As it stands there it comes in just over 9kgs
  13. Here is my OnOne Scandal with its new Xlite fork installed
  14. The Momsen AL729. My friend bought one and it came in at about 11kg's including pedals. Which would take it under 11kg by normal weight standards (most bike weights are quoted excluding pedals). Even worse is one of my other friends bought the SL729 (the carbon one) and its only like 100grams lighter but R 5000 more expensive.
  15. How much weight did you save?
  16. Congrats Burry on the podium with a Third place
  17. I think you guys are not doing your sums correctly. Most of the builds discussed here, the guys had some of the parts are were buying used parts of the hub. I went through this exercise before i bought my Scott Scale pro. Lets use the Silverback Storm 1.0 as an example. One of my friends just bought one for R21000. I would like to see someone building it up for the same price. Lets try: Rapide 29 er frame (cheapest branded carbon frame in SA = R 7600 Full XT groupset including brakes (special on the hub) R7800 Decent wheelset Minimum R4500 Rock shox Sid or equivalent fork minimum R5000 Maxxis crossmark (ok these are not ust) x 2 so lets call it r250 each = R 500 The cockpit (people always underestimate this cost) conservativly R 2000 Getting a LBS to build it up (us normal non bike mechanics) R500 That gives a total of R28000. Then guys start talking Niner carbon frames. You can add another R5000 to the above costing. Dont get me wrong i love building a bike to my specs, but if you are on a tight budget you can not beat some of the deals to be had on new off the shelf carbon bikes.
  18. There are no weight limit on those wheels. I weigh 90kgs, no problems
  19. Hi HDp Maybe look at the DT SWiss XR29, There are quite a few sets of them floating around in the hub classifieds for excellent prices. i.e. https://www.bikehub.co.za/classifieds/25778-dt-swiss-29er-wheelset/ . They come off the Scott Scale Pro and expert. It looks like its the first thing people are upgrading on the Scott's but its purely a weight issue as far as I can ascertain, They apparently weigh between 1.8 and 1.9kg. I have a Scott Scale Pro and I have done about 1200km's on mine without any issues.
  20. Hi XTC1 I bought a carbon one. When it comes to buying stuff for a bike, emotions takes over and common sense flies out the back door. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the OnOne fork (it's given me nothing but pleasure) but just look at a Niner carbon fork, its a thing of beauty.
  21. I have just upgraded to a Rigid NIner fork and will be selling this OnOne carbon 29er fork. If you are interested make me an offer.
  22. To the OP. just stop next to track anywhere and make as if there is something wrong with your bike and check and see how many people will stop and ask if they can help. You will quickly see how friendly and helpful most riders are on the Spruit
  23. Re Janggabikes. I would steer clear of them as well. Its 4th April and they are still running one Day Christmas specials!!
