  1. Very sad news. Condolences to his family.
  2. Just saw the thread now. Sad sad news. Condolences to the family.
  3. Did my first 94.7 this year with my dad, what a privilege to be able to do this ride with him. I really enjoyed the day out. Prepared myself to get soaked but don't think there was a cloud in the sky while we were riding. Our goal was anything from 5 hours to 5h30mins but my dad started cramping on the Nelson Mandela bridge and we had to stop often at message points for him to get some treatment. Finished in 6h02mins if I can remember correctly. I at least achieved one of my goals of not walking on any of the uphill sections. I usually do about 200 to 250 m of climbing on my normal training rides. Not so many hills where I live. I can with honesty say that the 94.7 was up to now the toughest day I've experienced in the saddle but I enjoyed every second of it and will be there next year again. Might fit some skinny wheels on my 26er to make it a bit easier.
  4. Most of the people I know that travel to Cape Town for the CTCT make a holiday of it. Take week and half to two weeks off and enjoys a coastal holiday. Not too sure if there is any attractions in Joburg or the surrounds that will allow the same type of trip to the coastal folk.
  5. Entered for 3rd time. Lets see if I can get to the race for the first time.
  6. What really upsets me is the people mailing, sms'ing or whatsapp'ing to enquire about the availability of an item and after receiving a reply that it is still available, dead silence. I understand the message could have been sent in the spur of the moment but at least have the decency to reply that you aren't interested anymore.
  7. Respect for doing a 9min while commentating. I will not be able to have any form of conversation when taking on hills.
  8. I can do with some new tires. Done.
  9. I'm pretty sure you can get replacement axles for the pedals, or buy a secondhand pair of 520's here and put that axle in. Not sure but I think there is a special tool required to remove the axle from the body. I did watch a video of a 520 rebuild a while ago that can show you the how to do everything.
  10. I started out on 520's but wanted something with a bigger contact area between the shoe and the pedal. Tried a different brand for a while till I got myself the XT trails. Won't be changing pedals soon again. Great pedals.
  11. Not sure I would ever consider riding places like that, but nice video.
  12. Very sad. RIP.
  13. I would just like to mention the great service our company is receiving from the Anatomic store in Pretoria. Our HR department decided to change the suppliers we've been using for our cycling clothes and the service the lady at the Pretoria store has given our HR manager has been awesome. From what our HR manager has said she will recommend them anytime. Edit: Spelling
  14. I had a brain fart like that in the Lindani race today. Unfortunately it wasn't on nice soft grass like in the video but on a nice rocky section down the mountain.
  15. The Fox owner manual prescribes a bush inspection, oil change and changing of FLOAT fluid in chambers every 50 hours of riding.
  16. I'm 1.79 and on a medium 26" bike. Had a large before the medium and the medium frame feels like it handles a bit better, but that could be going from a hardtail to a duel suspension. Probably best to go and test ride a few bikes before you decide.
  17. Yeah, I have a ways to go before I'm seen as a contributor I guess.
  18. If I say it twice can I get double discount?

    DAMN!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  20. I rode the 30km last year and will most likely be there on Saturday to do the 30km again depending how I feel after this afternoons ride after I finally got the best of the cold that I had. Last year was a sufferfest for me but I got there unprepared and took a gel at the start and somehow lost the follow gels and my energy levels really low after about 15km's. The single track was very nice. There was two lekker technical rocky dropoffs that was fun if you didn't have someone walking it in front of you. It looks like they changed the route from last year to stay on the one side of the big dirt road so not sure how much single track will be there compared to last year. They built ablution facilities this year also so no portapotties. lol. If its not to far to drive I think its a must to ride. Loads of nice places to stay close by and a beautiful part of the country.
  21. I used Shimano 520's till about 4 months ago and switched over to Crankbrother Candies. I wanted something with a bit more contact between the shoe and the pedal. When Bicicletta had their clearance sale I couldn't help myself. The float from the CB's are nice aswell. I am very happy with the CB's and can't see myself changing to another brand quickly unless something major happens that destroys my confidence in the CB's. The Shimano's was a bit easier to get in and out of at first till I got used to the CB's. If you go with Shimano's be sure to set the cleat up to allow for the natural angle of the feet. Don't just put the cleats straight as that can result in knee pain over time. I had to play around with the position of the cleat aswell to find a comfortable fit. Hope this answers some of your questions.
  22. I think the easiest way to get a group would be to post on the Polokwane Pedallers Cycling Club Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/pages/PPCC-Polokwane-Pedallers-Cycling-Club/251495294910237 , they seem to be a very active club. or Mokopane Cycling Club Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/pages/Mokopane-Cycling-Club/281360352012338 is a new club that started a few months ago. There are a few road cyclists but only know the mtb riders. Hope this helps.
  23. I bought a Thule 9103 Clip on November last year for my December holiday down at the coast. Easy to mount and get off. Yes, you need to use pool noodles and straps to secure the bikes in place but didn't find that a problem. The point I'm trying to make is that without experience of previous use I mounted two mountain bikes on a Opel Corsa 1.4 Lite, drove from Limpopo province to Port Alfred with all the mountain ranges and winds and everything and the bikes didn't move an inch. To be honest, I would have liked to get the Saris Bones 3 but that was a bit out of my price range. Edit: Spelling.
