  1. The phantom niggles of every big taper are a real struggle, can't walk across a car park without feeling it...
  2. Maybe Specialised will make him a Special inhaler to coax him across to their brand...
  3. Torq ZOne is going up to provide race service support, maybe just phone them to sort one out.
  4. With the settings right my Suunto trainer(lower model than the sport) has lasted 13 hours logging a run. I was and am a Garmin fan still, but what you get for what you pay it just does not make sense especially with the warranty in SA, 3 free straps 2 hr monitor straps for the non wrist hr watches 5 batteries for the hr monitor straps, 5 services 1 charging cable Garmin has served me well but I honestly will need a lot of convincing to go back now. On the enduro bike the 401 and the etrex are still the best thing since sliced bread and the 401 is actually a great running watch for longer events because you can get like 36 hours off batteries and then just add new ones to carry on going instead of having to charge. My other big realization is that once you go to wrist HR you don't go back... sleep tracking, all day heart rates, never forgetting a strap, the only time it sucks is on the bike, but I have a strap for that at least now.
  5. 6K you can get a Suunto Spartan Sport, which has all the functions and a 5 year warranty http://www.suuntosa.co.za/registermysuunto/SuuntoSA%20Reg%20Benefits.pdf
  6. Ranking works as follow 1 Full teams full course 2 Full Team Short Course 3 Partial Team Full Course 4 Partial Team Partial Course So never leave a team mate behind, rather get all team members to the finish line and miss checkpoints
  7. Team 38 is short coursing so they are on the cycle just skipping CP28 so they are not lost. 49 and 22 are in big trouble bu thankfully they all have spot trackers if needed... The Russians have won, looks like Sani are powering towards the finish now with Omjakon chasing hard, this is going to be close. SHame Jabberwock has had a tough race and always a solid performance from them hey...
  8. Keyhealth Nevarest had a mare on that last hike, 31 hours for them where the fastest teams took less that half of that, they are chasing down the leaders with a power cycle now but the issue is now that Carla has ITB issues which is not ideal with the 59km trek ahead and there are not too many paths on that trek. The cycle seems to be uneventful for most of the teams, I think that they will no doubt be enjoying some respite before another monster trek. The leaders are going flat out up front, nearly half way through the trek already, Jabberwock and Sani Racing are really chasing hard at this stage still.
  9. so an update on the race... A few of the top SA teams are currently in striking range, although 2 of them are currently well off course on the hike. Shebeen is taking a low line to try slingshot past Jewbacca on this 200km cycle which took the fastest team 17 hours. The 3km long straight up the escarpment hike a bike section looked like good fun... .... naat...
  10. just a quick one, does anyone know how strict comrades entry people are, the substitute window is supposedly closed, and the person considering taking someone's entry it does not have a qualifying race(but is fit enough) do you think they will consider it?
  11. You don't need a tow hitch, hatch back racks are fine... Re the accident thing, got to love engineers building specific crumple zones and then us going screw that and adding a tow bar to counter it. On this note spare tyre note- Run Flat tyres, no no no nope never not a f***, if you ever see a car with runflat tyres in SA laugh at the owner and buy him a beer because his beer money most likely goes to buying new tyres once a month. Been there, done that, sold the T-shirt to pay for 4k a pop runflats after they bubbled because of dirt roads. Lets just say if I had never owned a car with runflat tyres, I would have the better part of 30k lying around...
  12. Small cars with tow hitches, no your little hatchback is not going to be towing anything worth towing all you are doing is providing people with something to ruin their shins on.
  13. Land Rovers with 'one life live it' stickers... Soft tails that only have space for one bottle cage... All mtb forks Teachers that give homework- you are allocated X hours per week to do your work, make it happen, I don't do half my job and then send the client home to do the rest every night, kids need afternoons to be kids... Roundabouts/circles where the number of lanes for the entrances and exits differ and the lack of education for people as to use them... Mercator Maps... Web Mercator projection... Most shopping center parking bays, no we don't all drive small cars... Ok I will control my hands again, they just realized it is Friday
  14. No more technical that the spruit, is is very chilled, certainly not like skyrun, Or convince her to run 100 and then pace her from half way for 'moral support'
  15. There I was thinking the earth is flat?
  16. There is always Karkloof 100 in Oct, the 50miler is pretty much same distance as Comrades... #Justsaying
  17. If you have OCD issues, never ever measure your house, ever.... I used to hang curtains as a side job in high school. the number of times the floor, window top, window bottom and ceiling were not aligned or perfectly horizontal is scary, very very few houses are square. My favorite party trick was to hang a curtain rail perfectly horizontal and then when the clients said no it was skew I would put a few different spirit levels on the rail and tell them look the house is skew...
  18. Super jealous about reunion hey, Hope you packed a strong enough towrope so Leo doesn't stretch it too far...
  19. Negative although I had many offers to race this year, work situation means I won't be on the line on Sunday unfortunately. Enjoy it lads, I will be on chief dot watching duty... For 359 days a year you have to be human, but for next week you get to be dirty, smelly, unkept animals and it will be the best week of the year... The sadist in me is super jealous of the cold, lack of sleep, constant pain you will be going through mainly because I know that for next week your mind will be totally free only worrying about constantly moving forward in the right direction. Start with this one-
  20. A lot play sports for smaller private schools, bit of a win win, the schools get extra numbers for sports and the Homeschool kids get some sports and interaction.
  21. oooooh anyone see the latest comment on the fb page? ***runs to find some popcorn****
