  1. There are bike shops that are making an effort to be more competitive with online shops and working on relationships. Other just keep thier bad attitude or dont need new customers. Some bike shops are even offering to be a portal for online orders. ie go to the shop with your money and they order on your behalf. Others order from cheaper distributers or import thier own products to remain competitive.
  2. And what we should all be using: Also about $12.00
  3. This is the analogue version for $12.00
  4. Nice. Congrats! I might have some white Hudz... What shifters are those?
  5. Detail Accurately measuring your chain's wear and replacing chains at the appropriate time is an important preventative maintenance step which results in longer life of expensive drivetrain components. Most manufacturers' chain wear indicators use crude mechanical gauges or simple go/no go indicators. But this digital wear indicator from chain manufacturer KMC allows precise and repeatable quantification of chain elongation. This durable stainless steel digital gauge is equipped with a large LCD display, on/off switch, mm/inch unit switch, and zero button. Chain elongation can be measured up to 2.5mm (0.1"). Included is an extra 1.5V battery and a micro screwdriver for removal of the battery cover. Along with the Digital Chain Checker, these are housed in a durable, foam filled plastic case. This tool is protected from defects in materials and manufacturing by a 1-year warranty. Use The KMC Digital Chain Checker operates with a stationary arm and a spring loaded, movable arm. To check chain wear, simply turn on the indicator, press the zero button, and insert tool between four links of the chain. The elongation will be clearly displayed on the unit. New, acceptable, and unacceptable wear levels are printed on the face of the tool for quick wear diagnosis. Price: $85.00
  6. I was about to ask why you didnt just buy from the cheaper shop in the first place.

  11. 'cos if you have a heavy bike, you have something to blame your performance on. i.e. you would do so much better if you had a lighter bike. Not to mention coffee shop and street cred... It's easier to spend money than to train hard.
  12. Hello Oom Chris I sent you an email about some Maxxis tyres. Time is running out - Father Christmas will be leaving for his whirlwind world trip soon...
  13. It seems that respect and common sense are sometimes in short supply here on The Hub.
  14. I seem to remember pics from not too long ago showing tied and soldered spokes. I think it was in the tech section on Cyclingnews.com when they did a feature on Paris Roubaix bikes. Seems quite old school. Google came up with this from CompetitiveCyclist.com. 'The wire does the work, and the solder keeps it in place. Why do we tie & solder? It hardens the wheels up in all dimensions. By tying & soldering them, it effectively increases the flange diameter of the hubs, increasing torsional stiffness. The interlaced crosses are locked together when you tie & solder them, which braces the spokes, making them laterally stiffer and more durable.' Cyclingnews.com Andre Greipel (Columbia-HTC) apparently feels the need for more stiffness in the rear wheel judging by the tied-and-soldered non-driveside spokes.
  15. Sidewall slash has more to do with rocks and terrain than you weight If you are only getting 73mm travel on your fork, you are either riding on flat roads, or have your air pressure too high.
  16. I also vote for the Monorail/Crossmark combo for dry conditions. They are made of quite a hard rubber, so last a while but are terrible when things get wet. They are far more robust than Conti tyres as well.
  17. I have the same thing. My legs twitch and throb My whole body zings with adrenalin and caffeine and sugar and excess energy drink/gel left overs.

  25. It depends on how long you are there for. Kevin (AKA the Pied Piper) leads a group ride from his shop @ about 6 out along the N2 where it usually splits at the Toll Gate. The bunch gets huge, so there is no hanging around and regrouping on the climbs etc. If you are not so confident on your climbing abilities, leave early and get to the top of the N2 at the Crags @ 6:30 and just tag onto the group as it comes past. Quite a few people do that. Some people turn back at the Toll Gate, while others carry on to Cold Stream, or turn off to Natures Valley or Bloukraans etc. Harkerville has one of the best trails in the country - The Red Route. Get your permit at the Garden of Eden forest, park across the road and ride from there. Awesome.
