  1. Coming from Pretoria the weekend cost me and my wife about R 15k. Since we make a little holiday out of it, it makes the costs bearable. Next year will probably be a bit cheaper thanks to Disco's flight booster. R 4k extra to spend on wine (after the ctct of course)
  2. More or less the same roads as carnival, R4S, Fast One and Emperors. Couldn't they got a slightly different route?
  3. He feels ashamed because our tax money pays for that trip
  4. I think Dale gave some pretty good advice. I changed to the LCHF lifestyle and dropped 19 kg's. I initially start with short easy rides and gradually increase the distance. Up to about 3h I could ride fasted with only water and for longer rides I took droëwors, nuts, date balls. For races I ate oats before and energy drinks and gel during. I suggests that you give yourself about 6 weeks and then start with short easy rides and see how your body reacts. Increase your distance every week and see how it goes.
  5. It's a training plan I received from a coach, but I do it on my own.
  6. Since I started training on the Wattbikes at VA according to a structured programme, my cycling improved dramatically.
  7. And you have to take the photo with a "no cycling" sign in the back ground. I didn't know there even where signs like these in Holland.
  8. Well, it's easier to apologise than to ask for permission. Very nice bike, congrats
  9. Good luck with that.
  10. You guys have me quite tempted to give this try. While we're on the topic of exercise and rest. Do you do strength training (legs) and spinning/ Cycling on alternate days or the same day? I used to do strength training on Mondays and Wednesdays and spinning on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Fridays are only upperbody and Saturdays are for long rides. I've read somewhere that you should do strength training and spinning on the same day, to give your legs a day to recover properly. I've tried earlier in the year for a couple of weeks, but it's quite tough to do a proper 90 min HIIT session and then strength training. your views please.
  11. very nice, where did get the bar tape? I love it
  12. Yip, very nice bikes Ice and Clinton. May you have many happy miles on them.
  13. The date is booked. Looking really forward to this.
  14. hehe, probably wanted to take a shortcut and took the wrong turn-off. Sometimes karma acts quickly
  15. The chances are very good that it will blow out by Sunday.......but it is just as good that it will pick up again before Sunday
  16. This is why I stopped cycling 3 months before the Argus. Good luck, I hope you heel up fast.
  17. I was there last year just before 5am to be at the front of my start group (1D). They weren't open yet- the auntie still gave orders to the other helpers- and only opened at about 5h10. I was quite upset because the guys from the harbour side already started to enter. It all depends where you want to be in your bunch. If you want to be in the front few rows, then I would suggest not later than 5h15. If you don't mind where you start in the bunch then I would still say that you should be there not later than 6h00. The problem is that people starting at anything from 8h00 till 10h00 are also there at 5h00 and that make getting into the holding area quite a mission.
  18. well in that case I hope that there's one hell of a storm on Saturday
  19. I saw your post before you edited it. Thank goodness it's incorrect.
  20. I always wanted to stop at this waterpoint at the CTCT and 94.7, but a PB is still my nuber 1 goal. In 2015 at the Argus lite, we made a fun ride of this and stopped at the Bar one point and made sure we've made up for all the previous times we've missed it. I think I/m good for another 3 or 4 years, hehe
  21. You can also just notify her at the last water point which is at top of Suikerbossie. From there it's about 25 to 30 mins to the finish. (expect if you find a "water point" along Campsbay, then it can easily take another 5 hours )
  22. strava knows everything
  23. exactly, I was in the front part of D bunch up until close to the top of smitswinkel - I think about 300 meter- when my chain dropped. The chain was stuck and I stuggle to get it back on. I've lost the whole group and ride the majority of that section between smits and scarborrough on my own. I've finished in 3h03. I'm pretty sure that I would have been able to stick with the bunch at least until the very top of Chappies and would have made my sub 3.
  24. There's another one this Saturday.
  25. Very unlikely. If there are a couple of strong okes with you, you might have a slim chance.
