New to Saldanha / Langebaan / JacobsBay and was wondering if there are any areas to be wary of? Safety wise, are there any bikejackings up here? (please say no) I ride exclusively on the road.
At the start, are our times started at the gun or after we cross the first mat? (Sure it's been answered before but I've missed it)
An interesting topic, my goal next year is to get my old man who just turned 65 a sub 3.
We plan to do 2 seeding events, he is getting a coach and there will be plenty of wheel sucking.
Sub 3 bike sorted already!!
His best CTCT out was 2 years ago on this bike 3:21 (his 21st Argus)
Scratching around in old topics and came across this. How did it go? (Interested as your dad is just a few years older than me)
Yes, i would say so (assuming good conditions, OK seeding etc), noting that the 20 min at 4W/KG is rather 4x5min or 5x4min with 5-8 min rest between them. If you can do 20min solid at 4W/kg, your FTP will be 3.8W/kg given that one way to test FTP is to ride at your max for 20 min and multiply by 0.95
Yes, I wasn't very clear.
Also interesting, the climbs dont really make or break the race.
Here is the comparison between the front of & group and @ group. The time was not gained on the climbs, but into the headwind.
So get into a group with a lot of Savages?
Thanks for the 'numbers' Braam and Andy. Realise its ballpark but it seems a FTP of about 3.2 w/kg and the ability to do about 20 min @ 4 w/kg will make a sub 3 very possible. Just keep out of the wind and don't fall over. This is encouraging, got the FTP sorted, 20m@4w/kg needs work....
We saw one crash into a MTB going UP suikers LOL
2nd lap I hope...
Wasn't it 1min starts last year too?
Was in 2A the two crashes I saw were both rider error.
Apparently wearing a Bora rainbowbstripe jersey will not give you saganic bike handling skills.
Were you in the Bora WC kit?
My number seems to have been printed on the wrong side. The backing is sticky but the printed side is not. I'll just have to ride incognito.
That sounds right? Stick the number on the little plastic board.
Anybody got an idea how big the groups are this year? The 1's and 2's.
And the first review of the expo goes to....
There are many many issues one could try take a stand against. Gov/corporate corruption etc etc but children getting murdered outside their homes on a monthly basis is just on another level.
Apparently what happened: The bakkie pulled out suddenly in front of a line of cyclists. The guys swerved to avoid the bakkie. Chris's front wheel clipped the rider in front of him and he went down heavily.
What a great change of tone.
Imagine the majority of riders wearing black arm bands and having a moment of silence for all gang related victims at the start. Doesn't anybody know someone in the organising committee who could be able to send an SMS out to all the participants?
We are all gatvol of the violence in our country.
I'll be wearing a black arm band, gatvol of criminals acting with impunity. (now how do you stream-line an armband, marginal gains and all...)
Yes.
Anyone know roughly how big the groups are this year? Would the 1 groups be the same size as the 2's?
Hope that Covid-19 doesn't pop up in CT before next Sunday...
Ride home and mow the lawn.
Apologizes if this has been covered: The 1A to 2A groups are leaving at 1 minute intervals. Is that normal? I can imagine some huge groups forming.
Damn, passed on the last day. Feel a bit like Laurent Fignon.
