    Sondela Bela Bela

Did the race on Saturday. Thought the new route was quite challenging (social rider). Very flat and too fast. Kept up with the leaders of the BL bunch for 30km (average 42km/h at that stage), then the pace got to me. New bunch formed from the dropped riders. I sat in front for about 10km with no one wanting to help setting the pace until a lady got fed up and told the other guys to help up front. I just smiled but it worked for a while, then I was alone in front again. Think I overcooked it and eventually got drop from the bunch. was in and out of small passing bunches till the end. Still happy with my time despite having had very bad cold 2 weeks ago. 6km from the finish. there was a bad crash. It was a bunch I joined up with, but fortunately got dropped from just before they crashed. Well done to the organizers. Much better than last year
  3. Malori in Pienk?
  4. Rubiano win stage
  5. RIP This is so sad
  6. I had a shot, wife not. She had flu over easter, me not
  7. Had my shot on Thursday with no side effects but also have been taking it for ......years. Before I started taking it, I use to get flu about 3 times during the winter and worst of all, in January. I dont even get a cold during winter months since taking the injection. (not that the injection prevents colds btw), just saying
  8. He had to dust if off at some stage before the fun ride
  9. According to my age mine should be max 170. If I have to keep it below that, I might as well stop cycling. My average is 170 - 185 depending on the kind of race (flat or hilly) At R4S my max was 228!!!

    Argus Expo

Did not enjoy it at all. 1. battled to get parking. Found parking and was in for a 10min walk back to the venue. 2. Cops issued fines and did not attend to the traffic jams 3. The organisers should find a new venue. It was over crowded and not pleasant at all. Got our numbers and headed back to the car. Took me 1.5 hours to just collect a number and this excludes driving time.
  11. Works for me and it is much cheaper at Dischem
  12. Arrived safely in Stellenbosch. Had a near disaster experience at Tousrivier. Stopped to fill up with diesel. The next thing I see is the unleaded pipe in my car. Fortunately only 3.5l of unleaded petrol in the tank. Got hold of Mercedez in Stellies whom assured me that it would not be a problem if I filled up the tank with diesel (45l) Thus far car seems to be fine.
  13. It cost me a fortune to get my son through university to obtain his honours degree Biokenetics. Thats all I know.
  14. RIP. Strongs to the family
  15. And all I want to do is cycle in races. Now the politics have taken over cycling as well. CSA wil go the same way as athletics. Bankrupt within a year of being associated with SASCOC.
  16. Thanks for a well organised event.

    Ride for Sight

Had a good race from EL. One moron in the bunch had the courage to go over the white line and wave to oncoming traffic to make way for him. This happened a few time. He did not have a number and clothes looked like a smartie box. Alan van Heerden shirt and Cycleboys bib. Nearly came off at 45km/h when a rider with a VP number passed on the left of me between myself and another rider. He clipped my handle bars but fortunately I managed to keep my balance. All I got was 'sorry' Sorry se gat , moron Thanks for a well organised race
  18. I was seeded to start in DL group but started with my son in IL group. This was his secong 100km race. Last week at the fast one he overcooked it in the first 40km and cramped badly. I started with him to pace him and help him to ride in bunches. Know what, ended up doing all the work on the front because for some or other reason if you start in lower groups, everybody wants to wheelsuck you. Did not realy mind as I did the race as a training ride with him and he managed a not to bad time.
  19. The race organisers did a good job, BUT how do they get the distance wrong every year. Also had it as 104km
  20. The accident I saw looked quite serious. Guy was strapped onto stretcher when I passed. It was on the stretch of road after the casino. Other than that I saw no other accidents. Plenty of punctures, same as last week.
