  1. The magicshine type lights are the best value for money and the easiest to get hold of. There's so many of them around that you almost do not have any other choice. I like Exposure lights. They are light and more the enough light for me with very good battery life. No hassles with batteries and wires and can be used as a torch as well. The downside, they are quite expensive and you will have to buy it from Evans cycles or Chain reaction cycles. It also mounts very nicely between the helmet and the handlebars, which I like.
  2. I agree 1000%. Way more important. Unfortunately we do not have high quality back lights in this country, and the once really worth it, just gets so expensive.
  3. I am not justifying it I am saying that I can think of a reason Have you cycled on Bottelary recently at that time of day, have you noticed that you cannot see a thing with the sunrise at that time of day? Again, I am not justifying, just saying that I can think of a reason. IT IS STILL A HUGE TRAGEDY
  4. "Motorists have NO excuses for knocking over cyclists..." I can actually think of quite a few
  5. O honestly feel we should stop worrying about the motorists. We put so much effort into what they are doing wrong, and it is a real fued, where, because we feel we have just as much right on the road, some of us will be "spitefull". Focus on being safe, we have all been through this, ride in single file, bla bla bla. I honestly cannot see motorists changing there attitude. 2 wheels will never beat 4 wheels.
  6. Hi all There are so many of these type of online fitness sites, what do one use. Are there a difference between all of these or is it horses for courses.
  7. I agree 100% Until we start taking it upon ourselves to respect motorist, we will always be second. No campaign in the world will change a drivers perception.
  8. Regarding the Nespresso pods, I tried some of the Nespresso in my CafeLux machine (Nespresso "Rip Off"). Try Vida's pods, although slightly expensive, it is an alternative. I am pretty much fixed unto the CafeLux pods you buy at Shoprite Checkers, at R39,99 for 10 pods it is good coffee, according to my taste.
  9. They did say that they are open to KE racing with someone else, internationally, but it will be difficult with sponsors etc. I am glad for KE and it is good that he is racing for a true South African team. I think, even though he want to win the Epic, he probably have 2 more years in him, why not start building a proper MTB team. BS said that they will be targeting internationally stage races as well and that can only be good. Let's watch this space, I think it is exciting. Also, remember that the Epic is theoretically a "small" part of the season, so the MTN Marathon series and other races are also there for exposure.
  10. Would it be possible vir KE, no matter who he rides with, to ride under his bicycle shop name? With Scott bikes? He has probably another 2, maybe 3 Epics in him, so why nog give you shop some exposure for the future?
  11. I think Reid is to young to mount a challenge at winning it? Sure he will perform well, but maybe not good enough yet?
  12. I know there are people that does not buy into Kevin Evans, and would much rather like to see the Stander/Sausser/Specialized combination keep on winning the Epic, but I also think, if you are South African, deep down, you must feel for KE, wanting to win the Epic so very dearly. In light of what has happened the last 2 weeks with Dave George, can we speculate what KE will do next year, being left without a sponsor and teammate. What do you guys recon can happen. KE teams up with Max Knox for Spez KE gets a ride with Brandon Stewart of Fedgroup/Itech KE makes emergency call to Alban Lakata and get a sponsor like RE:CM, Momentum or even Cyclelab KE says enough is enough an just leaves the whole thing. Any views?
  13. According to twitter feeds David George admitted to taking EPO
  14. The fact that they say EPO stays in the blood for 6 - 12 hours almost makes me believe that the guys use it in any case. It was out of season, maybe there was a reason why they did not really compete all year round? This is really very very very sad. I really hope Kevin is clean and had nothing to do with it. I don't even want to imagine what he must feel like now!
  15. Derailleur hanger, bombs, multi tool, chain link, chain breaker, plugs (if you have tubeless, if not a tube), maybe a bank bag with extra energy mix powder, if you like eating between water tables, a muffin of banana, or whatever it is you want to eat. You will get some things at the water tables, so maybe only cater for "eats" up until the first water table. sense of humor/race face, depending on what you want to achieve O yes, don't forget your partner ;-)
  16. Ok, was just wondering, where can one get the full report
  17. So, the reason energy drinks change in taste is if they have "whey protein peptides" in the mixture. It happens due to the change in temperature and also because the bottle are closed and the volatile compounds cannot escape. So, although the taste change, it will still be safe to drink and do it's job, it just doesn't taste as good anymore. This is the best explanation I have heard, from the product developer at PVM. Kudos for not "lying" about the fact that the taste change and that she explained it properly on why it happens.
  18. Just a question, did anybody actually see him use drugs, or did he just "demand" that everybody on his team used drug and gave it to them?
  19. Getting back to the original question though, are you guys saying that it is just me then that experience a difference in taste after 3 hours, taking into account that I only mix it before the ride and not the night before?
  20. I know about the 32GI, and I've tried it before. Cannot really say anything bad about it, my training partner actually converted. However, from what I understand, reading about it on this forum, it does become a slight science when you use it. Because it is a low GI drink, anything that will cause you GI to spike, pretty much mess up the system, for me that means to really take not of what you eat before the ride, during the ride and even when you make a quick pit stop for coffee. Just a personal thing, but should maybe give it a try again.
  21. Hi all I am curios to know if there is anyone else out there that can tell me if they experience a change in the taste of their energy drinks, while doing long rides. One example is PVM, I used it for about a year, did the Trans Baviaans with it as well as the Wines 2 Whales last year. One thing that always bugged me was that while doing long rides, it did not taste so nice anymore, I am talking 4 hour plus rides year. Reading some posts previously, it was suggested once that because it is more natural, no preservatives, that sort of thing will happen. I sort of accepted it at the time and thought, well, that is the healthy choice. This year I started looking around again, and decided to try Enduren. After speaking to the suppliers, they told me that there will be no change in taste, and it is very natural. I went out a bout a tub, used it for the last month, and, true to form, no change in taste. On Friday it was time to stock up again, and I decided I will try Cadence, something I used in the past, but then shifted to PVM. I did my first long ride with Cadence on Satruday and, again, after 2.5 hours of riding, started using the second bottle, and there we go, we had a little offish taste. By the time I got home, I literally could not stomach it, even for a little recovery drink. I questioned this today, and it was suggested that it could be the fact that it tastes differently when cold vs when war, or, that the detergent in my water bottle changed the taste of the drink. I do not want to go on a witch hunt with the manufacturers, but I would like to know if I am the only that experience this sort of problem, because then I need to rectify it and clean my bottles better, or something. Could you guys please comment.
  22. How many of the big race winners would have "lost" on a 26'er?
  23. We will never know!
  24. And the hubs compared to the Mavics?
  25. Are the havens to heavier, I do mainly Cross Country?
