  1. Me thinks I must come visit and join you on one or two bike rides.
  2. Super good news. Welcome back.
  3. Added that to my cycling bucket list thank you.
  4. Very difficult for an outsider to comment HonkDonk and this is something I won't be able to give advice on. But good co-worker of mine had a similar thing many years ago. He has a daughter from a previous relationship when the ex approached him and said she wanted to move to the UK. They got a deal as he thought it would be better for his daughter to grow up in England. But part of the deal was that the ex contractually commited to sending the daughter to SA once a year for a month during the summer holidays.
  5. That is cool. Will look if we can buy on amazon.
  6. Love that spot. On our last family holiday in Cape Town before we left for Germany we took a detour back to Gauteng via Cape Aghulas.
  7. Or a salt coated thumpnail.
  8. I was there last week. Beautifull area that. I was there in winter and now in summer. Next round going there in Autums when the leaves look like this. Just an hour drive from us. Still want to do a bike ride to there.
  9. In most group rides that I rode with I enden up with more problems with other road users than riding with a small group with no support vehicle. The vehicle as you say normally sticks with the slowest rider, so the riders way up the road normally end up with the aggression of the motorists that battle to pass. It is nice to have technical support and a vehicle close by to keep the water cool, etc. But to answer your question I would rather ride without one and also avoid big group rides.
  10. If I knew two weeks ago I would have been able to help you. BIL was visiting us last week. Could have had it delivered to my house and sent it with him.
  11. Last year I had two wipe outs and one collision during my commutes. I was lucky that I had no roasties but can say that I think being in my mid 40's that planet earth got less forgiving. In the two wipe outs (one on ice and the other on muddy road service) I hit the deck so quick and hard. Body was sore for a couple of days. My count this year (touch wood) is still on 0.
  12. Stunning day in Munich today.
  13. Ek dink die naaste is "Aag F.."
  14. Not sure if it is in SA? Here in Europe it is like that but then there would be no traffic sign at the intersection as well as you should aply the rule as you said.
  15. FFS = VFS? Vir F** sake?
  16. Where is the rest of your post count?
  17. Welcome.
  18. I only wear rain jackets when it is fairly cool to cold as otherwise I get more wet sweating than getting wet from the rain. I do pull over rain covers over the shoes just to protect the shoes from dirt but in heavy rain they still get wet. We have had our fair share of thunderstorms in the afternoons the last couple of weeks and must say that it is actually very pleasant to ride in the rain. Just the first couple of kilometers in the city is a bit stressfull as braking distances is a problem but as soon as I head out of town then I can relax.
  19. Had some family visiting us from SA and the kids really wanted them to swim in Lake Achen. We have 5 seats in the car but we were six. No problem. I'll take the economy class ticket to Lake Achen on the bike. A nice 156 km of riding with a fun day out with the family. Works for me.
  20. Yip, just as dangerous as not tying your shoe laces.
  21. Swift while you work. Does that count as a commute?
  22. Used to do that. But nowadays as the sun is up early I leave earlier to meet some other guys for a group commute to work. So now I have to get up earlier while the missus still sleeps. Experience teaches you that you can have world peace if you don't wake a sleeping lion
  23. Well they are waterproof for sure. Been commuting in heavy rain the last couple of weeks and no problems
