  1. Nice pics and well done to all the organizers involved in making this winter league possible - next step is to do the same in summer - racing with respectable prize money! The R200 a race win at PPA events is really showing the die hard racing guys (even wanting to race in conditions like today) zero respect.
  2. Just put some extra cash in my pocket - as I cannot race (broken collar boken 3 weeks back only back on bike for 4 days now) - if condition safe lets make the main race a bit more exciting by throwing in a few primes maybe extra prize money for a higher avg speeds! Need to ride the course at least once to see what I feel would be a challenging yet possible avg speed! Hope the organizers accept cash race bonuses from spectators - this often happens at Crits in Belgium!

  7. The above pic was a bike made in RSA and current hour record of 56.375 Km/h was done on it! Chris Boardman think it was 1997!

  11. More on bikes in the K53 learners system. Also remember their are more and more bicycles on the road every year (I been riding for 31 years - so honestly can say this) - so the question needs to be asked are as % of cyclist more been involved in accidents? I will be the 1st to admit I would prefer to see no accidents and to this end I was even with a public prosecutor on Friday after pressing my 1st charge against another vehicle in 31 years. Basically after been put in a corner by the prosecutor (who alway said if you wanna still go to court you can) I got an apology from the driver of the other vehicle - so either on a cycle you are very badly injured or dead or if another vehicle endangers your life while braking laws (more than one) and you take it further you can expect an apology! This past Sat I was involved in a cycle accident - and I don't think we as cyclist even know how vulnerable we really are let alone motorist! My accident did not directly involved a car but their had been a car crash their earlier in the day I have been told. Hit some oil and in no time lost control / front wheel - 1 x broken collar bone! Latter in the day I know of at least 1 more accident at the same spot with a motor cycle!
  12. Please make suggestions in this poll https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/122825-ppa-how-much-funding-should-the-association-retain-annually-ie-not-spend-on-cycling/
  13. Yup so who is the 1.5m gap a concession for motorist or cyclist? Currently my understanding is 1 vehicle overtaking another vehicle should do so in a separate lane and a dotted line. Please explain why it referred to as passing a cyclist (vehicle by law on RSA roads) and not overtaking! Cyclist should ask for proper law enforcement of the current rules not amendments for change which even offers more concessions to motorist out of cyclist consideration (and obeying the 1st rule of the road for vehicle - staying as far left as possible in RSA)! Last year cyclist in Ct were fined for going down main road Kalk Bay onto oncoming traffic while it was a 1 way. Yet I never once saw a cop on boy's drive giving motorist a fine for crossing a solid barrier line while passing / overtaking a cyclist on the steep section of road out of Kalk Bay where the only safe thing to do was to wait for the cyclist to get to the top of that section of road!
  14. RIP Burry.
  15. So its 3 min on each side on a flame not coals - is he using Jimmy's or Lappies sauce now?
  16. Some people are rude - Cyclist are people - thus some cyclist are rude! Some people are inconsiderate ( take a look at the 10 items or less Q at P'nP today or any other day) - Motorist are people - thus some motorist are inconsiderate!
  17. Not quite today but 21/12/2012 the end of the world looks good! Heading towards Cape Point. http://sphotos-a.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/c0.0.403.403/p403x403/598343_10151362595450310_297695245_n.jpg
  18. Nice name!
  19. Perfect day In CT today for a nice little 100Km cycle round Cape Point - thats what I am about to go do - SPF 40 on already! I do have further comment and analogies, but hey with weather like this I am going cycling - thats what I love to do! The PRO cyclist have always been the pawns in the equation!
  20. Ok hubber - I know this comment is not really welcome here and I have not read the full tread - but at any rate: 1. I went to school with David George (DG) and then he stared cycling! 2. I help him a bit, been the older here, we talking the 80ies! 3. What you guys don't know I pleaded with Lawrence Whittaker (PPA chairman at the time) to allowed DG to ride with the A group in a local fun ride to prove himself - needless to say he won he event, off the top of my head, he broke away at the start of the event which then went straight up Constantia Nek too win the event. His 1st proper race round Rondebosch common UCT circuit race - he came 4th ( again off the top of my head). 4. He then went a bit into the recumbent scene! 5. The following year I distinctly remember telling him to wake up in a Giro del Capo stage where on Visserhoek I was coming past him at which point he did! Alan van Heerden won the stage and DG was way ahead of me and not loosing to much time on GC. He was then still a teenager / early 20 year old - I Cannot remember! 6. I was one off two people (Willie Engelbrecht and myself) to witness 1st hand ( his service car) his ride in the 97 world championship San Sebastian world championships - I have no doubt to believe this was done on been trained properly and nothing to do with substance abuse! 7. Unfortunately I was witness to him been lead astray with US postal ( but with all due respect this is a UCI problem not a DG problem) which to a degree ended our friendship. David George was always an exceptionally talented cyclist way before he was introduced to a US postal program - whatever you Hubbers say you (99.9%) cannot claim to be that talented and dedicated to the sport of cycling. What DG has done was wrong or equal to what his fellow well most competitor were doing at the time - He was been " professional" Who the F..K are you to judge (and this by no means am I condoning what has happened in cycling / DG over the past number of year) or are you too hight on something? Yes I too am frustrated with the situation but don't isolate 1 person(s) it is the governing body at fault! People end up doing what they have to do - you too are probably no different. You guys really do not know what was going down in the the late 90ies and the up until very recently! I can assure you I am a victim of this because of my principles - but to choose to judge people is also against my principles ( that for God to do) - yup DG and myself are only two of four cyclist to have done 3 sub 2h30 Cape Argus Pick 'n Pay cycle tour - I know I have done mine 100% clean - how many have you done in what ever state? Stop judging - it just not worth it - you too I can assure you are also guilty of something! http://sphotos-c.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/s480x480/16028_10151339307630310_194739080_n.jpg
  21. If you want a refund as PPA does not pay you CSA license anymore go vote on this Poll https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/122825-ppa-how-much-funding-should-the-association-retain-annually-ie-not-spend-on-cycling/
  22. Why is the car (in the pic) not been fined for overtaking on a solid white line? The motorist is been illegal yet nothing is done about that or when pedestrian J walk etc! Actually I like the law that cyclist maybe fined for going through red robot or riding a breast - as with all due respect only law enforcement officer should be trying to enforce this - so due to the lack these officers - it now basically is legal to do as you probably will never be caught! So when a fellow road user asked why did you break that rule simple reply are you a law enforcement officer if not I don't need to answer to you esp. as you overtaking me on a solid white line! haha I know I probably should NOT have written that! But considering we the only countries in the world where it is illegal to ride a 2 breast and while other countries are changing the rules of the road to allow cyclist to legally go through red robot I figured it was worth say - SA get with what the rest of the world is doing - probably because it just more sensible! http://www.iol.co.za/polopoly_fs/motorist-and-cyclist-1.1435040%21/image/376040249.jpg_gen/derivatives/box_300/376040249.jpg
  23. But does not mean PPA could not have been pro active to have made a plan B and organize events in the Northern suburb - even now their is still (just) enough time to do this if they really wanted to serve the ROAD cycling community instead of just take 50% of the profits (millions per annum) of the Cape Argus Pick 'n Pay ROAD cycle tour and use it on other ares than ROAD cycling including a large reserve fund!
  24. I sure this added birthday presant Doug will enjoy - been his birthday week!
