  1. Agree....although I've narrowed it down to English speaking countries (the ones I've visited). Back home, Ireland (if you can find cyclists to ride with ) etc. the whole idea of dropping in with a group is quite alien as we have noticed in the posts above. As back home, people in Ireland either pass you or just don't join in. Then again it's also very clannish here in certain areas, so it could be that fact. I was recently in Italy and there you could get groups of 60 riders from all different clubs riding together. If you get caught by a group or catch a group you just jump in. Now, I didn't do it the first time I found a group as I wasn't sure too of the "protocol" but later on a guy said to me to just join in any group.
  2. Think it's the Yank spelling (??)
  3. McGees threshold is 195-205 ??? If that is correct then what's his Max HR? I think those number might be a bit wrong....BikeMax ?
  4. yep. He trains a lot on feel and I think he still largely ignores his trainers suggestions. The gadgets are good but one should never underestimates one's intincts.
  5. and another Heart rate training is not worth the money you spend on a HR monitor
  6. HR is useless anyway ;-) ops..another can of worms opened up!!
  7. funnily enough it's usually 50 - 50 or VERY close to that. Coincidence ?? I think not.
  8. Very interesting reading. wonder what a psychologist would make of this thread....
  9. http://www.cyclinginfo.net/upload_folder/Kelly.jpg This guy rode with us for free yesterday and hung around to chat to everyone. ok ok not entirely for free...he won the Vets section and got a nice hamper of goodies!!
  10. you guys training for the Tour or what ?? The biggest problem most people have, is keeping up with a bunch so surely you should be concentrating on how to STAY with the bunch. E.g. as BieMax says, quality. Of course you need a base but 6 x 4 hours for 6 weeks!! You'll all be gatvol of cycling by week 2......
  11. and you can't use it on your indoor trainer and still quite a few questions about it. it works on air flow so anything impeding / influencing the air flow will affect the accuracy of the power readout.
  12. The quality of the carbon is probaly not the same either.
  13. That's the Cliffs of Moher Nice place if you're ever in this part of the world. I took pics LYING DOWN on that flat piece..not sure about riding it on a bike!
  14. this link may be of interest http://www.salite.ch/ Facts on over 8000 climbs (all in Europe for now) and great to compare some you may have done with others you'd (dis)like to do.
  15. The only issue that I've heard so far with Ergomo is that it only picks up data from the left crank (where the flex is) and IF you have a considerable leg discrepency it can affect the data, but from what I hear it's not a big issue at all. I was looking at this first up but still think the Power Tap is the one to go for. Enjoy testing it!
  16. Well, they have to agree to be tested by various test etc.. They have to agree that they can only be looked after by doctors from one place (university in Germany I think) . Some of the tests include a blood volume test which by the sound of it will be adopted by WADA as well. It SEEMS like they're very serious (they fired all the management and brought in new people). The point is that the riders have to agree to be tested with whatever test the team says and at any time the team says before talks of contract even start. I'm trying to see this as a positive thing. Hopefully it is.
  17. maybe, but from what I've read (especially from the young riders) there isless and less tolerance for doping. T-Mobile's new contract is extremely tight and riders first have to agree to their testing procedures before any talk to the rider's mangers begins. I'm HOPING that this IS the start of change...........who knows.
