  1. WELL SAID!!!!!!! WITH YOU 99% THE OTHER 1% IS WHERE I USE MY IPOD ON THE IDT. It`s a time to break away from the music when one is out on the mountain.
  2. Its just gonna get worse as they are cutting down all the pine trees! I`m not gonna renew my Wild card due to this crisis! Rather spend the extra money and go ride at Lebanon, Oak Valley, Jonkershoek, Contermanskloof, etc. They never consulted anyone, they just started cutting. So the sand will get worse due to soil erosion and due to the fact that there are no trees to shelter the sand blowing around! The sand is getting blown from above the Saddle (Cross-roads - Silvermine/Tarmac road paths) all the way down to the main single track! Tokai has awesome single/jeep track but I think its gonna get worse.
  3. I agree, people are too quick to compare LBS, Buycycle or CWC to CRC, without working out the TOTAL cost and NOT solely the price listed for the item! Delivery: (Post Office or Door-Door) depends on size of parcel Import Duty: Normally 14% So one must remember when purchasing goods from CRC the following equation must be noted: Goods_____ + Delivery Fee_____ = Total payed to CRC + Import Duty (Once arrives in Town/City) For eg: Rockshox SID Race R5500 + R450 (Door-Door Delivery) = R5950 + R833(Import duty 14%) = TOTAL of R6783
  4. It was clearly a Cannondale Flash (Hardtail) with a normal fork. Watch it again and see.
  5. Have to totally agree with you. I come from a MTB background, +-6 years. I recently bought a cheap road bike for the Argus and to improve my MTB riding. I have noticed that you get these looks from Roadies which dont greet, they kind of look u up and down, check the bike, then carry on riding. My philosophy is Roadies = looks first, fitness second MTB = fitness first, looks second. This is so true on a Saturday/Sunday morning in Camps Bay where all these charlies park there road bikes against poles just outside a Coffee shop. They are all posers! They want everybody to check there bikes out! They all wanna be LANCE/AC,etc. MTB`ers are just more friendlier!
  6. What I found very interesting is that Max Knox ,Jacques Janse Van Rensburg & Brandon Stewart (DCM/Mazda Team) all ride the carbon Cannondale Flash. However under closer inspection on the 2010 Cape Pioneer trek when the stages got more technical and very rocky they were riding with a FOX/Rockshox fork? (Normal fork) Now why would this be? My only suggestion is that in very rocky/technical terrain this wheel could get ripped off the hub, which I have seen happen in Tokai! Being a 29er this is more likely to happen as the 29er wheel is not as stiff as a 26er! Really cool to look at though! So not for me!
  7. Where did you get these from as I was forced to buy the South African kuk looking S-Works MTB shoe? LBS said Specialized don`t bring these in?
  8. Have Polar S725X, used it for 4 years. Picked up a Garmin Edge 305 for R900 with a faulty battery. The unit was out of warranty so therefore replaced it with a Nokia battery. Works like a charm! They are both great devices. The only function that interested me in the Garmin was the gps logging. I can therefore go back to the exact point after the race where my HR was say 95%, then scroll across to see exactly where it was on the map/google earth. There are two points to weigh up between Polar and Garmin when it comes to logging your data. Polar: +-8hrs if logs every 5sec. +-22 hrs if logs every 15sec. 99hrs if logs every 60sec. (Also depends on accessories; cadence sensor, power meter, speed sensor. etc) Therefore this can be used for a multistage race, depending on how long the race is the appropriate setting needs to be selected from the above options. (For example: 3 day stage race, 6 hrs in the saddle per day x 3 days = 18 hrs) Therefore the record mode needs to be set to log every 15sec. OR (5 day stage race @ 6 hrs/day = 30hrs, therefore data would need to be logged every 60sec. Now, alot can happen to your data every 15sec or 60sec! Ascent, speed and cadence would jump every 15 to 60sec when reviewing it on your PC. Garmin: Logs data every 3 seconds on smart recording. Battery life is around 10-12hrs. Therefore all that would need to be done on the above mentioned multi-stage races is to charge the unit! You can then also see the actual route ridden on Google earth. This all depends on what Polar you are using as the new RS800CX can be used with the optional GPS accessory. However, the data is logged at the identical increments (5sec, 15sec, 60sec) So either charge your Garmin unit 3 times in the long multi-stage race or change the logged data on your Polar accordingly. Simpler terms; you would have very accurate data (Garmin) vs not so accurate/delayed (Polar) My 2cents worth
  9. simple, fastbike = loser! brighter lights = too frickin expensive! can buy 4 magic lights for price of one brighter lights! can't justify spending so much money on lights when I only do one or two night rides a week and seeing that there are only two 24hr events in a year!
  10. Deer Park = Back of Table Mountain Contermanskloof/Hillcrest/Majic forest = Durbanville (Apparently there is around 100km of riding which can be done between Contermanskloof, Hillcrest & Majikforest!)
  11. Have been riding with tubuless rims and UST tyres for two years now. I use the same rims for race/training. I have only had two problems, which has luckily been in my training rides. First occasion the tyre got a cut. Second occasion very similar but more my own fault by running on very smooth-ish tyres!
  12. Table Mountain, Deer Park & Durbanville area are also not bad. Can send you loads of Garmin files as where to ride in Tokai. Also have trails from Oak Valley, Jonkershoek, Contermans Kloof, Hillcrest.
  13. Is there one stuck up there??
  14. You stay near by? Lucky man! Rode there on Saturday, awesome trails!
  15. Just get setup properly!
  16. Here mine is. Only upgrade left for the new year are the rims! http://i672.photobucket.com/albums/vv90/david16v/Giant-1.jpg

  21. Sleep pattern? Are you getting enough rest? Are you on your legs the whole day @ work? Eating correctly? Can be a number of reasons. If you are ok with all the above then prob over training! Lay of the bike for 1 full week. Keep your feet up!
  22. did you know that car batteries can explode when being charged? you dont see certain manufacturers slating each other about these issues!
  23. ya, to show everyone who comes across this topic, that it is pointless!
