  1. That new climb trail is proper class and soon it will have lots of coverage. I'm the same with Never Ending.
  2. That's quite interesting coz Whistler is open. I suppose it's easier to enforce social distancing etc in a non race environment. And probably no international visitors are there.
  3. Is Kirstenbosch also closed for cards? I suppose they would be hey.
  4. Even when you say go to **** shop and buy ***** it doesn't work coz some ken alles salesman will try sell her something completely different. Or she'll walk out in frustration coz they were more interested in Tik Tok than making sales.
  5. I've seen a design that is basically a super sized skateboard. You mount the trucks to a piece of plywood (Think giant skateboard) and you run the trucks inside a set of simple wooden rails with stoppers. This gives the side to side motion and the back and forth motion.
  6. Mmm. Interesting question. I do think you have a solid point there. A motocross bike from 2010 looks contemporary and can still tear your arms out of their sockets whereas a 10 year old MTB really does look ancient.
  7. Same. The first thing people pull out of their erses is economies of scale. I call bullcrap on that. All of the components are mass produced in the east in batches of tens of thousands. I always look at Motocross bikes when comparing pricing to MTB's. Similar customer base ITO earnings. Also subject to currency fluctuation. Similar lack of road application so it's a toy. A 2020 Kawasaki KX450 F will cost you R120k Amazing suspension, Electric Start etc etc. If we want to go more exotic a KTM 450 arm schredder is CHEAPER than the Kawasaki at 112k. Brembo brakes. Hydraulic clutch. Electric start. My theory is twofold. 1. There are too many bit players and "niche" manufacturers skewing the perception of value. There are also manufacturers that a most certainly NOT niche but hang on grimly to that model. Santa Cruz spring to mind 2. The industry is upside down. The component makers call the shots. Not the bike manufacturers. In the motorcycle industry the big players own the component brand. E.g. Nissin brakes is owned by Kawasaki. Kayaba and Showa are owned by Honda.
  8. Note to self. Never make friends with anyone named Robbie
  9. Went for a little jog this morning. Lots of runners and riders out. Very cool to see. I think the approaching lockdown level 5 storm rapidly approaching might have had something to do with it.
  10. Ok I can't hold it in anymore. Theo Erlangsen has been invited to Red Bull Hardline. He sent me a screenshot of the email from Rob Warner. I'm a huge Theo fan. And this invite is well deserved in my opinion.
  11. I wonder what the TCR disc weighs in at. the top end one supposedly comes in at 6.5kg but thats $11000.
  12. I had endless issues with BT and my Zwift setup. HR monitor found but I'm dead. No HR monitor. etc etc etc. Until one day a Windows update killed BT completely on 2 laptops. Got an ANT+ dongle and the problem instantly went away. @the OP. Is that a brand new bike? have you lubed the chain? Might be as simple as that?
  13. Is it a disk bike?
  14. Don't you have loved ones that would notice your absence?
  15. No points for guessing who took my pic. hehe
  16. Bit o this on Saturday.
  17. OMG!! Ok then my issue was luxurious. I gapped into the bushes next to the 12 apostles hotel. A fast running stream and a pair of cheap socks provided all the comforts of home. Thanks for allowing me to share my trauma without judgement. They say champions are made on the tough days.
  18. So a few weeks ago I bought new shoes from the sweat shop in Claremont. I kept rolling my ankle running in my Adidas trail running shoes. Since buying my stability shoes touch wood I've had no issues. My other half and I are doing two 6k runs and one 8k a week so hardly headed for Boston marahon glory but it's a start. She's been complaining about sore feet for the last few weeks so we headed off to the Sweatshop again for hopefully a new insole or something for her. The salesguy had her taped from the second we walked in. He stood her on that machine that measures your feet. Had her run up and down a bit and pulled out a pair of Rose Gold Asics Gel Nimbus for her to try on. SOLD! She's super happy and she had to wait 10 minutes for me on our 8k run on Saturday.
  19. Sorry for the uncomfortable question. How does one handle the mid run emergency bowel movement? With cycling it's generally not an issue coz you can pop in to a coffee shop. With running every single foot strike makes the problem worse until is simply cannot be ignored. During the week our little 6k efforts are fine coz you wake up and hit the road before the rest of your bdy wakes up and by the time usual bodily functions kick in you are back home.
  20. All of this. For me. The thing that Tokai has going for it is the convenience factor. If you have a time limit you just ride until you can and when you are done you point your bike down the hill and 5 minutes later you are at your car. Having to access and leave from the top removes a lot of it's appeal. Plus with all the other legal riding once again available why bother? Locally all of the greenbelts and all of the other Sanparks stuff including all the stuff on TM is available. There's also that new trail from Camps Bay to sample. Further afield all of the amazing quality stuff in stellies is available. All of the tygerberg stuff is available for members. Helderberg is open for day visitors. Jonkers is so good right now that I don't need to spend thousands on a plane ticket to France to get my Bikepark fix. That new climb trail is a wonder and the trails are running so well. We are so spolit for choice.
  21. I've never done a stage race (Sani was supposed to be no1 for me this year) so take this from whence it comes. Ryder make a knock off of the Spez Power saddle. It's called the Ryder Force. I have one on my Jeffsy and I'm very happy with it. It's not as good as the Selle san Marco I have on my roadie but that was considerably more money. It's a cheap option at around R400 so if it doesn't work for you, you haven't spent a massive amount of money.
  22. My other half is reading a book by Bruce Whitfield. The upside of down. There are so so so so many things we accept as fact in this country that are simply not true. Particularly around infrastructure and development. Yes we have our challenges but there are a lot of positives. We always seem to tend to the negative. I'm not sure if it's an SA condition or a human one. We also tend to imply that our arguments are nuanced but the person with the opposing view to us is binary. I know I'm guilty of this. IMO. As South Africans (And Africans) the very thing that annoys many of us (the bending of rules) actually points to an entrepreneurial spirit which flows strongly in most of us. Anyway. Wishing all of you an amazing weekend.
  23. No. But that does look cool.
  24. I know something. And when the news of this local rider doing this really big thing breaks I would like all of you to know that I knew before all of you did. But I chose to withhold the information.
