Well done and it's something I shoulda done long ago but didn't. I'm sure you're a better rider now that you've done the course.

Thanks for the vote of confidence, it was a humbling experience realising I cannot properly ride a bike - a lot of technique goes into it.

I struggled a lot with the figure of eights, counterbalancing with my body to avoid the bike from tipping over. Something I'll have to practise in my own time, I see there is an empty field spot where I can pack out the cones to train, and if the bike drops, it is at least on grass and not tar.

Very nice, thanks. If I may ask, how much was the course?

The costs was R650 for non-members and R550 for BMW Club Members.

We started meeting from 08:00 for coffee and muffins. 13:00 we got lunch at Anura Restaurant (which is included with the course fee). We finish with the training just after 16:00.

So I feel you got your money's worth and I'll definitely do it again.

Nice but I can't see the photos. Can you post them as jpgs if possible?

Sure, here you go. Sadly no photos of the manoeuvre or such. A GoPro would have been helpful on that.

    Level 1 training:

    - Safety regarding your clothing
    - LOS (Look Up, Open Up (be loose on the bike), Stand (for the technical stuff/when it gets scary)
    - Setting up your bike for off-road riding
    - Balancing (walking around your bike keep it up with one hand)
    - Picking up your bike
    - Take offs
    - U-turns and figure of eights.
    - Emergency braking (with locking of the rear wheel)
    - Escape your "kopwurm" as Oom Neels said (stop blaming your bike/tyre setup/controls) and RYB - Ride Your Bike!

Mine is waiting for me at the airport 😜

With the troops this year, only once have I had to park in a different parking bay, a bday that was right next to "my parking bay"

Have not managed to convince the office that riding up to JHB, or Botswana is a wise business decision yet 😁

How does airport parking work with the bike at Cape Town International? A lot of queries on the Wild Dog forum but no clear cut answer.

Will do. In fact I was wondering about arranging a meet and greet ride maybe to Kleinmond or somewhere for Hub bikers to finally meet. Ideas?

I would be keen if you guys do not mind a youngster.

If there are riders from Durbanville, they are more than welcome to join.

That looks like an early morning pic, and I would assume over the weekend?

Friday Team Building event, and yes quite early. Luckily I wasn't stuck in the traffic like the rest of my colleagues. One of the directors also joined me later on with his GS1250.

    Hey Andrew

    Did you ever come right?

If I can offer my 2c having run alone extensively on the mountain for many many years.

Avoid Cecilia and rather go from the Nek car park. From there you can head straight up the jeep track onto the contour path or up the road/Single track to the dams. This open up loops back to the car up/down Nursery, Rooikay ravine, Skeleton and other options, or a loop up to and around the dams and back.

All depending on how long you want to go.

It's always busy and probably one of the safest pieces of mountain.

I'm slowly recovering from being out, but you are welcome to PM me and perhaps we can meet up and I can show you a loop or two, albeit slowly for now.

    Hey Jewbacca,

Yes, I stumbled across the Durbanville AC Trail group and bumped into an old friend of mine in the process which is great.

I am still relatively new to trail running, but I already love it. I've got the Saucony Peregrine 12 to help with the runs, and I'll use the Triumph 19 to switch up with road running.

This is quite a major shift and adjustment for me coming from cycling, which I used to do, and it was a complete fitness wake-up call for me.

I'm eager to improve my fitness in the upcoming months.

  8. Hey guys, I recently got a new pair of trail shoes to do some mountain runs once or twice a month.

More specifically Cecillia Forest and surroundings on a Saturday morning. I know safety is a bit of concern, so probably not ideal to run alone.

Is there perhaps a group that I can join?

  9. For those still thinking of getting a neck brace, just do it! It is something I was skimping on for quite some time but glad I pulled the trigger.

    Why should I wear one?

    The story of Leatt:

    Quote

The Leatt story began in 2001 when Dr. Christopher Leatt witnessed the death of a fellow motorcycle rider the weekend after his son, Matthew, began riding.

Dr Leatt began research and development of a device almost immediately, driven by a passion to protect not only his son, but all riders from the effects of catastrophic neck injuries. His first patents were filed in 2003.
The revolutionary Leatt-Brace® was developed in Cape Town, South Africa and tested by BMW engineers at their facility in Munich, Germany, with first production units sold in late 2006.

It is actually amazing to think that Leatt is internationally respected by riders all over the globe not only in South Africa. What an achievement for Dr. Christopher Leatt!

If you do not mind second hand gear, I'll highly recommend Dominic from Rider-Sports. I got my pair from him, super nice dude! Find more here: https://ridersports.co.za/

That's all from me, happy Friday and happy riding. 😎

    Evening All

Anyone here used the Dunlop Trailmax Mission tyres on big ADV bikes? …….keen on input here. I believe I will give them a go on the 1190. I feel to keep the big Katoom for tar road and hard Karoo dirt riding with the little 690 shod with Pirelli MT21’s for the more dedicated off-road and trail work.

Cannot give personal experience feedback but have a look at the following:

    https://wilddog.net.za/threads/the-unicorn-adventure-tyre.262994/

The Mitas E07 is awesome tyres if you can find stock that is what I run front and rear on my G650X and seems that they are also solid on the bigger bikes.

  11. Decided against selling my bike, and got the seller's remorse. I am going to miss this bike, even if I don't ride it so much. But I need to toughen up and go for a solo ride once, just need to work on my tools first, otherwise, I am going to leave myself stranded...

Luckily the bank manager approved the sports shooting, so it is still on the menu going forward.

    Happy Wednesday All!

  12. Starting to get back into fitness and decided to take up jogging.

I would like to join the parkruns at Meerendal on Saturdays.

At the moment I am limited to only my motorcycle for transport. Does anyone know if there is perhaps a safe place where one can store your kit?
