With accessories, I would say buy the best you can afford, ie one of the reputable brands and ALWAYS buy based on the most perfect FIT.

I am using GC 2.3 front and FT Control 2.2 Rear for Sani after ripping my GC 2.1 rear sidewall while bundu-bashing/bushwhacking in NW Province... One thing that I have noted is that the Specialised tyres are VERY sensitive to pressure, so do NOT over-inflate. I find that if I pump them up too hard (i.e. 2bar), the handling suffers (I weigh 80kilos). Hope that helps and GOOD LUCK. PS: you may struggle to find FT in 2.1 - they were in short supply in Jhb.

When I was a lot younger, a family friend (multiple Comrades/Two Oceans finisher) went for an 8km easy jog on Table Mountain with the 'flu and never came back. Saddest thing is that it (the heart attack) was so easily avoidable.

Dude, we're in exactly the same boat in this regard. 2014 is my first S2C, courtesy of place gifted by a racing reptile mate of mine...I only got back on a bike about three months' ago (after not riding for YEARS). To add insult to injury, the possie I got is in the RACE and the seeding is right up at the sharp end of the Race (i.e. right behind the pros...) . To state that I am keerapping myself is the understatement of the Century... What's worse - embarrassment or death?
