Yeah right; eish I have been copped with a nicked R1m but I'll give it back willingly so there should be no recourse. I would not rely on that defence, but that is just me.

I think ' unknowingly ' is out the window on this one. The poop hit the fan and it's now damaged control. The damage and trauma is way more than the item been sold and returned. Bike jacking, murder, mugging,  home invasion list goes on.

If you want a new dual suspension good bike you have to spend good money.
sorry, but the budget doesn't match the request, why not second hand , maybe hardtail maybe 26" or 27,5" wheels maybe all of that and your budget matches.

I think he is saying new to him bike. But yeah 8/9k not going to get much if anything.

Have these people gotten hold of each other? @MTBAustria?

Theres obviously a case number. The people and serials are now all known. The seller, the people and now parent who bought the stolen goods and its also not so hard to get @CWC Online involved to share info once you let them know they’ve almost unknowingly been made part of a dodgy love triangle.

@MTBAustria was last active on Monday. Maybe @Matt can pop him a mail or heads-up on developments.

My son Jordan bought the bike last week and only got a booking at CW yesterday, hence posting it today. Many people buy and sell of FB marketplace, it is rather common. The seller gave a legitimate history of the bike and my son thought it was a bargain because of the faulty battery. He is not out there to profit from stolen goods....

And as a perant the thought never crossed your mind that the deal was suspect. Proceeded to book a service and flip it for 20k profit. A cyclist and Hub member for a few years can't tell me you didn't have a suspicion.

    Hi all.

My, I think, 2006 Bianchi needs a bottom bracket. It is rocking as I'm pedalling.

My LBS who were not so cooperative said it is a narrow 105mm Italian thread.

I would appreciate any help or referral. 17139731852955716516451009694553.jpg.2c8c9a697790be294d47d007110dd1d4.jpg17139731852955716516451009694553.jpg.2c8c9a697790be294d47d007110dd1d4.jpg17139732480262605882880342355714.jpg.c54f668eb21c19dac2580bdfda00f9d1.jpg

@JMK1 Johnathan might have some idea and/or parts you need.

do I have the story straight?

@MTBAustria had his bike stolen, bike without battery but worth ~R50k(that's a guess but not really relevant)

    * bike is found on FB marketplace for R4.5k, but listed as sold

    * @MTBAustria gets the cops involved

    * @Adeeb SSZA finds the same bike for sale on FB marketplace for R25k by @Jordan Van den heever

    * ad is taken down once @Jordan Van den heever realised it is actually stolen.

    * guessing @Jordan Van den heever saw $$$$ from a quick deal, and is now going to try negotiate with @MTBAustria

    I have so many questions.

Along as people buy the (50k)4.5k bikes the cycling community will suffer. The buyer is just as guilty as the guy that stole the bike.

But put on your Dexter hat quickly: Let say I have a race coming up and I know that I will need a new piece or hardware for this race. I then scroll through the classifieds, put an offer on BHP, pay the amount, receive the item before the event, do the event and return the item 🫢

As a seller I would probably be a little pissed and not much I can do but move on. The big wheel will turn and he will have his day he obviously don't work on the same moral compass as you and maybe me.

I thought about an interesting loop hole this morning when using BHP. So let's say I am the buyer of a certain item or kit. I use BHP and the item arrives on a Friday or even a Thursday for that matter. I then decide to fit the item to my bike and take it out for a test run before confirming that the item has been delivered. After testing it I then return it and claim it to not be what I am looking for / want. Is there something that safeguards the seller against something like this?

I would think there is more behind the reasons for just sending it back after testing. Maybe condition or misleading ad. I wouldn't sort shipping make payments etc for something I didn't want but I would send it back if it was not as advertised or in a condition I expected.  I would hold payments release till sorted that's what BHP is for.

Hello someone send me this thread. I bought this bike last week in stellenbosch off fb marketplace (obv have all proof),took it for a service at chris willemse and posted it today and was contacted by an unknown person saying the bike was stolen. I then removed the add. Can the owner please contact me.

So your ad stated battery was faulty and buyers needed to get a new battery. Infact you bought it without a battery. So that was a BS story. A Levo for 4.5k and you snapped it up. Your ethics sux hope this becomes a lekker learning curve.

Been to one in Bellville and one back in Pta, both refuse, want to sell me a new Proride 598 .... 🙈

Hi, did Thule try fitting a standard lock barrel with key. Not sure if it would work but the barrels all seem to be interchangeable old and new. I have a few old plastic barrels you are welcome to try. They should lock the same but not with a flat screwdriver like yours.

Hi my thread on the bolt that holds my Thule Hang-on Bike Rack got damaged so stops turning half way in.

Does anyone know where I can buy the Thule 50212 Tightening screw M16 in Cape Town. I'm based in the Northern Suburbs.

Or where to buy any replacement bolt  that is the same side. I just need to make sure it tightens enough to keep the rack steady.

I have a few of them. If you are in Gauteng/Centurion area you are welcome to have one. Chocolate or Smarties will do.

Edit: ok i see you in Cape Town so Thule store should have and about R200.
