  1. just checking...racetec seedings still not updated from this race?

Racetec seedings are still a dog's breakfast.

One Tonner results are also still a mess.  105 people with unknown starting times that need sorting.

947 seeding was meant to be out by now.

Give it another week, they have a lot to sort out!

  2. anything to make more money and there will be people taking this as a last minute decision.

Is that so particularly awful?  They have more capacity so can keep it open as long as possible.

What I do dislike is the constant spam and multiple "last chance" posts.  I guess it seems to work for them, entries still ticking up.

  3. Is seeding updated from this event yet (mine isn't, but not ppa member if that's the issue)

If yes, then what's the beta?

Not updated yet.  Given that more than a third of participants have invalid results, they may be holding off on running it.

  4. Anyone know how many groups there starting?

Had a better group in CTCC and finished 2nd in that group?

Oh well never done it before so wont complain, cant wait the route looks so good!

    2018 start groups:

    A

    B

    C

    Tandems

    D-E

    F-G

    H-I

    J-L

    M-Z

This will differ depending on how many people do the race, if there are more participants we'll be split into more groups.  Likely more groups this year as the teams competition is gone and the weather forecast looks good.

You can check your seeding here https://pedalpower.org.za/seeding/

  5. Did any of you guys ride this last year or have ridden any of the trails which they cut for the race?

If not, then just be wary of assuming anything.

It is world class riding at a level far exceeding anything we have 'race ready' here. Throw 2 x Ezelenduro's together but make the trails steeper and scarier.

Is it cheaper to go to Europe and enter a fully Certified EWS multi day race? Ludo May reckons the trails they rode last year, race and before/after the race are as radical as anything he has ever ridden with an African rawness.

Adam Ramseau has built some wonders.

I get that it's expensive, but it's also an experience. Wines2whales 3 day stage race 'non tented' accommodation package costs R10500 per person and I can assure you this blows that out of the water with an atomic bomb.

So on par price wise with a pretty average 3 day stage race but set in one of the most beautiful places on trails that will blow your mind with people of radness and crazy cheap Maluti Lager....

You gravity/Endurobro's are a bunch of cheap bastards! The Marathon boys shell out with glee! :whistling:

Agree with everything except W2W comparison - W2W is completely overpriced.

It sounds like this justifies the premium price relative to other stage races though, W2W certainly doesn't.

  6. https://www.news24.com/SouthAfrica/News/cyclists-accident-causes-george-dam-construction-site-to-shut-down-20190917

I found this article quite rich, "The situation results in a minority group exposing the entire community to project delays and cost claims by the contractor"

Trespassing is one thing, but to go on and play the high horse card about cyclists causing project delays and wasted time and money in SA is laughable.

I mean it's not like we ever consider the impact of the shutdown around Houtbay or 1000 other places when hooligans swarm the streets and bring an entire community to a grinding halt?

I see only facts in the article.

"Whataboutism" is incredibly poor reasoning. Just because some hooligans are burning trucks elsewhere doesn't change what happened here.

Assuming the contractor's costs are passed to the municipality, the municipality should recover those costs from those that caused the delay. Just like business should grow the balls to take the unions/councilors that stoke violent behavior to civil court.

  7. Not for a GX bike....

I bought the Scalpil Si4 and replaced the drivetrain with XTR and swopped the lefty for a carbon lefty and still did not get to 80K

This is already an expensive GX bike, going for R85k:

    https://www.specialized.com/za/en/epic-expert-carbon/p/171232?color=264132-171232

R100k seems a bit over the top for this spec level.

The top ranging models both come in at R175k, but again the S-Works Epic AXS comes with a Quarq power meter.  I'd subtract R10k for that at least.

Hope the dealers are negotiating on price, don't want this hot bike to be stillborn

  8.

Also what can be used to clean the dirt of in all the small places where a damp cloth cannot be used

Chain cleaning tool and degreaser for the chain/cassette/chainring.  Plus one of these:

    IceToolz-C121-Bicycle-Two-Way-Brush-Doub

Soap, warm water and elbow grease with a soft brush for the rest.

  9. smoove chain lube

Agreed this is best if you like quiet and clean (you don't use copious amounts so it won't attract much dirt), but only if you like keeping your chain clean as you don't really get the benefit if you keep lubing a dirty chain. I clean my bike and drivetrain weekly and love Smooth.

If you're a little less nitpicky about bike cleaning than I am, go Squirt. Excellent lube. Run the chain through a rag, reapply Squirt, go ride.

  10. So let's give a negative rating to a seller trying to sell a hunk of junk described as 'in mint condition'

Ratings should only be used on completed deals, or deals where a party has failed to complete obligations and the other party has completed their obligations

So if a deal is agreed on, but next moment one party disappears and the transaction doesn't happen?  OR the buyer makes an offer, the seller accepts, then the buyer tries to go lower?

I'd think neutral rating with thorough explanation for both of these, but not certain what the forum rules say.
