  1. Anybody using the climb with a MTB?

Does the fork negate some of the effect of the climb? As in the suspension absorb the movement?

I'm looking to get a dedicated bike for the kickr and since I only ride mtb was looking at getting a cheap hardtail but not sure if it will be better to use a roar bike with the climb.

    Any thoughts?

    Lockout?

Edit: also, no more so than it would doing a climb in reality

  2. WTH! Last year the general entries were open for at least a few weeks if I recall correctly?

Clearly the economy is picking up...

    Or people are buying down.

Until now W2W always sold out both weekends immediately then a month or two to sell out the midweek event.  This year entries opened on 14 Feb and it looks like they only sold out the first weekend today.

Not quite comparable I know, but DC offers decent value and great motivation/camaraderie if you are doing it with a club.  I love the team format.

  3. Is anyone else experiencing issues with their Edge 520 or any other Garmin devices in cold weather? Elevation and heart rate have been way off recently, sometimes not recording at all, and only seems to normalize once the sun is out and things warm up a bit.

Did the Stellenbosch MTB Challenge over the weekend and was 600m short on elevation, even went to 139m below sea level (?)

    Any way to fix this?

My HR remains spot on in all weather, even when I get on the bike after wearing the strap on a freezing ocean swim.

Elevation on the Edge series is heavily affected by getting wet... the barometer does not like getting wet, it starts to underreport. My 520, 820 and 830 all do the same if it rains. The Fenix seems to be better, so I record with that on rainy rides.

    Cold hasn't affected it though.

  4. Too late to start training now? Haha, just got an entry today and had to take it! I was lazy and sick the last two months, let's see if I can get fit in three weeks time!

Also, any tips and hints for this race..please direct them this way. I'm completely in the dark and have no clue what to expect.

Go do Around the Pot 100miler in Swellendam this weekend

  5. Yes if you're using Zwift and plan on racing. The gearing on MTB means that on flat races you spin out.

The realism setting compensates for this. Keep it at 50% and you should never spin out nor run out of gears on a climb. You end up using your 4/5 middle gears only

  6. saw an add for Di2 levers (to good to be true) "like new"...collected the cash...met the person at his house...they even had packaging...lucky i opened and checked the levers...seems the fella had claimed from insurance after a small ooops...put new lever on the bike and the damaged one in the box....gave him a bad rating...a damaged part in the replacement parts packaging doesnt qualify as like new.

Misrepresentation at best, outright fraud at worst!

  7. Hi all, just to keep you guys in the loop we are finalizing the winter series and should have it all fleshed out over the next 2 days. So keep an eye open, will post the details in the next 48 hours.

It's been slightly more than 48 hours now, any word on relaunching this event?  We're quite deep into winter and I'd like to get some races in!

  8. save your money and dont go - a useless race. Go for a 5day holiday and ride your bike.

2019 TOGH was my worst race and event ever

I had the same negative experience in 2019.

However it used to be an amazing race and with the much longer runway (plus a sponsor secured) I believe they are trying to revive it properly for 2020.

I've also taken a discounted entry for next year, backing them to do a better job.
