  1. Check the freehub is tight...not the cassette on the freehub, but the freehub itself.. ie. cassette isnt moving around
  2. I try make some sort of gesture to everyone i pass on my morning ride. Just about everyone greets back.... runners, cyclists..... Sometimes i might be keeping an eye on a dodgy car, and miss a passing cyclist, and he might think i'm rude?? Perhaps its these instances that gives us the bad rap??!!
  3. Thanks.... Pity!!
  4. Does anyone know if a standard Shimano XTR front hub can be converted to a 15mm thru axle? I know for American classics, and Hopes, you can get a convertion kit?
  5. I'm keen on getting a set of these, and have seen good reveiws on the net. Has anybody here had / got experience with these? These are the carbon / ali bonded rims.
  6. You see..... dopping cant be bad for you.... im gonna keep having my couple of beers everyday, and not let anyone stop me!!!!
  7. Good point
  8. My LBS have also mensioned to me that they that take big strain dealing with Paragon / KCNC. When i have enquired about parts, he has advised me against them.. Not because the KCNC stuff is bad, but because of the supplier.
  9. Hmmm.. that Giant is a looker!!! i got the same. i upgraded the non XT parts to Full XT.... now i'm after the American Classics....
  10. Just something i have observed (perhaps incorrectly). I'v been out of school 17 years, and the guys that were really tallented sportsman at school have all packed on weight. Alot of the guys that were either average, or not sportsman are now fitter, and cyling/mtb/kite surfing...
  11. your left STI is pointing in a bit!!
  12. i'm 35 and weigh the same as i did in matric!!!! but had bit of a wobbly in my 20's... thankfully i dicovered cycling at 30!!!

    Shaving Legs

I think for pro's / elite's its more to do with massage's. they have leg massages every day, and its almost impossible with hairy legs. Its now just part of cycling culture, and i geuss part of the apparel for the rest of us!!
  14. My Easton EA 70's have broken 2 spokes recently (wheels only 3 months old). The first one LBS just replaced the spoke, 2 weeks later next one broke, now i have sent them to the agents to be rebuilt. Arnt Eastons supposed to be hand build by only the best??
  15. I am totally unqualified in the wheel building game, but my engineering savy tells me that a 36 hole rim needs 36 spokes supporting those holes.... essentially where theres a hole, theres a week point. i would guess a rim designed for 18 spokes would be either deeper, or have slightly thicker walls to make up for the lack of spokes?

    No Veet.. no eat!!!!
  17. i'v just recently got a 29er, and absolutely love it. I bought the Giant XTC 1 hardtail, and changed all the non XT parts to XT (crank, Front derailler, brakes, shifters). Also changes the Seatpost, and bars to KCNC... all for under R20K. IT is awesome in the singletrack.. it is also amazingly stable at low speeds in very tricky tight stuff... must be something to do with lower center of gravity relative to the hubs (crank hight from ground is the same as 26" bike, therefore the crank is lower then the hubs)... My confidence and control has improoved greatly. It's also surprisingly light... 11,5kg with stock wheels (stock wheels are flippen heavy), and 10,8kg with American classics.... including pedals, bottle cages etc..
  18. Well done...... but i must say, i have also seen the flipside of this senario twice. two different insidence, where i was over whelmed how how many people helped. One, where my maid got hit by a car at the busstop. and once when i binned it hard in the rain.... A couple of people helped me, and even got soaked in there work clothes on their way to work!!!. maybe its a coastal thing!!!!
  19. I hope for his case, since he met Cherise!!!
  20. Bayticol... spray your sock aswell, it still works in your clothes after being washed a few time...
  21. Hi Johan I'v been going back and forth debating the same thing for a set of 29er wheels. I like the look of the American classic, 32 regular spoke config is what i like there. I'v looked on chain reaction, and there is a set of DT swiss rims available pretty cheap, plus either XT or Hope hubs, and they can build a set for quite a bit less then a AC's. But buying a set of AC's off the shelf is boring!! What can you offer in the way of a 29er race / odd training ride, set of wheels. Ie. what rims/hubs do you have access to. I say have access to, because they dont seem to be easily availible?
  22. did you colour code the living room to suit the bike, or bike to suit the living room??!! very nice
  23. cateye or garmin
  24. upgrade the peddles, if you have the ones in the pic... go clip in... then ride it like you stole it... then buy a whole new bike!! 29er...
  25. SA rocks..... just live by the rules as best you can, and the rest is just the roll of a dice!!!!
