  1. I had a Giant carbon TCR road bike.... patches of clear coat came off it. I now have a Schwinn Carbon Paramount series 9.... best paint coat i'v had on a bike. Very robust. after a year not a chip or scratch. The Paint is almost like protective coat, its not hard and brittle and cracky (if there is such a word) like giant paint.
  2. Not defending Giant here, but any ally bike gets paint lifting and corrotion if sweat is not washed off it. The first place it happens is at the cable stops on the top tube / headset area. in saying that, My Giant XTC 29er paint scratches ridiculously easy.

    2012 XT

Yip... i'll be waiting for this one.... i like!!! They also say price will come down a bit?? XT just makes perfect sense to me, cant get my head around replacing X0, XX, or XTR parts after a saturday morning crash!!!!
  4. Your time will come!!!!!!! and when it rains.. it pours.....
  5. Like looking at classic cars!!! i dont care what they say about our big wheels on those other threads.... they something special.......
  6. If you not earning money riding, then you better be earning alot of money somewhere else if you wanna ride burry's 26er.......
  7. i smile more on my 29er..... oh, and i also let it all hang out through the technical stuff i used to be scared of!!!
  8. Well, at least since the 29er debates started on forums around the world Lance has had breather from the limelight!!!!!
  9. You cant control jack russells....... i'v tried with 4 in my lifetime... and now have a golden retreiver!!!
  10. Every time i hear of a cyclist killled on the raod i seriously question riding, but i just cant stop! I thought i could race MTB competitively in the sub vets? I'v come to realise i cant!!! i still start all the races in A batch, but i ride to enjoy now...
  11. Elevation gain 1464m on my Garmin Max elevation was 1594m (top of larry's loop / lebanon) min was 1018m
  12. I was one of the front bunch sent wrong. The marshal was on his cell phone, and standing in a position that lead us right and up the hill. A quad bike eventually caught us and sent us back. by this time the front B batch guys were coming up aswell, we turned them back and it seems that from then on the marshal woke up!!!
  13. Km for km, i rekon this 60km route was harder then the privious 75km route?? You can see it in the leaders times aswell (dispite them being sent wrong). always amazing singletrack, but the down hill after lebanon was hard on the body.... I'll be honost, i'm licking my wounds this morning!!!!
  14. Is that available in SA spec'ed like that, or is it a custom build? who are the SA agents? Is it full Sram X9? Seriously loving that bike.
  15. Shade..... thats a seriously floored comparrison.... so basically you saying a F1 car doesnt have good top speed because its got 13" wheels?? its all in the gearing boss.... a F1 track is smooth like a pool table, unlike an MTB course.... thats why it gets away with smaller wheels,,, maybe??
  16. i rode 160mmm on the 29er for a year and never had a problem either, until i rode that one downhill track where is probably 3km's of fast / steep / hard braking..... It exposed the weakness. 185mm on the 29er just feels more in control generally.
  17. Myself, i prefer to prempt what these morrons are going to do (they are pretty predictable)... and dont shake your head at them if you can help it,,, it definately waves a red flag at a guy having a bad day!!! But these situations can happen to anyone and i had the misfortune of being involved in one while riding with a mate who has had more bar fights then anyone i know.... It wasnt great... the driver got a serious hiding from my mate, but still today, when i ride in that area, i worry about that morron recognising me and doing something stupid... i wish we had just let it go that day....
  18. i had 160mm rotor on my 29er front.... brakes used to fade badly at the bottom of "gravity dice" in Giba (KZN).. i changed front to 185mm avid G3 rotor and massive improvement. 29er's should run 180 + rotor at front... but i know these guys are scared of the extra 40 grams??
  19. I use xt chains for mtb and ultegra for road.... I use a park tool thingy, and when it reaches .75mm i change it(they say change it when it reaches 1mm, but i dont wait till then). This seriously extends the life of the chainrings and cassettes. I have an ultegra cassette that has 25000km's on it and its still shows no sign of wear.
  20. cant comment on the SB, but i have the Giant and absolutely love the ride.... 2011 giant comes with better spec then 2010. Its got the lighter rims that are on the Anthem (but not DT swiss rear hub)and SLX / XT..... I'v got the 2010, and have put full XT, KCNC cockpit, and the Anthem wheels. I read alot of interweb reveiws and the consensis seems to be that the Giant geometry is spot on!!! But i cant comment on that as its the only 29er i'v riden.
  21. Try a 29er!!
  22. If it moves, but should'nt..... Use duct tape!!! IF it should move, but does'nt...... Use WD40!!
  23. if i were in 100th position, i would at least declare it with my mates that i beat (no-one else would really give a damn). But if were in podium position, then i would declare it with the officials..... that sh#$t will haunt you one day if you dont!!!!
  24. Sorry about my "all 4"s" comment... Appologies
  25. Coming from a guy with "I ussually cry during sex....... " at the bottom of his posts???
