  5. Just got back from the trail, was an awesome experience, the smooth singletrack was brilliant, the scenery breathtaking, the vibe incredible , all in all it did live up to its hype. Day 2 will live in my memories for the rest of my life and the first 40km will go down for me as the best piece of singletrack on planet earth. Its truly MTB nirvana and everyone should do it once. It was my First Sani and i really enjoyed it. Even the cold was fun. BUT....here come the BUT. .... I sensed towards the end that its success is beginning to be it downfall . Im not the best biker in the world but i know how to ride off road and if you enter the sani one should at least understand how to navigate rocks, roots etc, most of the course was pristine and smooth but every now and again as it got a teeny bit technical people would stop uncleat and push cause there was a rock or root or a puddle in the way. Leaving me to my gripe number 2 which is the same old same old thing with slow people on downhill singletrack. I was amazed at how some seriuosly fit riders would pass me on the flats and uphills only to come to a screaching halt as the terrain turned south. Im well aware that the Sani has now grown into a monster that even Farmer Glen cannot believe but for me the field is way to congested. There are to many riders out there (1500 a day) and i feel that was its downfall. Would i do it again???? .... i would LOVE to ride that route again its the best terrain and i have ridden but to ride it in a crowd , and live in a mass crowd and eat in a crowd and sleep in a crowd was a bit hectic, there was lots of long lines for everything. from eating, to toilets, to washing, to , to singletrack that it became a bit tiresome. I might give it a miss next year and opt for a much smaller and unknown event like Lord of the chain rings or the knysna 300 etc. hmmm but day 2 could make me sign up for it again , i really am envious of the dudes that did this race in the early years before it became a mass mkt party. Anyhoo well done to all who did it, i will treasure my memories, im just not sure if i will fall into the category of signing up for it year in year out like a lot of people do, i understand why they do, and i know there are thousands lined up ready to take my place but thats ok i might be somewhere else riding a route that will be the "New Sani: and will enjoy that before it too gets eaten up by the corporate monster of a world we live in.

  13. My car has cost me R9000 in services and tyres for the past 4 years my MTb has cost me 12k in 4 years for new wheels, services , tyres , bits , bobs etc etc etc. Its crazy when u look at it like this.
  14. Kenda Nevegals they heavy but in 4 years of hectic MTb riding i have NEVER got a puncture . Until i do i will keep fitting them.
  15. I ride up and down singletrack and i have NO problem giving way to the dude coming down as when its my turn to go down i expect the dude going up to give way as the main focus of mtb is gunning down singletrack take that pleasure away and whats the point of climbing . SO Stevief says give way to the dude coming down....case closed.
  16. Looks like a silverback
  17. Medals are silly i agree, but whats worse are most of the goodie bags! At one event i got a can of soup for crying out loud i have also been given a mallet which was most unusual...fact is im sure the combined costs of the so called goodie bag and medalsmuliplied by the amount of entrants would be better utilised as a cash donation to the community in which the event takes place as opposed to handing them out to people of whom 95% dont give a toss.
  18. Somerset west you have within 20km radius...Jonkershoerk, grabouw, oak valley, lebanon, lourensford. Not bad ...not bad at all
  19. Stupid question but Im coming up from Cape Town where do i get my box??
  20. Best part was no bottlenecks on singletrack, as the race started we climbed 400m in the first 5 km so by the time i got to the track the entire field was about 30 mins ahead of me.
  21. Wow i had no idea the anthem 29er was so highly rated, i always thought they were fairly enrty level 29ers, i had a 26 inch anthem and it was an awesome bike i just never liked the looked of the 29er. Guess i was wrong
  22. Was a very hard ride, never thought it would be, 1750m of climbing aint easy. But im happy i did it i need the training for sani2c. That singletrack at the end was as technical as i have ever ridden in a race.
  23. self inflating tyres .....or at least remote inflating/deflating tyres so if u need to adjust tyre pressure on the fly u just hit the button for soft, medium or hard.
