  1. Klipheuwel Bike Park situated at Klein-Brakrivier adjacent to the N2 has one of the largest pump tracks in the area with a XCO track starting/finishing right adjacent to it. Safe for children and with Farm Stall and Beer House located on the same premises. Some great trails starts from the venue over private farm land next to the river and into the hills. The park is open from Tuesday to Sunday from 08h00 till 17h00.
  2. I'm in PE for a few days between Xmas and New Years, can anyone recommend some safe trails near Newton Park that I can enjoy? I don't mind riding 10-15kays to get to a trail. At the moment I'm not sure if I should take the MTB or Road bike but a worthwhile trail will sway my decision quickly. Ta
  3. Urgent appeal. Window for comments close today. - Submissions closed, thanks! If the objections succeed in blocking this track for the reasons provided, it's a precedent that makes for a slippery slope from here on.. The article has been written from one side only, this is quite clear by the reasons provided. Please read and if you support the effort to responsibly construct and manage this proposed trail, send a one line email to the address supplied. I think Meurant has proved himself several times over to be a responsible ambassador for trails in this country. https://www.facebook.com/ama.rider/posts/1960106460682691
  4. I'm goin g to Ngwenya Lodge near Komatipoort for the first time - Anyone been there and ridden in the area Road or MTB that can give some suggestions - Mainly for 1 - 1.5 hr training
  5. Hello everyone Would just like to know if anyone could recommend trails near Mokopane.
  6. While we wait for the trees limiting full-time opening of Tokai to be removed or lopped, we've been lucky to have a few donors cover the cost of opening the trails to the public on additional days, such as public holidays. For this Friday's Youth Day holiday on the 16th, The Bike Park at Constantia Uitsig have, again, generously offered to cover the costs of the marshals, as per the agreement in place guiding weekend access. Thanks to Chris, who should be on a plane right now to compete for the title of Downhill World Champ, and the rest of the crew at The Bike Park, this long weekend could be your long weekend in the saddle! Good luck Chris, and thanks again.. Give them a follow on Facebook or twitter and inquire about some of their services like, skills training or bike repairs. - - - NOTE: There is another holiday coming up in August, so if you as a company or group of riders would like to contribute to open the trails for a day (includes a small donation to the trails), email us at trails@tokaimtb.co.za.
  7. TokaiMTB Volunteer Build Day 3rd June 2017, 9am - 3pm Join us for the next Volunteer Build Day of 2017! This build day takes place on Saturday the 3rd June at 9am. We'll be working on DH3 again! Thanks to the last build day, as well as the efforts of the Trail Tarts, the 2nd Bergvliet & 1st Steenberg Scout groups and a couple other intrepid volunteers, we should be able to open the lower extension of DH3 after this build day! After this, there will need to be a bit more material put into the trail in order to secure long-term sustainability (clay, clay, clay) and to get final shaping done, but with the basic trail being open, this could be done bit by bit and we can get back to enjoying DH3 in all its (NEW! IMPROVED!) glory. Vasbyt is now open again, and seems to be getting rave reviews from those who have ridden it. There are still a few areas which need additional material (clay and stone to replace sand) but that can be dealt with in good time. If anyone has a spare wheelbarrow, please bring it along to the build day, we'll be moving some material! Bring your hats, a spade or metal rake, sunscreen and plenty of water. A snack/lunch may also be useful! So - as normal, there are limited slots available. Please RSVP as soon as possible by filling in the form at the link below. See you on Saturday! As usual, please try to be there a little before 9am so that we leave nobody behind. Register here: http://eepurl.com/cQyhy5 Regards The TokaiMTB team.
  8. It's been a long time coming and for those who can wrangle a bike through every terrain, you'll like this announcement! Actually, anyone looking for fun will enjoy the news about the All-Mountain track that's been restored and dare I say it, "upgraded". Long story short. It is open for riding from tomorrow despite it still being work in progress. Here is some more detail.. > https://www.facebook.com/tokaimtb/posts/615933831933702
  9. Following last year's example in a desperate attempt to find greener pastures, a Southeaster-less, damp riding environment and even some loam, we headed about four hours up the N2 towards the Garden Route. Click here to view the article
  10. Kicking off 2017, the Trail Daze crew re-visited Cape Town to bring you the second of this two-part (part one) mother-city mountain biking showcase. We were joined by local pinner, industry influencer and all-round nice guy, Mark Hopkins. Click here to view the article
  11. UPDATE: Tokai will open on Saturday the 10th of December, jump to the post. Sorry for the copy/paste from Facebook but this pretty much captures the progress from the last few weeks and why #Volunteering is so important. The tweet that seems to have grabbed a lot of people's attention.. can't say we blame them, some of the trails in Tokai are really starting to take shape again! https://twitter.com/CraigRH_10/status/760491199996264449 Reto Mani (from Blackhill fame) has been working pretty hard on the Tokai Downhill track for the last week. With financial assistance from the Pedal Power Association, TokaiMTB has contracted two trail builders to help prepare the trails for December's official reopening. Not to say they will be doing all the work, there is still a lot happening behind the scenes with volunteers pitching in to prepare the base track for the contractors. Debris, branches and erosion all need to be cleared, cut away and filled. Tons of soil and rock need to be moved from our stockpile sites to where it can be carted onto the trail and moved into place. Skill graded trail signage and safety measures to keep people from straying into dangerous areas still have to be installed.. There is a lot of work still ahead but the promise of good trails back on our doorstep is the drive and motivation to get it all done. Join us for our regular Volunteer Trail Build days supported by the Devil's Peak Brewing Company. Dates as follows: - Saturday, 13 August, 2016 (next build) - Saturday, 27 August, 2016 - Saturday, 03 September, 2016 - Saturday, 17 September, 2016 Registration for each build day opens at the start of each week leading up to that event. The notice and registration link is shared on TokaiMTB twitter, TokaiMTB Facebook and here on Bike Hub under the TokaiMTB hosted forum. Thanks for the tweet Craig Rhodes-Harrison, VIVA STOKE! 14. Hi all, I'm doing some work with Isuzu over the next two months, part of which is creating hyperlapse videos and reviews of MTB routes so that you can check out the route online before making a mission. Here are the routes we've covered before so that you can get an idea of what I'm talking about: http://www.isuzu.co.za/experience-mountain-bike-trails Because I have limited time I need to be picky about the routes we choose to do so I'm asking all you to help me out. What are the best routes/trails in the Western Cape (we're currently geographically limited)? What routes would you most like to see a video of? Any ideas/suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance, Albert
  15. Hi all, I am embarking on a personal website called MTB Events SA. There are so many MTB events across South Africa and they each have their own website. The reason why I started this website is because I want to have a centralised website/database where you can view all events across the country. I want to display event information in a neat and readable way instead of having race details all over the place. I also want to display accommodation in and around the event. I always struggle to find accommodation when travelling to far away races. I also want to display things to do in and around the venue for those that are going to sleep over and don't want to sit at the place where you stay and watch TV. I want to have detailed route information and profiles. User comments after the race which can be forwarded to the event organisers. Pics of the race, Youtube videos of the routes, directions to the race, weather etc etc. The site has been optimised to use the latest internet technologies, it won't work on Internet Explorer 8 or lower, only from 9 and above. It will work on other browsers like Google Chrome and Firefox. It is optimsed for mobile devices because most people are all day on their phones. I don't plan to make money off the site right now, for now it's just a personal project and website. There might be a similar site but like I said it's a personal project that I am doing in my spare time and for my own enjoyment. If you have any ideas it would be appreciated. What would you like to see about an event before entering? Do you guys think something like this will work? The site is very bare at the moment, I put on content as soon as when I have time. Go to www.mtbevents.co.za and click on events on the menu above. Select the race that I have loaded to see what I am trying to do. I have a Facebook page and Twitter account registered. If you want please follow on Facebook and Twitter. I will starting posting as soon as when I have some more content. I would appreciate your feedback. Thanks Brendan
