So Honda just announced they are pulling the plug end ‘21. Again.

That basically leaves RB to beg renault for engines again. But will they?

They have said it before...if they cant buy or get a competitive engine...they will quit f1. Thats 4 cars/2 teams.

This is bad imo. F1 in real trouble. Something needs to be done about this retarded engine formula that has been killing f1 since 2014.

And now we are left with a situation where just one more manufacturer decides they are bored with it (renault/alpine post 2022?) and f1 is royally screwed.

The WEC still has the lmp2 and gt classes when lmp1 goes limp ever so often. F1 does not have that luxury.

Dump the dumb hybrid that makes the cars so expensive and go to planet hugging V10;s,.

F1 needs to decide what it wants to be. Formula E has the exclusive rights to a FIA governed electric series...so it wont be that. It has also become clear over the past 5 years that hybrid tech will not be the future of personal transport going forward with all the major manufacturers going throwing all their energy into electric. So f1’s uber expensive and complicated engine formula has absolutely no road relevance going forward either.

They should go back to N/A v8s or v10s and let it become a prototype exhibition type series to showcase the best of what internal combustion engines had to offer....the emotion, sound, experience. There are better series to showcase road relevant tech going forward.

Like horses are still being raced...

Watch that video of Mick Schumacher driving the f2004 right before the mugello gp started...but when he sets off...look at the pit lane instead. Watch how various teams mechanics rush to the pitwall when they hear that thing pulling away. They stay there taking cellphone videos hanging from the pitwall lol. Mclaren guys, racing point guys, red bull guys...all of them. They see and hear current f1 cars everyday....and if a 16 year old f1 car can evoke that much of a response from those guys.....it says it all imo

Agreed, those screaming V10's pull more emotion and interest than those scaletrix motors. This harvesting nonsense and regenerative braking and a heavy battery and instant torgue is boring.

The new renault motors do not even go near the limit of 12500 rpm anymore as its not the most efficient map. F1 is needs to take a hard look at what happened to LMP1, too complicated nobody cares.

F1 is about the aero gains, let the motor be easier for Ford, BMW, Cosworth, Honda to get into and perfect. There are some impressive numbers coming from road V12's now, reving out over 12000 RPM which will pass the current F1 motors.

T50 Stats:

The resulting 3.9-liter, naturally aspirated V12 delivers a peak of 654 horsepower at 11,500 rpm. Maximum torque is 467 Nm (344 lb-ft) at 9,000 rpm, but true to the flexibility mandate, it makes at least 332 Nm (245 lb-ft) of twisting force from as low as 2,500 rpm. You won't have to rev it like a goon to get away at the lights.

That is for a road going motor now that meets all the eco friendliness things.
