the problem wasnt with the 29" wheels, I really think they should stop arsing around with 1x10 set ups, even if had had the issue with the top 3 gears, he could of still climbed with the smaller of the 2 chain rings, he would thave then possibly not been as fatigued come the last lap which might have caused the lapse in concentration resulting in his crash???.......the guys on the podium all had 2 chain rings up front......

and for the record I ended up selling both my 29er and my MRP chain guide ages ago......stick with what works, I like how hermida wben went back to his 26er after the epic.....and I'm sure Merida would also want to push sales of their new 29er bikes......

Shouldn't this topic be:

"What brakes does burry Stander use?"

and then we debate for two weeks about aluminium rotors, front wheel grip and cosmic fallout

Yup, my thoughts exactly, gear choices were a bigger handicap than wheel size.

Nothing wrong with a failure analysis that we can all learn from? In this case: redundancy pays off!

That's what Burry said before he went over the handle bars because he couldn't see the 'klip' with those 29er wheels.

janneman, you're funny!

Briliant!

BTW, is Burry going to travel the whole circuit of the World Champs? Anyone knows?

So its not the 29er wheels, but the 1x10 gruppo that cost him?

(ps. If he plannes to ride all the climbs on that route in the big blade, he must have been feeling in ok shape ;) )

Quick!!! Everybody go and buy 26" tubbie wheels - Schurter won on them...

So 26" tubbies in first, 26 tubeless in second and 29 tubeless in third... To me it suggests the difference between the 3 is minimal.

Schurter's line down the rock garden was super fast - Absalon and Kulhavy not so much. Made more difference than the wheels did I reckon..

Burry's crash - holy jeebers!!!

I'm sure he will ride the whole World Cup circuit, that's what he won in 2009. The World Champs are one race only, do or die...

It actually sounds like it was an error in judgement, choosing the wrong line through some rockery, that cost him.

Looked like a little too much front brake to me?? Might a 26er have carried on rolling as it requires less momentum to make a revolution (as in rotation, not rebellion or transformation)?

I'm with flymango on the brake thing.. wrong brake i'd hazard..
