Saw this last night... EPIC! And it's the same DVD, so cost on that side won't be exhorbitant like SSD is at the moment. It's just the read / write capability that will come at a (significant?) cost!

The ironic thing is that Apple has rolled out their new gen Macbook Pros and iMacs which have no OPTICAL drives..

In my eyes it is not such a bad thing, I can't remember the last time I actually used mine. But that's just me.

Plus, it allows for a smaller design as I'm sure it is a somewhat bulky device.

It is damn frustrating. All the programs I have on disc I need to first put into my pc, rip it to a flash and then install it to the mac!!

Or just get a proper product that doesn't force you to go a specific way? *baah* goes the sheeple...

ROFL. So true.

Having said that, I know the product, though "overpriced" (relative term, some people would rather pay for an Alienware laptop, which is FAR more pricy than a mac) is a magnificent piece of design. Still, if something goes pop, you can't just walk up to Compooters r us and buy a new GPU - It's totally bespoke.

Having said that, I'd still rather trump up for my own custom built jobbie in a custom case. Far more control over bits n bobs, even though it might actually be compromised from a speed point of view (transfer & data speed, not CPU clock speed)

But in terms of the Apple-philes, of which there are many, this is a magnificent device which I am sure will be gobbled up MUCH faster than teh current iteration
