What we used to do (and still do from time to time) is to take 6 to 8 match heads and fold them in a tiny piece of the striker surface from the match box then wrap the whole thing very tightly in some masking tape.

Place said explosive device on a hard surface and whack it with a hammer and BOOM!!!

People come running looking for where the gunshot came from!!!!

Yeah, we used to that as well. Also used a nut and bolt gizmo and filled it with the match head or paper cap gun ammo and then threw it like a grenade

We Mc'Gyver'ed a "gun" from a car valve cut from a tube, in which we placed the match heads, a nail to use as a striker or firing pin, and a piece of "blou draad" to fashion the handle.

Way cheaper than the starter gun blanks we occasionaly got our grubby hands on, placed on a rock and smacked with a hammer. (used .22 "doppies" worked too, but you did occasionaly get a piece of copper in your shin. :whistling:)

Makes me think of the time in school that a buddy and I found a 'mostly' in tact old grenade, being teenage boys, curiosity obviously won out and we threw it, luckily nobody got hurt...

It's amazing any of us are here to tell these stories...
