Cafe arcade games, Advernure Island and 1942

I remember using all my dad's new R2 coins to play cafe arcade games when my old 20c stash ran out... thought I was being clever.... I got two hidings.

1 for taking my dads cash and a second much much harder one for being a moron and NOT changing 1 x R2 for 10 x 20c...

When I was first introduced to the corner cafe arcade games, they were 10cents a game. However not too long after that they went to 20cents

Pinball

The cafe around the corner had 3 machines, which took the old nickel 5 c coins. One day mate by accident found out that one of the machines mistook  (the then newer tiny) 1/2 cent coins for a 5 c...

The next Saturday we held a tournament in the cafe...

Monday when my mom sent me for bread, I had to ride to another cafe about 2 km away, as the cafe-owner chased me out with a sjambok when I walked in...

Reminds of when we figured that the coin operated pool tables at some resort we visited as a kid accepted flattened bottle caps, which were about the size of the coins (think it was an old R1 coin) that it took.

Went away to ballito with a few mates when still at school. They had a squash court at the hotel. We decided to play fairly late the one night. Put in our R5 for lights and nothing happened. So we went to reception to complain. They called the caretaker. Now this was like 21h00 so he probably got woken up. The poor oke pulls in and opens up the machine. He fixes what ever was wrong and then proceeded to start loading all the coins that were in the machine. For some reason he though we had loaded all the coins. He still commented why we wanted to play for so long. The following day the lights were still on.

The things people hoard...

A user at work comes to me just now and says, "Can you use these"

I was like, "No, they're about a thousand years old, but we'll take them for nostalgia"

I have one stiffy disk left from back in the day. I'm thinking of maybe putting it in a frame and hanging it on a wall.

I had Adventure Island and 1942 on my Famicom back in the day, good times those.
