OK, so not the best photo's by ANY stretch of the imagination.

But my first attempt at deep sky photo's without using a sky tracker.

The first image is  Mimosa (of the southern cross) showing the Jewel Box cluster.

The second is a zoom, and you can clearly see how out of focus everything is.

These are stacked images, of 1.3s making  4 minute exposure. I used a 7dmk2 on a 200mm f2.8 lens.

The 3rd image is of Wezen (star bottom left surrounded by an arc of stars) (part of Canis star cluster and on the right you can see the Canis open star cluster (you need to zoom in and see the specs of stars). A 3 minute exposure and out of focus.

Great thing to do Slowbee ! If you cannot bring the wilderness and the mountains to you, then go all out and bring the STARS to you!  (and to us) Philosophically, it rings Big Ben for me!

When they catch you off guard and all the settings are wrong and you cannot get your fingers to move fast enough.

These guys flew over the house. I heard the baby calling and just ran outsider with the camera. Plenty of post noise reduction and smoothing and editing and painting out tree branches. And kicking myself for not checking the settings first! A few seconds on settings would have got much better shots. But lessons learnt.

Hopefully they will come by tomorrow at the same time and I will be ready. Ok, maybe not ready.

A quick question for you photo dudes.

In looking at mobile offices, I want to switch to a laptop. Small in size if possible (13 or 14 inch).

But what speed (size) would you  need to be able to process photos useing a desktop version of photoshop and lightroom and deep skystacker and video editing and run Microsoft office.

i7 or i9 ? 8g ram ?

Yes yes, I know you are all going to ask budget, but I dont know where to start.

Start by looking at the "screen".  With entry level laptops the colour shifts as you look at the screen from different angles .... you can never show anybody photos on it, as only that one person look perfectly perpendicular will get the correct colour spread ...

Mac had the monopoly on proper screens.

The very top-end laptops comes with screens that dont colour-shift at different angles.  By which time you already have the processing power ....

My Dell Insperon is an i7 2,4Ghz computer, with a solid state drive for faster processing.

I have done batch processing of up to a 1 000 photos after a day's shoot at a sports event, using Lightroom.  No issues

I have also done digital RAW stitching of 20+ photos, for 20m wide prints, in Photoshop.  Understandably, it takes a while to complete the stitching to end with a 1,7 Gig photo      But OOOOOOooooo so nice to stand next to that print and there is NO pixelation, not even up close.

Sadly this machine appears to be a bit light for video editing .... just way too much buffering, taking the joy out of the process.  Using Pinacle Studio 21 .... would love some input on software that may be able to work better on my laptop ....

i9 is completely overkill. i7 is great, paired with at least 8g of ram should be fine. 16gb would be better future proofing. Especially if you want to export photos with a few filters and brushes and adjustments applied. Graphics are important, but unless you are doing video editing not really the end of the world.

You welcome to send me a PM with a budget and we can have a chat further if you want

i7 system with 16GB of RAM. If you are starting to look at Premier Pro chuck in a decent display card that can help with the load. Do not get 1050 though. Processing a 4K video on my notebook can take a very long time. Doing it on 1080p is a little better, but still takes a long time to encode.

Intel has been pushing a lot of AI talk in the 10th Generation CPU SKU.

They claim that it helps a lot with processing and workload. I have not tested a 10th Gen CPU yet. And will not be able to do so soon. I joined Team Red (AMD) but switched to a desktop for Post. Going to give Davinci a go as well as Adobe is not worth the money anymore. And will look for my Photoshop CS6 key to save a little bit (okay a lot)

With the current market to get a notebook is very hard work.

They can range from R15000 to R45000 for a over the top system.

I suggest you go into ORMS and speak to one of their staff. They are all pro's

You need to do a little leg work

In fact go in to their print lab next door and speak to them as well. They know their stuff.I have processed and printed artwork canvas size on canvas and they were extremely helpful on the processing side.
