Shouting out that you hate race organisers is very mature indeed.

Face up to it, life is about choices..... you can't have your cake and eat it.

Yeah it's a silly phrase which i used on purpose.....

It is actually "you can't eat your cake and have it". Meaning that if you eat the cake it is finish and you are left with no cake.

Life is a bitch.

When you're young you have enough time to train and race but no car/money to race.

When you're building your career mid life you have the money but lack the time.

When you're retired you have the time and money but not the ability (to compete at pro elite level anyway).

*** huh?

My other favourite is "walk a mile in a man's shoes" - it's brilliant - you end up a mile away from him plus you have his shoes.

Make sure you keep your own shoes with you at all times.

I for one was quite happy to see the Magalies Monster this year was the same price as last year, I thought R185 (that was with the pointless day licence) was not bad value for 70km of suffering, a well marked route, support and some refreshments on route. AND I got a pair of socks!!!

I just do races that are near to home, less money and time wasted on travelling.

I might be changeing the topic a bit...or just mentioning the other side of the coin....

...it being the 'rich' MTBer - the one with the fancy bike, full kit (latest) and and and.. (NO I AM NOT ONE OF THOSE)...they who don't even think twice about entry fees and are well attended at every 'big' race (like the Knysna)

These guys irritate me for one reason - they sit 2 next to eachother on a narrow path (not single track obviously) and chatting away...and do not move over when they see a girl with no 'sponsored' clothing on!!

For this reason I will vote for discounted fees for students (like the OP said who has potential) even if I have to pay more to make up the loss. Seriously I also think there must be a start group at the back for people who come for the 'joy ride' and not to 'race' - as I thought that was what it was called...anyhow.

Just my 5c worth - now someone can flip the coin back..

Ok Mamparra I'll rephrase it just for you.

You (fruitloop who started the thread) cannot have the best of both worlds.

Dooooood - who would want another world? The other 7 (Pluto isn't a planet!) worlds in out solar system are either toxic, boiling hot, frighteningly cold or just plain nasty.

You really need to brush up on your expressions :D

Hey Fruity,

Here is an Idea.... Make your part-time Job a Race Organizer.

That way you can

1. Adjust the Race Entry to something YOU like

2. Give Discounts to your Student Buddies

3. See how much effort really goes into a race (Course, Logistics, Medics, timing, Land Access Permissions, Insurance, Road Closure, etc)

4. Earn Extra Money so you can enter other people's Races

Speaking to me like im a kid again. "Mom's going to be cross."

We can have a mtb race if u keen? haha

Shouldn't you be getting back to "hectic" schedule you have hey?

Come to think of it, you could have worked a shift in bar, made enough money for an entry into the nissan trailseeker race in the time you were here...
